      Alte und neue „Wunder“

      Agen - Montech (72km)
      Kanal, 24 Schleusen, ähnliche Landschaft wie gestern, eine ganze Weile „zwischen den Wassern“ (links der Kanal, rechts die Garonne) und ziemlich viele Wanderer, darunter offensichtlich zahlreiche Pilger - das muss man hier mögen - denn Moissac ist ein Etappenziel des Jakobswegs. Und auch für uns eine sehenswerte Zwischenstation mit der Abtei und vor allem dem Kreuzgang, der als einer der schönsten der Welt beschrieben wird. Ich bin zwar keine Pilgerin, aber als Radtouristin (éco-voyageur😁) profitiere ich von einer Ermäßigung.👍
      Das zweite „Wunder“ wartet am heutigen Tagesziel: La pente d‘eau de Montech - eine „Schiffsrutsche“. Schwer zu erklären, aber wir wurden überzeugend ins Museum eingeladen und waren begeistert von der Multimediainformation. Auf jeden Fall wurde dieses Bauwerk in den 70er Jahren errichtet, um 5 Schleusen zu umgehen und damit Zeit aber auch Wasser zu sparen, und war bis 2009 in Betrieb.
      Danach haben wir uns auch endlich getraut, dass Radfahrerpaar anzusprechen, das wir seit drei Tagen immer mal wieder treffen und wir sind dann gemeinsam zum Campingplatz navigiert. Der ist sehr gemütlich, Supermarkt praktisch am Tor, kleine Küche, in der wir uns etwas zubereiten können, und vor allem ein Pool, der heute noch geöffnet ist.       Sugar and Chocolate Museum

      We were the first customers through the door of this quaint little museum. It tells the story of Yves Thuriés, a talented chef, pastry maker, chocolate maker and a member of the Culinary Academy of France. He was twice voted the best master craftsman of France as a pastry, chocolate, confectionery and ice-cream maker.

      The museum outlines Yves’ progress and success as an artisan chocolatier who raised the profile of chocolate in the south of France. Within a few years he became one of the biggest names of chocolate and Cordes-sur-Ciel in the Tarn became the birthplace from which he has passed on his expertise in the purest tradition of the artisan. Today his creations travel throughout the world and, as a member of the French Academy of Chocolate, Yves Thuriés is an exemplary professional dedicated to quality and innovation.

      A number of his creations were on display and took between 30 and 100 hours to complete.

      Yves Thuriés’ recognition by his peers is acknowledged by the award to the chef from Cordes of the “Grand Prix 2008 of the book of Master Craftsmen of France” for the 350,000 copies of his encyclopaedia that had been sold to date throughout the world.

      In 1991 he opened his first hand-crafted chocolate factory in Carmaux. He is at the heart and at the forefront of chocolate creation. He gave birth to marbled chocolate, followed closely by chocolate macaroons that enabled him to be awarded the Innovation Leader prize in 1991. He continues to mentor young chocolatiers to this day.      Read more

      Cords-Sur-Ciel

      Today began with a half-hour drive to what is known as the village in the sky - Cords Sur Ciel - rated as one of the prettiest villages in France and it's easy to see why. Even better, there was hardly anyone there.

      It was built in the 1200's to protect the scattered population of the area from conflict and religious persecution. It is now home to artists and craft shops.

      It is referred to as the village in the sky because at times, clouds can obscure the bottom half of the mountain it is built on, thus giving the appearance it is above the clouds.      Read more

      Cordes

      Travelled over to see Cordes, 800 year old hill fort that's now a very artsy town, really beautiful place even if the weather wasn't! Managed to find a cheap spot for the night at the foot of the hill so we'll get to see the citadel lit up at night too! 😊Read more

      A stroll, a drink and a yarn by the Tarn

      After checking into our hotel, Le Pont Napoleon, we decided to take a walk along the river and check out the burb. The receptionist at the hotel told us about a lovely Art Deco bar that made cocktails a little bit down the river, and that sealed the deal.

      There was a lovely bridge near the hotel (Pont Napoleon), and the area was full of interesting things. There were several people fishing from the river bank. We also came across a game of pétanque underway, and it looked like serious business - we saw the tape measure come out a couple of times.

      We finally found Villa Blanche, where we stopped for a pre-dinner cocktail. Life is good, and it’s important to take time to smell the roses or sip on a cocktail (Ed - or beer, or other beverage of your choice). We headed back to the hotel for a lovely dinner of tomato carpaccio, a choice of fish or duck for main, and Tiramisu for dessert. We also got some delicious onion pastry rolls to start. It was a very nice dinner.

      42. Wandertag

      Ein weiterer Eckpunkt haben wir heute erreicht; Moissac. Nun sind wir definitiv im Süden angekommen von der Viehzucht wechseln wir zum Ackerbau, Früchte und Gemüsebau, einfach nur grossartig. Hier wurden früher auch Tauben gezüchtet.

      Heute habe ich zufällig eine Gespräch mitgehört. Zwei Frauen haben über reiche und intelligente Leute geredet. Irgendwie ging mir das nicht mehr aus dem Kopf. Wie definiert man reich? Viel Geld? Ab wieviel Geld ist man reich? Oder ist derjenige reich der zufrieden und dankbar ist, dankbar dass man jeden Tag zu essen hat oder gesund ist. Vielleicht lohnt es sich, dazu ein paar Gedanken zu verlieren.      Read more

      In Moissac

      In Moissac schlafe ich in der großen, kirchlichen Herberge "L'ancien Carmel". Beim Abendessen treffe ich Philippe wieder, den Franzosen, mit dem Magdalena und ich es schon in Conques lustig hatten (und dem ich seit dem regelmäßig über den Weg laufe) und gemeinsam mit einem Deutschen und einem Niederländer (und etwas Rotwein) haben wir es wieder sehr witzig.
      Nach dem Essen spricht mich aus heiterem Himmel ein blonder Mann auf dem Gang zwischen den Schlafräumen an.
      "Bist du Sophie?", will er wissen.
      Ich bejahe verwundert.
      "Du hast so österreichisch ausgeschaut", scherzt der Mann mit eindeutig österreichischem Dialekt (im genaueren Zuordnen war ich noch nie gut). "Nein, deine Zimmerkollegin hat von dir erzählt", fügt er hinzu.
      Ich bin mit einer jungen Französin im Zimmer, die ich erst an diesem Nachmittag kennengelernt habe und es scheinbar auch als glückliche Fügung sah, gleich zwei Österreichern an einem Tag zu begegnen, sodass sie uns kurzerhand zusammengeführt hat. Robert kommt aus Salzburg und ist, nach Martin und Andrea, erst der dritte österreichische Pilger, dem ich auf diesem Weg begegne. Oh, und Gustav aus Klagenfurt natürlich, aber der ist ja auf dem Weg nach Jerusalem.      Read more

      Aussicht auf Moissac

      Heute komme ich in der Gite; La petite Lumiere unter… sie befindet sich gleich neben dem Aussichtspunkt mit bester Aussicht auf die Stadt, wie cool.

      Es hat ultra viele Mücken leider und ich werde draussen aufgefressen, so verschanze ich mich vor dem Abendessen halt im Zimmer, ansonsten bin ich dauergestresst, da ich mich ständig um die Mücken schlage.

      Das Essen ist excellent. Melone, Linseneintopf mit Ei, Käse mit Salat und schliesslich noch Eis… Wow.
      Mittlerweile ist es für mich schon eine Gewohnheit geworden 3-4 Gänge zu essen verrückt!      Read more

      Up hill and down dale

      After our stroll around Lauzerte, Jerome dropped us at the bottom of the hill so we could commence our walk, a section of the Via Podiensis, the name for the Le Puy route of the Chemin de St Jacques. He said we had to walk up the hill and down the other side to meet him, but not to worry as it was easy going. The walk started off quite easy but then we had a fairly steep climb over uneven and rocky terrain. The weather was also warming up, so the going was a bit hot and sticky. We wondered if Jerome had actually done this walk, and his name was taken in vain more than a few times. We passed a couple of houses and came across the St-Sernin-du-Bosc church located in the woods at the top of the hill, where there was a mass being held for pilgrims.

      We continued downwards towards the pick-up point and passed several more houses, including one with an absolute menagerie of farm animals. We arrived at the pick up point just as Jerome was arriving. We then had a short drive to the town of Moissac.      Read more

      4. Etappe Jakobsweg - Cahors-Moissac

      Schöne Tour durch die ehemalige Region Quercy mit wahnsinniger Fernsicht (circa 100 km). Man konnte noch im Rücken die schneebedeckten Berge des Zentralmassivs sehen und in Fahrtrichtung das Atomkraftwerk Golfech - ein Relikt französischer Energiepolitik aus den 1990 Jahren.
