      …the end of a very busy, comprehensive and complex tour of the Amalfi coast…
      This region, including Positano, Sorrento, and Praiano are generally on the top of most peoples’ must-see travel list… Yes, and they are magnificent, beautiful, breathtaking, unique, picture-perfect and
      insta-worthy but, they are also very tight and cramped due to their geographical positions in Italy; making them complex to get into. They are extremely expensive and the true definition of what we would classify a ‘tourist trap’.
      Having said that, I’m definitely satisfied that I am ticking it off my to-do list ✅

      A very full on day was completed by visiting a local recommendation overlooking the bay of Napoli… A fresh and tasty catch of the day, perfectly coordinated with al dente, spaghetti and crusty bread 🥖 Add a crisp Chardonnay from the Umbria region and Bob’s your
      Australian-Italian Uncle 🤪 🥂

      Let’s imagine that our Skipper from today’s activities was the very man who went out into the ocean to collect our Bounty for tonight’s feast…

      Amalfi, Teil 1

      In Amalfi haben wir 3 Stunden Aufenthalt.

      Hier haben wir unser teures Frühstück in Italien: für 2 Café Amerikano und 2 Croissants = 20€

      Dafür entschädigt der Dom mit einer beeindruckenden Krypta und toller Holzdecke im Dom.

      Die Stadt ist wahnsinnig voll und zu allem Überfluss sind auch noch massenweise Schüler hier. Was die hier lernen sollen ist uns schleierhaft.      Leggi altro

      Amalfi

      Am Dienstag düsten wir mit unserem Flitzer Mietwagen Richtung Amalfiküste und direkt nach Amalfi.
      Wir parkten an der Kaimauer, snackten eine Runde und starteten unseren Stadt Spaziergang. Der Anfang war zäh, denn es war bereits später Vormittag und die Sonne prasselte auf uns nieder. Kein Lüftchen. Alle hingen etwas durch.
      Zum Glück kühlten wir uns in den kleinen engen Gassen schnell wieder ab und nach einem deftigen Mittagessen am Hauptplatz ging es allen wieder gut. Wir schlenderten durch den Ort und bogen in das ruhigere Labyrinth aus Gassen ein.. Janosch durfte entscheiden und gleichzeitig "rechts" und "links" üben. Immer wieder stoppten wir für einen Aussichtspunkt, Verschnauf- und Snackpausen. Zurück am Hafen gab es ein Zitronensorbet. In dieser Region dreht sich alles um Zitronen und gefühlt alles wird daraus hergestellt. Seife, Parfüm, Bonbons, Likör und auch Kleidungsstücke aller Art werden in hellen Farben und Zitronenmustern verkauft.
      Wir kühlen uns noch die Füße im türkisfarbenen Meer ab, ehe Janosch und ich mit der Fähre und David und Frieda mit dem Auto zurück nach Hause düsen.      Leggi altro

      Amalfi Küste

      Heute steht die Amalfi Küste am Plan. Eigentlich wollten wir gleich in der ersten Ortschaft Positano einen Stopp einlegen, jedoch sind alle Parkplätze bereits voll. Die Aussichten sind toll, die Straßen teilweise sehr eng und die Italiener fahren sehr rücksichtslos. Gut das wir keinen Stress haben. Die kurvigen Straßen sind nicht gerade Vorteilhaft für Evelyn ihr Bauchweh.

      In Minori finden wir endlich einen Parkplatz und machen eine Pause. Wir spazieren am Strand entlang und Chris trinkt einen Kaffee. Dann fahren wir weiter Richtung Salerno, ab hier ist weit weniger los und es ist ein wenig entspannter zum fahren.

      Nach der Amalfi Küste machen wir am Strand eine Pause, leider ist es recht windig und wir bleiben nur im Auto. Mittlerweile geht es Evelyn wieder gut, dafür fangen bei Chris die Bauchschmerzen an…

      Wir fahren noch weiter in den Süden und finden einen tollen Parkplatz direkt an Strand zum übernachten. Chris verkriecht sich direkt ins Bett und muss sich etwas später sogar noch übergeben. Hoffentlich wars das jetzt und es geht wieder bergauf!      Leggi altro

      Amalfi

      Arrivée matinale lundi matin à Salerne, après une nuit plutôt confortable. Un peu de retard à l'arrivée, mais on a gagné 45 min au chaud.
      Première vue sur la mer et on va manger de bonnes pâtisseries de bon matin avec les Italiens qui restent au comptoir bien sûr.
      Le lundi tous les musées sont fermés, alors c'est une balade dans Salerne. Duomo superbe pour une ville sans prétention.
      On prend le bus Sita pour Amalfi. C'est un peu couvert.
      Belle vue de notre hôtel pour trois jours.
      Le temps est globalement très changeant et pas chaud.
      Dans certaines villas ils sont en train de refaire les parterres de fleurs car tout a gelé en mars. Montée à Ravello en bus pour la journée mais descente à pied.
      C'est encore très vide de touristes, pas mal de restaurants fermés, la saison et les grands hôtels œuvrent dans 15 j pour Pâques.      Leggi altro

      Costiera amalfitana

      Mein städtischer Stellplatz am Rande von Cava de' Tirreni ist nur wenige Kilometer von meinem heutigen Ziel entfernt, aber auf der schmalen und kurvenreichen Küstenstraße dorthin komme ich nur langsam voran. Zum Glück sind auf ihr am Sonntagmorgen größtenteils Radfahrer und einige wenige Einheimische unterwegs, aber ich kann erahnen, wie nervenaufreibend der Verkehr in der Hochsaison sein muss.
      Für die weitere Erkundung ziehe ich die Wanderschuhe an und begebe mich auf eine knapp 10 Kilometer lange Runde, die mit jeder Menge Treppenstufen versehen ist. Ich bin erstaunt, dass die Gegend, trotz der steilen Berghänge und im Gegensatz zu meinen bisherigen Eindrücken Süditaliens, eine relativ hohe Nutzungsdichte aufweist. Jede mögliche und scheinbar unmögliche Stelle wurde mit Häusern bebaut oder für den Anbau von Zitrusfrüchten terrassiert.
      Nach dem Abstieg über Pontone bis nach Amalfi, muss ich dort ernüchternd feststellen, dass es weit hinter meinen Erwartungen zurück bleibt. Die fehlenden Touristen und teilweise marode Bausubstanz vermitteln einen eher trostlosen Eindruck und das Wetter spielt leider auch nicht mit. Der Domplatz und die schöne Ansicht vom Hafen können aber einiges wieder gut machen.
      Das benachbarten Atrani ist zwar deutlich kleiner, aber hat einige schöne Ecken zu bieten und hier wohnen mehr Einheimische, sodass ein liebeswerteres Bild entsteht.
      Über steile Treppen geht es hinauf nach Ravello, wo ich mein Highlight der Tour entdecke. Die Villa Cimbrone liegt auf einer Felsspitze in Richtung Meer und bietet eine abwechslungsreiche Gartengestaltung sowie tolle Ausblicke. Das Zentrum von Ravello ist ebenfalls sehr sehenswert und eine hervorragende Pizza Capricciosa rundet das positive Bild ab.      Leggi altro

      Amalfi Coast

      Had an amazing four night stay on the Amalfi coast. Stayed at a beautiful AirBnB in Sorrento, and travelled from here. We had a seperate 2 bedroom house high up in the hills of Sorrento with stunning views of the township below, and the ocean across to Naples and Mt Vesuvius. The hosts recommended a local restaurant that picked us up and dropped us home so we ate there twice...it was even higher up on the hills and offered fantastic views.

      We pre-booked boat tours to Isle of Capri and Amalfi, and they were fantastic! Swimming into the Green Grotto on Capri was a highlight. Loved our stops in Positano and Amalfi as well.      Leggi altro

      La mission du jour est de visiter Amalfi.

      Il s'agit d'une ville sur la côte, mais l'accès se fait presque exclusivement en bateau 🛥️ (pour y aller en voiture, il faut se faire 1h de petite route de montagne, se prendre des bouchons monstrueux une fois en ville et avoir la patience pour trouver une place de stationnement 😰).

      On pensait pouvoir y aller en train🚆, car on trouve un arrêt "Amalfi". Mais il ne nous dépose pas du tout là où on espérait😮‍💨. Donc 20 minutes de marche de la gare jusqu'au port⚓, on prend les tickets pour le bateau, on attend 50 minutes, on fait 1h de bateau,... Nous voici finalement dans la ville.

      C'est atypique, mais un peu surcoté à notre goût😕. En effet, même si l'architecture est unique et que la ville à du charme : il y a beaucoup de monde, peu de lieux à visiter, une plage minuscule et des glaces au citron, mais à 9€ l'unité 💸 (le citron est la spécialité du coin).

      Nous avons quand même visité le cloître du paradis👼. Il s'agit d'un monument religieux très intéressant, qui a beaucoup évolué au fil des siècles. Autre fois immense baptise de 3 nefs, aujourd'hui réduit à 1 seule (plus assez de fidèles). Ce cloître abrite de nombreuses reliques, dont les restes du premier apôtre André. Ils ont même un rituel un peu particulier consistant à recueillir, plusieurs fois par an, la substance suintant du réceptacle des restes🤮... Il parait que ce phénomène est une preuve de la spiritualité des reliques.

      Après 1h30 de visite et de dégustation de glace🍨, on refait la meilleure partie de la journée : la balade en bateau et la vue magnifique sur la côte Amalfitaine 🤩pour le retour. Cette fois-ci, on ne se fait pas avoir, on ne prend pas le train et on retourne directement dans la ville où est garé Cloudy !      Leggi altro

      Day 5, Part 2/2– Capri and Dinner

      We were supposed to have lunch at a fancy beach club called Il Riccio, but decided at the last minute to take our captain’s suggestion and stop at Torre Saracena (http://www.torresaracenacapri.com/en/index) at the Marina Piccolo. This was the best decision we could have made. Both the scenery and the food were unreal. We enjoyed zucchini Parmesan, fresh raw mixed seafood, spaghetti vongole, and pasta with zucchini and fresh shrimp. After lunch, we took a nice hike up (everything is straight up and down here) to catch a lovely open-air taxi into the town of Capri. The town was crowded but lovely. A great mix of independent and luxury stores, with plenty of lemon sorbet everywhere you turn. Matt got a great pair of shoes at Ferragamo, so the physical pain we felt on the stairs was worth it. We also ran into Adam Leuger, which was fun! When we arrived back at the hotel, we spent about an hour chilling at the pool, because you really just cannot get enough of the water here. Headed back up to the room using the very cool external elevator (see video; lots of steps and elevators because the hotel is built into a cliff) and got ready for dinner. Tonight we ate at Al Mare, the more casual, but still very nice restaurant that the hotel. When we sat down they gave us each a menu— standard— but only Matt’s had prices on it 😹!! The food was wonderful— we had a calzone with ricotta, mozzarella and salami, a beautiful tuna tartare with preserved lemon, bottarga and fennel, spaghetti with lemon cream, fusilli nerano (zucchini and provolone), and grilled vegetables. We also ordered fried anchovies, though I’m not sure why Matt wanted this, seeing as he hates anchovies. It did not get eaten. Unfortunately, our lovely night was ruined by Donald Trump, as the conspiracy theorists next to us spent the whole night describing every scene in “2000 Mules” to their Australian dining companions and going on and on about how lock down and isolation caused more deaths from suicide than COVID caused. We cut the night short and headed back to the room. We’ll be in bed by 11, which is fine because we’ve been up until about 2am the last three nights!Leggi altro

      Fahrt nach Amalfi

      Sehr wechselhaftes Wetter, viel Wind bis keinen, schnell wechselnd.
      Und zu nass und kalt (unterwegs 5 Lagen (!) Klamotten an).

      Amalfi auch bei Regen aber sehr, sehr schön und dank der Nässe nicht zu überlaufen.Leggi altro
