We had been told that, by the time we turned up at the campsite, the staff may have left as they were packing up early. After a lovely drive from Noosa to Coolum Bay we arrived and the office was open, but they were just leaving. The campsite was pretty empty and we’d been given pitch 108a. Not sure where there would be the need for “a”, but we set off to find it.

Pitch 108a is small, very small. It’s the only pitch we have seen that makes vehicles park parallel rather than perpendicular to the road. When parked there wasn’t room to open the awning. We went back to the office and caught a member of staff just as they were getting into their car. I was expecting to be told to use another pitch if we were unhappy with where we were, but no, that was our pitch and she wasn’t going to go back into the office and change it, she drove off.

We don’t usually get the awning out so the pitch wasn’t a problem, more the principle of having so many full sized pitches and giving us a substandard pitch. We went for a walk onto the beach ... very long beach.

It was our last night so we went out for dinner.

The next morning we went for a longer walk along the beach. There were lots of people swimming and surfing. Grandparents had their grandchildren who were loving the sea. The lifeguards were just putting up the flags. It was lovely to walk paddling along in the sea, it was 07:58 and 34C, it was going to get hot today.Read more

Schon wieder ein Riesenrad aufgebaut

After one month it was time to pull down the ferris wheel in Tweed Heads and move it around 200km north to Coolum Beach at the Sunshine Coast. Pull down worked out very well and after two days it was packed away. After a day travelling up the coast the bad weather with storm and a lot of rain hit us. We had to pause for a day, lost two trucks and one crane in the mud but we made it in time to reopen the wheel one week after we closed in Tweed Heads. Good news: the wheel will now stay here until the 1st November.

Nach einem Monat war die Zeit von unserem zweiten Riesenrad in Tweed Heads an der Gold Coast schon wieder vorbei. Für mich ging es also wieder ins kalte Queensland. Innerhalb von einer Woche mussten wir das Riesenrad abbauen, 200km gen Norden zur Sunshine Coast transportieren und wieder aufbauen. Der Abbau ging super schnell sodass wir schon nach knapp zwei Tagen alles in die LKWs verladen hatten. Die Probleme kamen dann allerdings in Coolum Beach als wir plötzlich mitten in einem Unwetter waren. Durch den vielen Regen sind zunächst unsere zwei LKWs und am nächsten Tag auch der Kran im Matsch stecken geblieben. Die Folgen waren eine Zwangspause von 1,5 Tagen bis das Unwetter vorbei war und der Kran befreit war. Trotz der Probleme ging es danach zügig weiter sodass wir den Zeitplan noch einhalten konnten und lediglich ein paar Stunden zu spät am Montag Nachmittag eröffnen konnten. Hier bleibt das Riesenrad jetzt erstmal bis zum 1. November stehen, weshalb es für schnell wieder zurück nach Hause ins warme Darwin ging.Read more

Welcome to the Sunny Coast! Nach einer wundervollen Woche an der Gold Coast geht es für uns jetzt wieder nördlich.
An der Sunshine Coast machten wir uns direkt am Strand an einem der öffentlichen Barbecues erstmal ein leckeres Mittagessen. Wir waren am Mooloolaba Beach, Noosa Heads, und surften am Coolum Beach. Unsere Surf-skills werden immer besser 🤙🏽.
Auf Pauls Empfehlung mussten wir natürlich noch die Big Pineapple anschauen. 😂Read more

We arrived at 8am - lovely warm day. Our plan was to conquer DFO today, and it’s safe to say, this was achieved. After spending all our money, we headed to Mooloolaba to catch up with Lynne, Miles and Nannie. Nathan and Carolyn popped in as well - she still has the moon boot on. Den heutigen Tag verbrachten wir zuerst mit Sport und Schule. Anschliessend haben wir ein Surfboard gemietet und uns in die Wellen gestürzt. Es war zwar wie immer ein Krampf, aber hat schon ganz gut geklappt. Patrik gab wie immer alles. Was nun deutlich zu sehen ist. Er kann kaum mehr laufen weil er sich den Zehen verstaucht hat. Typisch🙈😂.
Dafür muss ich neidlos anerkennen, dass er beim heutigen 10km Lauf besser war als ich💪🏻👍(da war der Zehen auch noch ok)!

Der Husten von Patrik hat auch seine Vorteile... er liefert uns jeden Morgen die schönsten Fotos von Sonnenaufgängen.
Gegen Mittag ging es zum Wandern in den Nationalpark. Was wir da sehen konnten, ist unmöglich in Worte zu fassen. Einen Koalalabären in live zu sehen löst pures Glücksgefühl aus. Wir konnten unser Glück kaum fassen. Als wir dieses Geschöpf ansahen kamen einem fast die Tränen.Read more

Einen Start in den Tag mit Kaffe und Sonne. Schöner kann man nicht in den Tag starten. Wobei bereits schon um 6 Uhr morgens meine Nerven getestet wurden. Patrik hat seit fast einer Woche einen nervigen Husten. D.h., dass wir alle betroffenen sind🤨. Wer mich kennt, weiss wie schnell ich genervt sein kann, wenn jemand meinen Schlaf durch husten raubt😡. Aber keine Angst... unsere Beziehung wird auch diese Krise überstehen 😂😂.
Wir haben den Tag in Noosa am Strand verbracht und uns die Villen in der nobel Gegend bewundert.Read more

Die Fahrt führte uns wieder zurück an die Küste, wo uns die pure 🌞 und Temperaturen vom 30C morgens um 10am empfangen haben. So fuhren wir an der Küste " Sunshine Coast" hoch.
Als wir den Strand sahen, musste ich rechts abbiegen😜😂

New years day

We kicked of 2017 on a action packed pace. We continued our tradition to run on Jan 1st. We explored ran on the walkway from Alexandra Head to Maroochydore, a part of where the Gold Coast Marathon is hosted. After a healthy brekkie we headed to the beach. Andy gave Roedolf some surf lessons. I chilled with the extended Westwoods, I read my book and watched all the holiday makers go by.

Me and Roedolf did a mini roadtrip on the coastal road no 6, all the way up the Sunshine coast to Noosa Heads, a posh holiday town which reminded me off Knysna. We stopped at all the beaches and viewpoints along the way. I like the trees growing on the rocks at Coolum.

Ended the afternoon with a homemade gelato in Noosa heads.
