Mad og vin tour i Bordeaux

      April 27 in France ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

      May 24 in France ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Read more

      September 17, 2019 in France ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Exploring Bordeaux and an Early Dinner

      October 6, 2022 in France ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

After settling into our new digs it was time for us to go out and explore the local area. We were very centrally located in the Saint Michel neighbourhood of Bordeaux and there was lots of action all around us. As we were so close to the Pont de Pierre that crosses the mighty Garonne river, we decided to walk across it to take a look around. The river is tidal and flows very quickly when the tide is going in or out. Bordeaux also has a large tram network and the trams are as long as our trains! They are sleek and very modern - they look fab. After crossing the bridge, which is very long, we crossed back.

We wandered up the main boulevard Cours Victor Hugo to buy some grocery supplies, and found a lovely ‘bio’ store where we purchased yogurt, fruit, bread, coffee and milk. We dropped these off at the apartment and headed out for an early dinner to Place Meynard, a square located just around the corner from us. It is full of bars and restaurants and seems to attract a young crowd. Here there is also the impressive Bell Tower of Saint Michael and it’s associated Basilique.

We found a lovely brasserie called Chez Thérèse where we had a great meal. Ian had fish and I had steak tartare followed by some ice cream (Ian had cassis and I had pistachio) and espressos. We then headed home for a relatively early night as we had our tour to the Medoc region in the morning. Before retiring, we indulged in a digestive, a glass of dessert wine from Chateau Mercuès.

      Bordeaux

      March 12, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

      Bordeaux Last Day

      June 21, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Last night we ventured out to the nearby neighbourhood to seek nightlife of sorts. We had an enjoyable wine at a tapas bar which also sold interesting cheese. We resisted that and walked on to find the La Bocca restaurant. Yes, it was Italian but we really enjoyed sharing a plate of pasta with truffle sauce and the tomato/mozzarella/salad/avocado entree. Needless to say, I was extra excited that we saw the handsome star of CALL MY AGENT (Asaad Bouab) walking down the street towards us!! See photo! We then did a lovely after-dinner walk around the gorgeous neighbourhood of Notre Dame (and yes there is a church), then along the riverfront.

This morning after breakfast we got the tram initially to PLACE DE LA BOURSE - which is a great square of buildings. Unfortunately, the water was not on in order to see the famous reflection. After that, we went on to the train station to pick up our last hired car. All went well for pick up but once we got on the road the GPS was playing up again - and there were road closures and deviations - annoying BUT the amazing Craig got us and the car safe and sound home and into the car park.

We had lunch at Vatel - which is the nearby training hotel/restaurant - with creative and tasty food.

Afternoon wander and dinner at Akashi

      October 7, 2022 in France ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

After Luc dropped us back at the apartment, we stored our wine purchases, freshened up and headed back out to have a bite to eat. We found a good burger place not too far from our apartment in a nice little square. As it was such a lovely day the locals and tourists were out in force. After lunch, we meandered down some streets heading back towards our place for a bit of down time.

We had a dinner reservation for 7.30 pm at Akashi, a lovely restaurant with French and Japanese influences. We splurged and ordered a bottle of Pomerol red to go with our Menu découverte, which was three courses plus an amuse-bouche.

The amuse-bouche was made up of three bites - a corn/popcorn emulsion, a crumbed prawn and a piece of aged beef. First course was a Cocktail de fruits de mer (seafood) with avocado and a soft boiled egg. Main was Retour du pêche en beignet (fish fried in a ‘doughnut’ batter) served with black rice, shitaké and a Provençal sauce, and dessert was a Tartelette aux mirabelles (plums). It was a lovely meal, very nice clean flavours, and the wine was sensational.

      Beautiful Bordeaux - Day 1

      April 7, 2023 in France ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Great couple of days just strolling around this beautiful, old city. England and France fought over the right to control Bordeaux for centuries; and it's easy to see why..... It's stunning.
Also, it's the law to try their cake speciality....... The cannelė. Soft cake on the inside with a crusty outer edge, and laced with rum. Delicious.Read more

      Bordeaux

      September 12, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Read more

      Bordeaux pour deux (et trois)

      July 2, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We found a Bailey! Wondered around the main town of Bordeaux and saw all the sights of the old city! Alfred was very keen to make the most of the bikes that come with our air bnb so we rode the 6km in and out of Bordeaux twice today! We had a very lazy afternoon having a picnic in the mains gardens in Bordeaux and watching the end of stage 2! We headed back into town to have dinner and drinks at a funky bar with a friend from Bailey's hostel and spent the evening drinking Boudreaux wine (🤠🍷) before riding home again ((:Read more
