      jour 4 Wien !!! (pov justine)

      Vienne !! J’avais hate d’y aller eh bah c’est super joli tous les bâtiments sont incroyaux et colorés et y’en a de tous les côté ! On a découvert des endroits sympas : des églises (pour changer), un immense marché où on a découvert le soda autrichien Almadudler (sur un gros malentendu mais c’était hyper bon), y’avait des vetements dans des murs et un temple avec plein de plastique (cf la photo 5 pour la ref t’as capté)
      ce soir on a mangé dans un foodtruck où j’ai acheté une patate avec de la garniture c’était MAMA je me suis régalée putiche bref la on boit des cocktails c’est sympa
      apres y’avait un rat j’ai eu peur et un type s’est tapé un fou rire

      Wenn das Leben dir Zitronen gibt

      We arrived safe in Vienna!

      Then we found out almost all of the museums, including the Opera House, got closed down yesterday. And then we found out we can no longer get into the Czech Republic.

      So after trying to get a hold of Orbitz and learning it'd take 14 hours(!) for someone to get back to us, we bought new tickets to LAX for Monday. We figured we'd best have an exit plan before spending a full day getting a hold of them.

      For now, we're going to relax (there's a Jared-sized bathtub!) and enjoy the sights that we can still see. It's a bit of a bummer that everything is closed down, sure, but the bright side is that 1) the government is taking this seriously and working to limit the virus' spread, and 2) we have an excuse to come back! Also we get to see Cholula that much sooner!

      Tonight we took a trip to a local restaurant and had some goulash & schnitzel, paired with an Austrian beer and an Aperol spritz. Then we headed over to Hotel Sacher Wien for a Sachertorte and some strudel. Köstlich!

      We'll keep you posted as things do or don't change. We'll be sure to keep abreast of any developments and have the embassy on speed dial just in case.      Read more

      Sissi, Apfelstrudel und Sonne ☀️

      Nach sechs Stunden Zugfahrt über Nürnberg und Passau kommen wir mittags in dem wunderschönen Wien an. Online wird schnell noch das 72h WienTicket gekauft (18€) und dann gehts mit der U-Bahn zu unserem Airbnb in der Mosergasse 3. Check in ist erst später, also kurze Sachen an und Gepäck ablegen und ab in die City. Zum Ankommen und Erfrischen gibt es erstmal einen Limoncello Spritz in der Lamée Rooftop Bar mit Blick auf den Stephansdom, gehts uns gut! :) Im Dom ist grad die Generalprobe für ein Haydn-Konzert, wir lauschen kurz, bestaunen den gotischen Bau und genießen dann noch die schöne Aussicht vom Nordturm. Bei schönstem Wetter machen wir einen kaiserlichen Spaziergang durch den Volksgarten, erfrischen uns mit Aperol und Bier und gehen weiter zur Hofburg und dem Burggarten, der damaligen Stadtresidenz des kaiserlichen Paars.Read more

      heute ultimative Massage 'Deeper info Africa' hiess sie und war (hier bitte lautes Schnurren 🐈‍⬛ einfügen). Dann Brunch, in der Stadt rumlungern und jetzt mit Glühwein im Prater den Entspannungszirkel schliessen. Übermorgen fang ich an Richtung Schweiz zu gondeln.Read more

      Journée visite de Vienne

      Réveil à 8h pour moi douche puis je go prendre du pain pour taper dans le nutella pendant que la V se prépare (il faut toujours prévoir un extra temps pour cela, mais je l'apprécie malgré tout), la baguette a 3,2€ ! Nous sommes à Vienne, la spécialité c'est les viennoiseries mais pas la baguette visiblement. J'ai "pin" les endroits à visiter la veille sur google mpas et on élabore un chemin de visite pour la journée pour être efficace car c'est notre seul jour de visite. On va au Palais de Belédère, pendant ce temps je pense avoir trouvé un logement pour Lausanne mais il se trouve que c'est une arnaque qui n'en laisse guère paraître à première vue. Je suis impressionné par l'immensité du jardin, l'imposance du palais. Beaucoup de très belles statues. On se dirige ensuite vers le centre puis décidons d'aller au marché apres s'être arreté devant l'église Saint Charles Borromée qui ressemble à un palais architecturalement (la visite est payante, on y va pas of course). On se dirige ensuite vers le nashmarkt qui est un long marché avec de nombreux produits et spécialités orientales. Beaucoup de produits turques, les vendeurs nous alpagent et tentent de nous faire tout goûter mais on ne goûte rien. Il fait très chaud aujourd'hui aussi, jusqu'à 36°C. À la fin du marché, on ne sait où manger et on décide finalement de se prendre quelque chose au supermarché et d'aller se poser dans un parc. On mange puis se repose dans l'herbe avant de repartir. On arrive à Wiener Staatsoper (l'opéra national de vienne), puis Hofburg, et enfin la place Maria Thérèse entouré de 2 batiments qui sont aussi impressionnants. Tous ces monuments sont très beaux et imposants.

      Depuis le repas, nous communiquons avec tout type d'accent, mais en majorité belge, cela est fort fun( je crois que je déteins sur Valentine qui devient de plus en plus folle (ceci est positif attention)). On va ensuite au musée de l'équitation (toujours sans rentrer car c'est payant), en continuant l'accent belge, on s'est aussi posés sur 2 chaises randoms faites pour nous au milieu d'une rue, sympathique. On s'arrête toutes les 5 minutes depuis le midi à cause de la chaleur puis on voit comment s'organiser car on essaie de rejoindre Garance qui est là avec ses parents. On va à l'église blanche mais faute de timing on repart visiter Schonbrunn par peur qu'il ne ferme trop tôt. On rejoint la G pour visiter le château. On monte tout en haut et on a une superbe vue sur la ville. On redescend et on se dirige vers le danube où il commence à pleuvoir, on se calle sous un pont et on regarde les restaurants puis on choisit d'aller dans un paki à volonté où on choisit notre prix. Sur le chemin, Valentine commence à faire un peu la tête (grrrr grrrr pas content). On se pose pour manger, puis on repart, on prend le même tram que Garance qui doit prendre un bus ensuite. Le tram reste bloqué 10min pour on ne sait quelle raison et elle se retrouve à devoir attendre le prochain bus, on lui dit au revoir. On repart à l'appart, tentative de Communication avec valou qui fonctionne et ne fait plus la tête, youhouu. On rentre à l'appart puis dodo (pas le temps pour Breaking bad). Demain c'est retour en stop, on pense que ça va être tranquille, ah ah ah.      Read more

      Wer sich einen kulinarisch extrem genussvollen Abend machen will ist in der Labstelle in Wien genau richtig!
      Jeder der sieben (!) Gänge war ein Gedicht für sich - so viele verschiedene Geschmäcke vereint in je einem Gericht - wahre Geschmacksexplosionen!
      Kennt ihr den Film 'Ratatouille'? Wenn sich die kleine Koch-Ratte mal wieder verschiedene Dinge ins Mäulchen steckt kommt es auch manchmal zu Geschmacksexlosionen, dargestellt mit einem Feuerwerk - so gings mir auch!!

      War so schön mit meinen Mädels dort zu dinieren!!!

      Car, plane, train, bus, tram....name a form of transport and we probably used it !! And that is even before you include the ol reliable feet into the equation. Usually day one of any trip is a travel day and by god did we have a travel day! It is only when we arrived at the apartment and thought about it did we realise just how much we had done. We all left home around the 6am mark and didn't reach our final destination until 6pm.

      A crash on the M7 put us under time pressure for the airport. It wasn't a blockbuster worthy dash across a packed airport terminal but it was a shorter timeframe than we felt comfortable with given all the dramatics on the news about delays in security. And dramatics it turned out to be as I have never had a smoother journey through security than today. In fact my passport wasn't even looked at until I arrived in Vienna. Gate number on hand we were on a frantic search for tea as there wasn't enough time for a snoop through duty free but tea was essential given our early rise. While the girls went off on a tea expedition I made a quick pitstop to buy an adaptor plug. When the cashier made a throwaway reference to the fact I was flying from T2 I thought he was joking for some reason and answered with a very drawn out 'yeah'. Then with a sudden realisation and a rapid increase in heartbeat I realised that we had somehow made our way to T1!! How was that even possible???? We had followed the signs!! Typical that the one day we had no leeway in regards time we make a mistake that we may not be able to rectify. After two frantic phonecalls to my tea obsessed travel companions who were too busy looking for lids to know that I was having a complete meltdown I managed to find a info screen. In typical Irish organisation we had T2 on our printed boarding passes but for some reason they had decided to fly us out of a gate in T1. Thanks for that stress Dublin airport! It certainly got my heardbeating as my fitbit can attest to. My oblivious companions returned in a tea induced sense of bliss to find me recovering from my ordeal! It was some start to the morning and one way to guarantee that I was awake!!ha

      An uneventful flight and extended sleep later we arrived in Vienna. It is one of the most modern airports I have even been in and visually very appealing. I am disappointed to have not taken any photos of it but with bag and baggage there just wasn't much time. Once we arrived in Vienna Ais took complete charge. As the German teacher in the group she is in her element here and we appreciate her language skills. She is adamant that she will teach me German on this trip, we will just have to wait and see!ha

      Off we went onto our third mode of transport of the day...the train. We ooohed and aaahed over the flashy trains coming and going on the platform until ours arrived. In typical fashion we got one straight out of the 60s with the only air con the open window. From train to bus we went (all on the same €4 ticket may I add).

      The bus left us off near the hotel when we were to collect our key for the apartment. It was suppose to be a 2min walk but with the aid of Google maps we managed to make it 20. We went on a full tour of the four road junction and then decided that we needed to go to the end of one particular street and of course 10mins later we realised we were wrong. Thankfully due to Aislinn's language skills and a good samaratian we realised it was the other end of the street where we should be. Off we went on our merry way and collected our key.

      The apartment was a short tram ride away but we decided to have a quick ice cream stop first to recover from all the walking and dragging of suitcases in 30degree heat! The apartment was just around the corner from the tram stop. We had finally reaches our destination!! The final hurdle we had to face was the climb up to the apartment. The claustropia inducing elevator was NOT an option so a million flights of steps it was!!

      After some chill time and recovery we headed off out to explore our neighbourhood. We are right on the Danuabe river and around the corner are many restaurants and cafes. A quick first night dinner/delayed celebration of Aislinn's birthday ensued before back home. 10,000 steps later, despite three hours stationary on a plane, means the rest was well deserved!!!
