    Day 47: Ride to paradise

    September 5, 2016 in Australia

The Tour is called Ride to Paradise and it feels like Paradise when you are waking up next to the beach on the former residence of a billionair. This place has it all, bubble bath, swimming pool, tennis court, biljard table, surf boards, kajaks and more stuff to play with. We came here with this red speed boat a "wild cat". An awesome boat that also cost a few million and goes quite fast. The advantage is that the ride is not that long, the disadvantage is when it splashes in is that the wind makes it really cold but I liked that actually, feels like home in Zandvoort :). We went with a little hangover around 1400 to the Billionairs Paradise and explored the what we tought was an Island. But in fact it looked remote but wasn't. I sat in the hot bubble bath talking with 2 couples from New Castle. It's fun how many different people you meet but with so many common interests. After that I used a kajak to explore and see the sun set from the sea. Something I loved to combine and were else than in Paradise ;-). I missed the shower at our hut and ended up showering in the middle of the forrest, a little lost on my way back but I made it without stepping on some dangerous animal ;-).Diner was fabulous and dessert even better. Long time ago that I ate this good since all the hostel, pub, bar and club food. After diner we had another surprise, this awesome guy Billy was out hunting for a nice snake or spider to show it to us. He came back within 45minutes with this snake on the end of a broom. He said that this snake didn't like to be picked up that much and was acting angry. He said that it was probably a python on steroids because it was so big. The moment that he stepped on the porch to show us the snake from closeby. Henry ( the other guide that actually is responsible for our well being) yelled from inside the mansion: "get that the hell away from here". The tone and the fact that he is Australian ment that he was pritty serious. Australians are used to dangerous animals and not scared easily. Billy was really enthusiastic at first but when he heard Henry he kept his eyes on the snake without blinking. It appeared to be a Taipan, the fourth most deadly snake of the world or the Inland Taipan the deadliest in Australia. Not a good snake to play with so he run off and set it loose on the beach (sadly near our huts but ok doesn't matter ;-) ). We double checked where we placed our feet anyway :p. Good night dangerous but fun world ;-).Read more

    Airlie Beach

    February 18 in Australia

    Luxury Villa

    May 20, 2017 in Australia

😀Read more

    Whitsunday Islands - Tag 3

    October 13, 2017 in Australia

Read more

    Airlie Beach

    September 18, 2017 in Australia

We left Bowen around 10am and went to see the Big Mango on the way. It was only an hour drive to get to Airlie Beach.

The caravan park has the most amazing water park! The girls ran from the van as soon as they were able to get changed and we didn't see them till Joe went to find them for lunch. We took the opportunity to get washing done and gave the van a good clean. After lunch the girls waited the bare minimum amount of time possible before heading back to the pools and Joe and I enjoyed some much deserved quiet time just vegging out at the van which was great and managed to feed some of the locals. Bringing a little quality bird seed is so much better than giving them bread and biscuits. Joe and I also worked out the last week of our trip and had a look at what there is to do in the area.

It's 5.30pm and the breeze is just starting to get a bit cool. We're doing BBQ for dinner and planning a chilled out evening.

    Airlie Beach

    September 19, 2017 in Australia

It's been a very quiet day today.

We woke up and headed to the pool for the pancake breakfast. As we finished eating it started to rain and that was pretty much the way it was all day. Of course it didn't stop the girls from going to the pool however we decided to put off our look around Airlie till tomorrow and just enjoyed a quiet day at the van. Joe managed to wash the car and we did the caravan park's word jumble when we made the girls take a break from the pool for lunch.Read more

    Looking around Airlie Beach

    September 20, 2017 in Australia

We woke up to a beautifully sunny morning. The girls went to the petting zoo feeding at 10am and were able to bottle feed a lamb and calf. They weren't as interested in the ducks and chickens. Then we went to have a look around.

We drove into Airlie and parked near the Lagoon and walked along the Bicentennial walk along the beach with a view of the stunning Whitsunday blue water and the many yachts mored off shore and then through the Main Street. We had a look in a souvenir shop and bought some dresses and pins then stopped for lunch at the Sidewalk Cafe which was really good!

We went back down to the Lagoon and sat in a little patch of shade we found while the girls went for a swim. We later found out that the Lagoon was only reopened three weeks ago after the damage from cyclone Debbie forced its closure. You can still see from the state of the trees and the amount of construction fencing throughout the area. I can only imagine what it looked like six months ago.

We dropped into Best and Less to grab a new sun shirt and swimmers for Lara so obviously that meant they both needed t'shirts, shorts and a dress as well. We ducked into Woolworths to grab a couple of things and headed back to the van.

The girls headed to the pool one last time and Joe and I sat and chilled out for a little while, trying not to think too much about packing up for the driving day tomorrow. We had quick and easy hotdogs for dinner before the kids headed to the free outdoor movie and we started packing up. Looking forward to an early night!
