    Italien - Mailand #1

    April 21 in Italy

    Day 2
Had an early start due to jet lag. Woke up at 430am. Had breakfast at 6.30am and walked to see Leonardo Last Supper at Sant Maria Delle Grazie. It was Amazing!!! Then a free walking tour with Walkabout, with a great guide for 3 and a half hours around Milan. We then proceeded to have a good look at the inside and outside and upside and downside of the Duomo.
We saw some stunning paintings and sculptures. Went down to the crypt to see the favourite cardinal and the arch of the covenant. Then to the Duomo museum and then up to the terrace of the Duomo for a panoramic view of Milan and the sunset. Now resting in a catholic church actually attending mass as they don't serve dinner till 7pm. In total we have walked 14.4km.
Had yummy cannocini pastry before mass at Pannerello.

    Day 3 Milan

    November 15, 2017 in Italy

We spent 3 and the half hours in the Pinacoteca Brera, the art gallery that housed Italian painters like Cresti, Mantegna, Bellini, Raphael, Caravaggio etc
Beautiful paintings from the Gothic through to Renaissance, to the modern.
We had a truffle filled lunch after the Brera.
Nothing like art to whet an appetite not to mention the mileage of walking we've embarked on since arriving in Milan.
We also visited San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore
    and Baslica Ambrogio.

    June 18, 2017 in Italy

Today we spent the day in Kilkenny City, walking around the medieval old town, toured Kilkenny Castle and then we met up with Clendha as the kids played in the park. Fionn channeling his Granddad with hurl and slither. We grabbed a sandwich and sat down by the River Nore (this river will make another appearance in our latter travels), before catching up with the rest of Donnelys for a unique Irish ice cream experience.Read more

    Duomo Milano

    October 2, 2016 in Italy

    Go West

    June 18, 2017 in Italy

We left the ancient south east and headed west, we are headed for Galway, something that the kids find amusing, considering their surnames. The drive west was eventful, google maps has decided the way west will be arrived at by back roads, and tracks. The matter is further complicated by a road closure due to an accident that forces us further into country lanes. Tractors and cows are now our only friends, and we seem to have found a road that see's so little traffic that grass grows high along the centre of the wheel ruts. We continue west, our faith in satellites and humour.

We arrive in Claregalway, a place even my Irish cousins have never heard of, but our hotel stands and we find an Australian has already discovered this place, the barmaid is an Aussie from Melbourne, pioneers we are not.

To bed we go, for tomorrow we go across the water to Inismor
