Gestern ging es weiter Richtung Sarajevo. Dank einer einstündigen Straßensperrung für Herr Erdogan 😡, langsamtster Grenzkontrollen und einem heftigen Gewitter mit 20 Grad Temperatursturz haben wir Sarajevo nicht mehr ganz erreicht und haben nach einem leckeren Lammbraten im Motel übernachtet .Read more

Today we drive from Split to Dubrovnic but decided to take a detour into Bosnia and visit the remarkable town of Mostar. This city was divided Moslem against Christians each living on their own side of the river that runs through the city. The bridge was bombed in the war and totally destroyed but rebuilt by the goodwill of each towards the other as a physical commitment to a shared future. People flock to this symbol of hope daily as we did also. The city still bears many signs of its destruction with buildings bombed and still not rebuilt.Read more

Our short visit in Bosnia starts in Mostar which we have been dreaming to visit for a long time. It is famous of its Stari Most (Old Bridge) which was painted by Csontvary (isn't that right Mom? ;) - Vera). We wandered around in the old town which is a bit crowded with full of souvenir shops, cobbled streets and the beautiful old bridge. Men in tiny swimming pants were waiting for enough people to gather before one of them jumps off the bridge. Well the teasing took so long that we didn't wait for it but took some great photos of the bridge from different angles. For lunch we had the most amazing balkan food so far, plenty and really tasty! Later we went to the Museum of War and Genocide Victims 92-95 which was extremely shocking but a fantastic exhibition. We also saw a few old 'skeleton' buildings which are still in ruins since the war, bullet holes in walls are still easy to spot all over town.
The next day we left for a half day excursion to Blagaj which is famous for its Dervish Islamic monastery and the source of a beautiful river which comes out of a cave right under the monastery. Now we are off to Sarajevo to meet the Muhi Clan!Read more

Road trip: Croatia to Bosnia

Final breakfast in our beautiful garden haven before saying a sad goodbye to Dubrovnik and picking up a hire car for the road trip to Mostar, AND we scored an upgrade to an Audi SUV 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻.
Dubrovnik: 33.8kms, 46,703 steps in total.

In true Horrox style we did not follow the expected ‘tourist’ route to Mostar but took a detour through the remote baron hillside of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on extremely narrow roads that needed more than a little attention and not so suitable for a brand new ‘large’ Audi. Stopped off at Kravice Waterfall for a quick refreshing dip in the freezing cold water before arriving in Mostar late afternoon and realising the upgrade to the Audi has disadvantages as we tried to navigate the extremely narrow one way street system to find our accomodation 😳.

‘Villa’ Globus is not quite what I was expecting- hopefully it will be better than first impressions. Headed to Stari Grad- the old town for some much needed food and drink before exploring our new home for the next few days. First impressions- love the Turkish influences and the Islamic Call to Prayer that can be heard throughout the old town.Read more

Wir verlassen die EU

Nun war der Tag der Abreise dann doch gekommen. Neben einigen Vorbereitungen wie einer letzten Dusche mussten wir uns nun auch auf ein Land ohne freie mobile Daten einstellen, da Bosnien leider nicht Teil der EU ist. Darum luden wir uns einige Offlinekarten auf google Maps herunter und entschieden uns für die kostenpflichtige park4night Version, so dass wir auch in Bosnien weiterhin kostenfreie Plätze ausfindig machen können.

Doch bevor wir nach Bosnien einreisten, besichtigten wir zunächst den blauen und roten See bei Imotski relativ nah an der Grenze. Diese Seen waren außergewöhnlich, denn sie liegen in einem tiefen Felsschlund ohne Zu- und Abfluss. Beim blauen See konnte man sogar bis zur Wasseroberfläche hinabsteigen.

Und dann kam der Grenzübergang nach Bosnien, denn wir uns nicht so einfach vorstellten. Doch mit den Reisepässen und der grünen Versicherungskarte ausgerüstet hat das schnell und ohne weitere Probleme geklappt. Zunächst waren wir aufgeregt wieder in ein neues Land einzureisen und die Unterschiede zu erleben, doch diese waren zunächst nicht ausmachbar.

Unser erstes Ziel in Bosnien sollte die Stadt Mostar sein, die auch von vielen Kroatienurlaubern in einem Tagesausflug besichtigt wird. Wir konnten einen park4night Platz direkt in der Stadt finden, von der aus es nur 5 Gehminuten bis in die Altstadt waren. Bis wir uns aufmachten um diese zu besichtigen fing es schon langsam an zu dämmern, wodurch die Altstadt noch charmanter wirkte - viele kleine Straßenstände in engen aber gemütlichen Gassen, hier ein Café, dort ein Restaurant und zwischendurch der islamische Gebetsruf aus den Lautsprechern der Moscheen. Selbstverständlich sahen wir uns auch die berühmte Stari Most Brücke an, die nach dem Krieg wieder neu errichtet wurde.

Wir suchten ein kleines Restaurant aus und entschieden uns für die angepriesene Fischplatte von der auch die Straßenkatzen begeistert waren, die uns nach und nach besuchten. Obwohl es Samstagabend war, waren die Restaurants nicht stark frequentiert, so dass wir uns wunderten warum in der Nebensaison dennoch alle geöffnet hatten.

Zurück auf dem Parkplatz fühlten wir uns etwas unwohl, da die Bezahlung nicht eindeutig war, der Parkplatz hell beleuchtet und die Toiletten bereits geschlossen. Die erste Nacht im neuen Land kommt uns immer etwas seltsam vor.Read more

Második nap felfedeztük Mostar óvárosát, a hídról leugró srácokat is láttuk. Elmentünk egy 10 perces kis motorcsónak túrára, ahol klassz fotókat lőttünk. Aztán délután volt egy kis medencézés és este bementünk még vacsorázni az óvárosba. A baklava nagyon fincsi volt, nem olyan mint otthon.Read more

Bosnija&Hercegovina - Mostara

- Šodien arī startējam diezgan agri. Brauksim uz Bosniju un Hercegovinu. Domājam, ka kļūda, jo jābrauc ~130km, bet Google maps rāda, ka jābrauc 3h. (Nebija kļūda...). Sākās ar to, ka braucot pa taisnāko ceļu distances ziņā trāpījām uz robežkontroles punkta, kur nedrīkst parasti mirstīgie šķērsot robežu. Jāgriež riņķī, neko darīt. Bet zaudēts nav daudz. Kopumā kādas 40min un esam atpakaļ uz īstā ceļa.
- Kad braucām ar autobusu no lidostas ievēroju, ka braucot augšā kalnā vienmēr ir divas joslas, lejā no kalna viena. Nesapratu kāpēc. Kad braucam ar mazo zibeni uz Mostaru sapratu. Mūsu opelītis kalnā baigi nevilka. Tāpēc braucot augšā kalnā otra josla ir domāta tādām "sēnēm" kā mēs, kuru vāģīši nevelk, tādā veidā netraucējot satiksmi citiem.
- Pēc līkumotā un saraustītā ceļa beidzot esam galā. Pirmās sajūtas Mostarā divējādas. Tūristi itkā diezgan daudz, kafejnīcas diezgan pilnas, bet cenas smieklīgas. Nopērkam cafe un bulciņas abiem -kopā samaksājam 1.5eur. Uz ielām arī ļoti daudz ubagi. Lai arī pagājuši gandrīz 30 gadi kopš šeit bija pilsoņu karš vēl aizvien pilsētas centrā ir daudz gruasti un ložu sacaurumotas ēkas.
- Bez īpaši izstrādāta maršruta izlīkumojam pilsētu. Satikām Brūsu Lī. Lai arī pat iegūglējot tā arī īsti nesapratu, kāpēc te ir viņa statuja. Bet nu mazai foto sesijai der tāpat.
- Tālāk jāiet uz Mostaras galveno objektu - Stari Most. Vislabākais skats uz tiltu ir no Koski Mehmed Pasha mošejas. Turp arī dodamies. Ieeja mošejā neraksturīgi augsta salīdzinot ar visu pārējo šeit - 6eur. Bet nav variantu, ir jāiet. Daudzie paklāji un spilveni mošejā nedaudz atgādina 3 dienu vilktu zeķu aromātu, bet ilgi iekšā nav jāuzturas. Kāpjam augšā, lai redzētu tiltu. Tornītis tik šaurs, ka divi samainīties nevarētu. Mums kaut kā noveicās, lai arī mošejā cilvēku bija gana - augšā tornī bijām divatā. Diezgan stilīgi tilts atspīd upē. Noskaņu nedaudz nosit tas, ka tilts ir bijis pilnīgi iznīcināts kara laikā un šī ir precīza replika. Tāpat jāatzīst, ka izskatās iespaidīgi.
- Lēnā garā cauri tirdziņam jāaiziet arī līdz pašam tiltam. Šeit mammas maciņu misiju izpildīt būtu vieglāk. Lidostā nopirkām 2 gab. pa 8eur. Šeit 4 gab. pa 2eur. Uz tilta viens džeks, kas vāc ziedojumus. Kad viņam samet konkrētu summu kastē, tad viņš ielec no tilta upē. Vienu reizi sagaidījām. Tilts ir 25m augsts... un ārā ir aprīlis. Tādā laikā kalnu upes nav baigi siltas.
- Pirms došanās tālāk uztankojamies drošā vietā - maķītī, kur tiekam pie interneta un WC, kuru nebija nemaz tik viegli pilsētā atrast.Read more

Despite Mostar having done much to rebuild after the recent wars - there remains much evidence of the destruction with bullet holes in buildings still occupied those left derelict, which we saw this morning we went on the hunt for the sniper tower- the former bank that was used due to its location and height.

Then spent a leisurely afternoon watching some very mad people in the Red Bull Cliff Diving Comp - even spotting an Aussie or two.Read more
