Frankfurt on 2 Hours of Sleep

    June 15, 2019 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

What an amazing start to our trip! In less than 8 hours, we did so much in Frankfurt. We had apple strudel and apfelwein (both amazing & highly recommended), climbed 66 meters (216 feet for my American friends) up to the top of Dom Cathedral, and walked through Römberg Square (so many cute, colorful buildings). Taking off soon, but in a short while, we'll finally be in South Africa!!!Read more

    Von Frankfurt nach Mallorca

    May 18 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

😍Read more

Read more

    Frakfurt kfurt

    July 25, 2017 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

Welcome to NZ..?...oops I mean Frankfurt! Wet and cold. So much for summer in Europe. Got onto a Hop on & Hop off bus to have a look around. Most buildings are not very tall as ground is made of sand and clay. Got Twin Tower here which houses banking institutions. The locals call them Debit & Credit. There are some nice people here. Got instructions to bus stop and he said to enjoy the nice weather ( dry humour). Went beside river Maine and over what they think are great bridges (not).Too wet to get off and do sightseeing so just went to look at shops then back to the hotel to watch TV and read book. Went to a good Ole German pub for dinner. Friendly staff. Had Wienner schnitzel of course! Graham and John had pork knuckle with sour crowt cabbage. Ainsley had a salad. Healthy Bitch! Leaving early tomorrow morning to take bus to Prague.Read more

    Heidelberg

    June 18, 2016 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

We docked in Frankfurt today. As we have been to Frankfurt before we did not do any tours here so we took the Uniworld bus to Heidelberg.

Heidelberg is located about 78 km south of Frankfurt, is a university town with roughly a quarter of the population are students.

Heidelberg University was founded in 1386 and is Germany's oldest and one of Europe's most reputable universities. The university also has a interesting story about the invention of s chocolate called the Student Kiss.

Heidelberg’s Student Kiss was the clever creation of Fridolin Knösel who was the proprietor of the long-standing Cafe. Knösel was a chocolatier and master confectioner who was much liked by his customers.

His wittiness and creative and exquisite chocolates attracted many to his cafe, including the young ladies who were attending Heidelberg’s finishing school. Of course the presence of the young women attracted the male students of Heidelberg university who would also flock to the store, hoping to catch the attention of the young women. However, their ever-protective governesses, who were never far away, made it difficult for the young people to meet. It pained the owner of a store to see his young patrons suffer and so he very cleverly created a chocolate delight which he called the Student Kiss. The exquisite chocolate delight was ingeniously promoted as a gallant token of affection from the giver.

Finally, it seems the young men and women had a discreet way of sending messages to each other. If the young lady accepts the Student Kiss, it is an indication that she is accepting of the young man’s approach. If however the Student Kiss is returned, it is bad news for the bloke as it indicates rejection.

    Frankfurt

    June 29, 2017 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Visit to the Cathedral, walking around and seeing the nice shops, museums, travelled on the awesome underground. Very nice A & 0 Hostel. Sadly didn't get to hear the famous bell 'Gloriosa' of the Frankfurt Cathedral, instead hearing some of her smaller sisters at the Midday Angeles. The Frankfurt Transport system is very good!Read more
