    Finally home…

    December 17, 2023 in Germany ⋅ 🌙 3 °C

Leingarten… the best place I could remember for a whole lot of years. And now, being back almost 20 years later, it couldn’t have been better. Everything I remember was true, beautiful place, amazing people, was greeted by the most fun and welcoming family ever.
After a really nice meal, we had a couple of beers, talk about so much lost time, and after a couple of hours, met really cool and old friends, much has changed but at the same time, we are the same kids we were just in bigger bodies :) it was a very welcomed surprise.
Tomorrow we are spending some more time together and we will see how much more we can see of this truely amazing small town filled with live, joy, nature and beuty.

  • Day 6

Uni class, Leingarten tour and badminton

    December 18, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 7 °C

Today we woke up early, Nunzio picked us up at 9 am and we had the great opportunity to sit down and listen to a lesson of Big Data Analysis at his university. It was great and the professor was very kind, he even changed to english at some point so it would be easier for us to understand!
Afterwards we went for a pizza at the Italian food restaurant where Jason Zwei works, not only he sneaked in a little extra meat into our pizzas but he was kind enough to convince his boss to give us 50% off! :) He’s really a great guy.
After stuffing ourselves with pizzas, Nunzio had to go work, so he left us at the Leingarten West station and the exploring began. We visited all the places I remembered, and walked through every road. From the kindergarten on the top of the hill, to the primary school I attended, went for a walk in the middle of no where to the 2 small lakes behind the school, found a little Waldtelefon, saw people jogging with no sun at -1 degrees, and all in all I was very pleased to see that really nothing changed, the same bridge, the same color houses, the same plants, the same everything and everywhere.
Once we were done and Nunzio too, he picked us up to take us play badminton with his friends, gab a few bears and have some really authentic german food! It was great, I tried the Maultaschen, amd one of Nunzio's friends was not only speaking spanish and was very excited to be able to practice, but also very curious and kind to us. He even insisted I try every part of his dish so I could try all the different german flavours! Eventually we had to say goodbye, and after a very cozy ride back in Nunzio's van to our Airbnb, we arrived completely destroyed and tired. Took a shower and awaiting for tomorrow's adventure.

    To Heilderberg

    December 19, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 4 °C

Today we woke up late, decided we should take a little time off. So we went and had a Kebab 1pm in Heilbronn and walk around a little bit, took some nice pictures and even got to remember a couple of places.
Somewhere around 3-4 pm we took a train to Heilderberg, sadly we didn’t get there in time to see the castle, so we just walked around the town and looked at a couple more Christmas markets.
Finally we made our way back and tomorrow a new destination!

    Goodbyes and new destination

    December 20, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

Yesterday we woke up a little early since we had to check out from the Airbnb. We went to Heilbronn, had something for breakfast at the Italian place Jason works at.
Afterwards, we met Jason in Leingarten to hang out a little bit and say goodbye. We had a lot of fun and we also shared some memories while walking through Leingarten.
A couple of hours later, we took a final picture and finally said goodbye.
Then we went to a bar to wait for Nunzio, we eventually picked us up and we went for a couple of more drinks, we had a very interesting a long conversation about pretty much everything, I found his way of thinking specially interesting. And we had a great night. From there, he took us to his house one last time, we took a final picture and said goodbye, hopefully for less than 20 years.
Finally Nunzio went above and beyond, taking us to Stuttgart himself. And leaving us right on the door of out new Airbnb.

    Adventure to Hohenzollern castle

    December 21, 2023 in Germany ⋅ 🌬 7 °C

Yesterday was a very chaotic day. We woke up early to catch the train to Hechingen. Suddenly the train decided that it would just change route half way through and ended up in a very very very small town in the middle of nowhere. We waited for the next train to take us back on track. Eventually we got to Hechingen, sadly we had to spend extra money on new trains and even buy our tickets again to the castle.
Once in Hechingen, we met a very fun and helpful Argentinian that told us the quickest route to the castle. From there we walked up a hill for like 40 minutes and finally got to our destination.
Even though the trip there was crazy and at times tedious, walking up the hill to the castle through the forest was an experience that I have never had before and it was amazing and fun.
The castle itself is smaller than it looks, but it’s incredibly beautiful inside.
After a very very expensive but good dinner, we walked down the hill in pitch blackness but it added to the adventure.
After 4 hours, finally got home to rest for the next adventure the next day!

    Neuschwanstein castle!

    December 22, 2023 in France ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

This castle was amazing. After a very long train with it’s up and downs, we had to go up a hill again, but this one was huge, took us an hour to get up, but it is completely worth it, the views are spectacular and once up close you can really see how big the castle actually is.
Once inside we were not allowed any photos, that kinda sucked, but it’s fine, I really felt like I was paying attention and really appreciated every single carving and detail on the castle. My favorite castle for sure. Loved that it has the whole Sigurd saga depicted on the walls.
Lastly we ate down in the town below the castle, and finally we made our 6 hour trip back to the Airbnb.

    Trip to Basel

    December 23, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Finally the time has come for us to move on. We woke up and got everything ready to leave. We took our things and went on a walk to Stuttgart city center while we waiting for our train to arrive.
Sadly I couldn’t see anything really impressive in Stuttgart. Of course a very pretty European city, but nothing really noteworthy. I am sure there are museums and all that, sadly we didn’t have time to visit more in-depth.
Then we just travelled all the way to Basel, nothing to important, it was more of a slow relaxed day.

    Pfefferheim ruins

    December 24, 2023 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

The 24th we woke up early to visit 2 ruins in adjacent towns to Basel. It was fun and adventurous. Again we had to walk up hills but at the end the views and the adventure was worth it!
Very pretty places and even prettier views.
Afterwards we went to a Christmas party at a bar, was actually kinda boring so we headed back home and got some sleep for next day’s adventure.

    December 25, 2023 in Switzerland ⋅ 🌙 9 °C

Yesterday was another slower and relaxed day, we woke up really late and went to visit some roman ruins. They looked great, they were in good shape and we were able to snatch a couple of pictures.
Afterwards we headed back home, made some dinner and started to get everything ready for today’s trip to our next destination!
