      Mildura

      February 6 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

      Happy New Year 2024

      December 31, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

      III. AUS - OA/VIC + SA 4; Mildura - GOR

      December 27, 2016 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

      Di, 27.12. Mildura - Renmark/Monash

Do, 29.12. Kingston SE - Beachport - Millicent

      Sa, 31.12. Mount Gambier

So, 01.01. Mount Gambier - Tyrendarra

Mo, 02.01. Tyrendarra - Port Fairy - Princetown
(Great Ocean Road 1 = GOR)
Wir sahen u.a. Bay of Island Coastal Park, Bay of Martyr/Peterborough, Port Campbell und natürlich die 12 Apostles im Port Campbell NP - mega cool, aber seht selbst an den Bildern ;)

    • Day 12

      Adelaide - Mildura

      July 25, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

We woke up with a tinge of sadness the last morning at Darryl's as we have to make our way on the long journey home. Brett made the bold decision to sample some of Darryl's morning cook-up, the microwaved rolled oats with honey and dried cranberries. It was a thumbs up from Brett.

Darryl led us out of town, and we headed for the hills, Adelaide Hills, that is, in particular, Aldgate, where his mother and father reside in a care facility. Brett was pretty excited because this couple played a fairly prominent role in his formative years. We were very happy to see both in good health. Brett calculated that the last time he saw Mr & Mrs Kennedy was over 45 yrs ago. The visit was very lovely, but too short, they were off to lunch.

We decided to do the same, so we adjourned to the Stirling Hotel for our farewell luncheon. From here, we parted ways with Darryl, who headed home, whilst we headed kind of north east towards and then through Murray Bridge.

From here, we took the road towards Loxton, the Riverland district of SA. Unfortunately, we were unaware that this is one long boring road with just as many travellers' facilities as the Birdsville Track. There were a number of 'towns' listed on our map, but they turned out to be mere former rail siding ghost towns. Luckily, we still had our emergency spare fuel, so after a roadside pit stop/tea break, we were able to get to Loxton to fill the tank.

Things got more interesting after that as we headed to Berri, then a quick diversion to Glossop where, many years ago, Jen visited her good friend, Jenny, who used to reside there.

Back through Berri, we passed the very sad Big Orange. A derelict tourist attraction. Then it was through Renmark, our target Mildura still well over 100km away. We snuggled behind a very mobile semi-trailer, using it as a potential wildlife buffer in the twilight to dark hours before making it to Mildura, on the Murray.

We're staying at the Riverside Motel, which is nowhere near the river, ironically, but quite nice nonetheless.

      Home Sweet Home

      April 29, 2018 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

Well we have arrived back on home territory again and it’s good to be home. Going through the airport in Croatia was a breeze compared to Russia. We shot through check in, security, customs etc in about half an hour max and had plenty of time to sit down to breakfast. Our cases were all a bit fatter with the extra souvenirs, cheese etc we had brought back with us.

Heidi was still excited to be going on another plane! Eli managed to score an empty row which he and Heidi sat in as it was the front row so they had more room. I enjoyed the luxury of being able to sit and read or sleep without having to entertain a toddler! This flight to Qatar was 5 1/2 hours or thereabouts so not too bad.

In Qatar we had some lunch and then took Heidi to the playground to wear off some of her abounding energy! She spent the next hour and a half playing there while we took turns to go walking.

The next flight was the big one - 12 hours or so. We again managed to get a row for me and Heidi and Eli had a spare row this time so he could sleep. I had a couple of people try and sit in my row (it wasn’t their assigned seat) and had to politely tell them we had requested a spare row (they had actually changed our seat tickets to accommodate).

Heidi wet herself again 🤦‍♀️ she had done it on the last flight when sitting with Eli and we had changed her into the only spare clothes I had packed. We’ve had no accidents the entire holiday until now! She was watching something both times and we think she wasn’t concentrating or something. So I had to hope her jeans would dry by the end of the flight - ugh!

We had a few things to declare when we arrived in Adelaide - cheese, wooden articles, honey. We lost the honey cos it was creamed (it needs to be runny so they can see any debris apparently) and one of the cheeses we had opened while we were away and wrapped in alfoil and we lost that too. Then as we had been walking around fresh water lakes and wilderness areas they washed the shoes we had been wearing. They were all so nice and friendly though - it was a nice change!

Grandpa, Grandma and Mum came to pick us up at the airport. We gave Heidi a quick bath back at their place and then hit the road back to Mildura. Heidi was excited at the prospect of seeing kangaroos again as she would ask when we were away - ‘where are the roos?’ 😂

It was a great holiday and we made lots of fun memories!

      Murray River in Mildura

      December 29, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Crossed into Victoria yesterday afternoon. Congrats to NSW & Victoria as the border was open to all. No checking vax status, no discrimination. As it should be.

The Murray River was buzzing with riverboats and huge double decker houseboats. Nice afternoon stroll after quality little italian place pizza.Read more

Before we know it we're on the Victorian border, settled in the Mildura Big 4 holiday park with a great view of the river. It's Easter weekend so the park is packed with families.
During our short stay here, we enjoy a picnic along the riverside walk and Jacob loved seeing the paddle-steamer in action.Read more
