      Watsons Bay & Manly

      So meine Lieben jetzt gibt es mal wieder mehr von uns. 😘
      Gestern hatten wir echt noch richtig Glück mit dem Wetter und haben uns nochmals das berühmte „Opera House“ von nahem angeschaut. Es ist immer wieder ein unbeschreibliches und beeindruckendes Gefühl, wenn man vor diesem weltbekannten Gebäude steht.🙈
      Anschließend sind wir mit der Fähre zum “Watson’s Bay” gefahren. 🚢
      Bei der 30-minütigen Fahrt hatten wir eine unglaublich schöne Aussicht auf ganz Sydney und vorallem auf die Skyline. 🏙
      Dort waren wir dann in dem “Sydney Harbour Nationalpark” und sind an den Klippen entlang gelaufen. 🌊
      Gegen Abend haben wir uns mit dem besten Fish&Chips aus ganz Sydney belohnt, welches wirklich sehr gut war.🐟 🍟
      Außer Lisi, die blieb lieber ihren Chicken Nuggets treu. 🐔 😂
      So und um nicht immer mit schlechtem Gewissen Essen zu bestellen waren wir heute in einem unglaubliche leckerem Cafe in Manly.😍
      Dort gab es zum Frühstück dann Açaí Bowls mit verschiedenen Toppings. 🍓 🥝 🥜
      Wir wussten gar nicht, dass gesundes Essen soooo lecker sein kann. 😱😂
      Den restlichen Tag haben wir dann am Strand in Manly verbracht und haben uns dort mal wieder richtig verbrannt.😂🏖

      Sydney: Taronga Zoo

      Of course we prefer to see animals in the wild. Who doesn’t?

      But that is not always possible. We believe that zoos — well run and credentialed ones — have an important role to play in the animal world … and we don’t mind supporting those that participate in worthwhile conservation programs by visiting them on occasion.

      The website indicates that Taronga “… cares for over 5,000 animals from over 350 species, many of which are threatened.” It is committed to not just the conservation of wildlife in Australia, but around the world as well. As we wandered around, I noted several references in information panels to the zoo’s active involvement in breed and release programs. So, they do good work.

      On that note, here’s the story of today’s visit to Taronga Zoo, which officially opened in 1916. Taronga is an Aboriginal word that means "beautiful view". An exceptionally appropriate moniker as we enjoyed delightful views of the city from various points around the grounds as we visited the many different animal habitats.

      Located in the suburb of Mosman, a 12-minute ferry ride took us from Circular Quay to the zoo. The ferry wharf for Taronga is near the lower entrance. It’s possible to walk up through the grounds from there. But we did something better. Bus 238 — which transfers ferry passengers from the wharf to Balmoral — makes its first stop at the upper (main) zoo entrance. The bus was waiting at the wharf stop, so, we hopped on. Well worth the AUD $1/person fare … which, in USD, comes out to about $0.67/person.

      (By the way, we are loving the tap on/tap off system in place for public transportation … ApplePay/GooglePay work beautifully, so we have not had to invest in Opal Cards.)

      Once the zoo opened at 9:30a, we followed the meandering paths back down through the grounds … seeking shade wherever we could find it. What we thought would be a 2-hour visit lasted twice as long. Fun times in the company of not-so-wildlife. Despite the brutal sun — the high today was 90F — the animals were out and active … our thanks to all the critters for cooperating with our plans today.

      Returning to Sydney on the ferry, we searched out a place for a late lunch. We ended up at the Munich Pub in The Rocks where good German food and local beer served as a wrap up for our day.      Read more

      Another day another trip on the ferry as it's the best way to see the harbour and 20 minutes on a boat is about right for Joy 😂.

      This time we hopped across to Watson's Bay with lovely views of the bridge and Opera House on the way... again 🙄😀

      Natur, Kultur und Entspannung

      Am Dienstag gehen wir tagsüber in den Taronga Zoo von Sydney. Es ist eine weitläufge und sehr schön angelegte Parklandschaft über der Bucht mit Panoramablick auf die Skyline, die Oper und die Brücke. In der australischen Abteilung begegnen wir Tieren (Kängurus, Emus, Koalas, etc.), die wir schon in der Wildnis gesehen haben. Die Enge für die Tiere hier im Zoo macht uns daher sehr betroffen.
      In erster Linie wollten wir die giftigen und gefährlichen Tiere Australiens sehen, aber halt mit Sicherheitsglas bzw. Zaun dazwischen. Aber soweit solche Tiere - Giftschlangen Spinnen, Insekten,.. - im Zoo vorhanden sind, waren sie am Tag in ihren Gehegen und Terrarien gut versteckt.

      Am Abend erleben wir dann nach dem Feuerwerk den zweiten geplanten und schon lange gebuchten Höhepunkt unseres Aufenthaltes in Sydney. Wir besuchen die Vorstellung von Verdis La Traviata im Opernhaus und sitzen in der ersten Reihe direkt vor dem Orchestergraben und der Dirigentin. Wir sind so fast mitten drin im Schauspiel.
      Die Musik und die Darbietung faszinieren uns so sehr, dass wir für zweieinhalb Stunden die Welt vergessen.

      Am Mittwoch ist wieder Strandtag. Wir fahren mit dem Ferryboat 20 Minuten nach Manly. Am Strand mieten wir diesmal zwei Liegestühle und einen Sonnenschirm für umgerechnet 27€. Peanuts im Vergleich zu Badestränden am Mittelmeer in Italien und Frankreich und hier auch nicht im Sardinenmodus platziert.      Read more

      Dag 6: bagage! en de laatste dag Sydney

      Happy onderkin! Eindelijk hebben we onze bagage🥳 aangezien de Airline ons al vertelde dat het in Sydney was maar wij maar niks hoorde zijn wij zelf naar de luchthaven gegaan. Adam een super vriendelijke medewerker vertelde ons dat de kans groot was dat hij wist waar het was, even rondbellen en toen konden we opzoek. Een grote kamer vol met koffers en tassen. Gelukkig had ik een knalgele cover en lag Glenn zijn tas hier vlakbij dus was het allemaal snel geregeld. thanks Mate!👍😜

      Daarna ons laatste dagje nog even op het strand door gebracht. Camp Cove het mooiste strandje tot nu toe☀️ Morgen vliegen wij naar Nieuw Zeeland ✈️      Read more

      Watson bay

      Guten Abend meinerseits und guten Morgen nach Deutschland

      Der Plan war es heute eigentlich Kajak zu fahren am manly beach aber wie es häufig im Leben ist - es kommt anders, als erwartet
      Per Mail bekamen wir die Nachricht, dass es zu wenig Teilnehmer gibt und so wurde die Aktivität abgesagt. Es fing allen Übels noch an zu regnen und so war die Motivation bei mir erstmal im Keller🫠
      Zum Glück hab ich natürlich Larissa, die einen neuen Plan geschmiedet hat und so machten wir uns auf den Weg zum Watson bay. Die Aussicht und das Gefühl den Sonnenuntergang zu sehen war echt einzigartig. Die kleine Wanderung hat so viel Spaß gemacht - ich hab ganz vergessen wie schön es ist durch die Natur zu wandern.
      Aufjedenfall kann ich nur eins sagen - schaut euch die Bilder an dann versteht ihr mich.
      Die nächsten drei Tage wird noch gearbeitet und dann geht es für uns zurück ins Airbnb (der Tempel in dem wir vor einigen Wochen waren). Das wird unsere letzte Woche in Sydney sein und ich bin echt aufgeregt

      Day 40

      Sydney- Coastal walk

      Gestern sind wir den „Bondi to Coogee -Walk“ gelaufen,welcher direkt an der Küste verlief. 🌊 🏖 Um zum Bondi Beach zu gelangen sind wir das erste mal mit der Fähre zum Circular Quay, dem Stadtzentrum, gefahren. 🚢 Währenddessen hatte man eine perfekte Sicht auf das „Sydney Opera House“ und die „Harbour Bridge“.
      Das erste Highlight des Walks waren die „Iceberg Pools“ beim Bondi Beach, welche sehr beeindruckend aussehen. Am „Bronte Beach“ legten wir dann aber eine Pause ein und sind dann als Abkühlung im „Bronte Rockpool“ schwimmen gegangen. 🏊‍♀️ ☀️
      Gegen Abend ging es für uns in den Club „The Argyle“, um in den Geburtstag von Miri reinzufeiern. 🥳 🥂 Wie man sieht war die Stimmung mega gut und wir hatten viel Spaß. 😊

      Iconic Sydney

      We began our day climbing the Sydney Bridge! There are three ways to climb it - the free way (just going across the deck), the Pylon lookout for $20 (which is ascending 170 steps up the tower on the side of the bridge), or the full on climb over the arch (which costs $240!). As much as we wanted to climb the arch, we couldn’t bring ourselves to pay that much so went with the second option, up the pylon. It was a great view, and a great choice.

      Then we headed thru the city, meandered thru a street market and then boarded a ferry to see the Sydney Opera House from the water. A definite bucket list item for both of us.

      We took the ferry out to the infamous Sydney Bondi Beach. It’s a Sunday here so VERY crowded. The water was really cold so we just took a walk in the surf and opted out of swimming. Hopefully will be warmer up north.

      Jordans not been feeling well so she headed back to the hotel and I took a hike to the Hornby lighthouse. I got out to the mouth of the Sydney Harbor, sat on a cliff in the shade of the lighthouse, watched the beautiful ocean and contemplated life. Fun surprise is I was able to see many whales surfacing as I sat there. Really cool experience.

      Jordan and I went out again after dark, boarded another ferry and saw the harbor all lit up. It was really pretty.

      Außerhalb Sydneys befindet sich ein kleiner Rundgang zu einem Leuchtturm. Dort fühlt es sich definitiv nicht nach einer großen, hektischen Stadt an. Auch einmal schön da raus zu kommen. An dem Strand hat man auch ein bisschen mehr das australische Englisch gehört, da außenrum eine kleine Siedlung mit sehr sehr schönen Häusern ist.Read more

      Sydney hed sech schnell als rechtigs Shoppingparadies usegstellt. Einersiits heds done Läde wo eher i eusem Budget entsprächet ond anderersiits hauet alli eri Sache noch Wiehnacht ond Neujohr zo onglaubleche Schnäpplis use! Eusi Chleiderschränk ond Gottechinder werds freue. Esch nor zhoffe, dass mer ned scho bald en zuesätzlechi Koffere för all die neu War bruched. Tag 3 esch wie im Flog verbi ond vollumfänglech förs Shoppe drufgange.

      Im Gägesatz zo Singapur gots done einiges ruhiger zue ond här. Es läbt sech vell entspannter, d Lüüt send super relaxed, emmer sehr fröndlech ond hilfsbereit. Das chillige "Surfer-Gen" bi de Aussies esch also ned nor en Mythos sondern dröckt bi allne emmer weder spürbar döre.
