      Matsumoto, au cล“ur des alpes japonaises

      Nous voilà arrivés à notre nouveau HelpX ! Brian, notre "patron" pour au moins deux semaines tient une auberge de jeunesse posée sur les quais de la rivière Ta, au cœur de Matsumoto. Cependant, en ces temps de virus épidémique, les touristes se font rares... Du coup, on troque les rangements de chambre et autres lavages de couloirs contre des travaux plus... salissants. En effet, Brian est en train de construire une deuxième auberge de jeunesse, en même temps que sa future maison. On est donc bien utiles à dévisser, casser, démolir, peindre, balayer arracher et autres actions en ter. Avec seulement 3h de travail quotidien, on a pas mal de temps libre ! Ce qui nous permet de travailler notre japonais, d'écrire, de lire, de profiter des cerisiers en fleurs, de découvrir la ville, les mangas...
      Nous avons également plusieurs collègues, venus des quatre coins du monde ! Greta, allemande repartie il y a peu, Miriam, espagnole dessinatrice, Sarah, malaisienne quadrilingue et Philip, australien rêveur. C'est avec eux qu'on joue aux cartes, découvre les incroyables magasins SEGA, compare nos systèmes politiques, mange des sushis... Une vraie petite famille !
      Et on profite de nos days off hebdomadaires pour visiter la région... Mais ce sera pour un prochain footprint !      Read more

      Day 5

      Not Takeshi's Castle

      With the weather cooling down, we enjoyed exploring a 400-year-old castle in Matsumoto. It was immersive, with seven wooden floors connected by steep, cramped staircases (some at 61 degrees!). Lots of memorabilia with the history of how Muscats were developed and Samurai armour functioned.

      In the war room on the top floor, we were rewarded with 360-degree views of the mountains. The space needed to have unparalleled visibility of the terrain for strategising. I found this, along with other tactical elements of the build, fascinating, including slits in the walls for muscats to fire from and gaps between the floor and wall to drop rocks on enemies scaling the wall.

      I'll never know how they did that in Samurai armour; I could barely scale the steep stairs in shorts and a T-shirt!

      One vending machine raid and 10,000 steps later, we were back at our new posh hotel. We dutifully removed shoes at the entrance (Mum would approve) and tucked them in shoe lockers.

      Upstairs, the rooms are cute with indirect lighting, welcome jellies and powdered teas! The shower cubicles are still small, but this one has a seat and adjustable rose. The kids were thrilled we had separate rooms; my anxiety took a moment to talk down, but then I remembered we were in Japan. After flopping on the bed, none of us moved until pizza cravings drove us out into the humid rain. A short walk and a flight of stairs saw us holed up in a tiny pizzeria called Beans. Yes, Beans; we don't get it either. However, a sweet, older couple delivered surprisingly good pizzas, and we watched Multiverse and played hangman until 7-Eleven sirened us with weird snack energy for dessert.

      Back at the hotel, a soggy team Blackford dripped all over the foyer, mobilising hotel staff to magically appear with towels and unspoken eye-rolling. 'Bloody tourists, where is your umbrella?!' We are now dressed in Kimono PJs and slippers, ready for our Onsen saunas and soaks later. When I say we, I mean it's us adults so as not to emotionally damage our offspring with our nudity.

      Day 11

      Direction Matsumoto ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ’งโ˜”

      Petit résumé de notre trajet en Emoji pour commencer ๐Ÿšถ>๐ŸšŒ>๐Ÿš…>๐Ÿš…>๐Ÿš…>๐Ÿšถโ˜”๐Ÿ’ง๐ŸŒง๏ธ.

      La nuit à été moins fraîche du coup pas de réveille à 6h ;) on à tranouiller jusqu'à 9h au lit, encore une bonne nuit ๐Ÿ˜Š puis on a préparé notre valise avant de prendre la direction de la gare de Kawaguchiko.

      ๐ŸšถPremière étape à pied 15min environs sous une pluie fine mais ça va on est pas trop trempé, juste on a du marché avec la valise dans la petite route sinueuse et bien pentu!

       ๐ŸšŒ Ensuite bus pour aller à la gare 15/20min, bon timing il se met à bien pleuvoir ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ’ง,on prend les tickets on se fait un breakfast rapide avec le reste des snacks dans un couloir de la gare avant de prendre notre premier ๐Ÿš† direction Otsuki (1h et qq).

      Les sièges sont immenses et les espaces pour les jambes aussi, étrange pour les petits japonais, mais du coup bien confort ! Et trop marrant tous les appuis tête on un petit sicle du mount fuji transformé, brodés avec différentes formes (cf photos). Paysage assez similaire de notre trajet précédent en train + quelques montagnes dans les brouillards avec un effet fumée sympa.

       Petit stop ๐Ÿš avant notre premier JR ๐Ÿš… ce sont les trains rapides, seulement 30min jusqu'à Kofu. Ça a l'air d'être une ville mignonne avec pas mal de maisons typiques (avec les bordures des toits relevées vers le haut, toitures en triangle et souvent mini jardin à la japonaise avec des sortes de bonsaï XXL et arbres taillés en boule) mais pas le temps de visiter on embarque 30min après pour notre 3ème et dernier train ๐Ÿš† direction Matsumoto.
      Arrivée vers 14h30 ça a été plutôt rapide (on a eu de bonnes correspondances ๐Ÿ˜Š) mais la pluie ne s'est pas arrêté!

      On est encore décalé niveau heure pour manger, la ville est déserte et la plupart des restaurants fermés, il ne faudra pas faire les fines bouches. On termine après quelques 10/15min de marche sous la pluie et nos sacs plastiques dans un espèce de 'fast food' type Curry ๐Ÿ› et au final bonne surprise c'est vraiment bon et ça nous réchauffe!

      La pluie s'arrête pas on est un peu dépité on peut pas faire grand chose, on a quand même envie de marcher et se dépenser un peu du coup on achète un parapluie โ˜‚๏ธ en plus pour moi un K-way pour Jerem et on file a pied direction notre logement à 3/4 Km sous la pluie et le froid, il fait genre 10°C ๐Ÿ’ง๐ŸŒง๏ธ 45min ça fait long mais au moins on sera content de se poser au chaud.

      Notre logement s'appelle Ryokan Seifuso, Les ryoakan sont des logements typiques japonais chez l'habitant où l'on dors sur des futons qui sont posés sur des tatamis et normalement ils te servent les repas traditionnels dans les pièces aussi avec tatamis tu t'assis au sol. Mais c'est un peu la déception on arrive plutôt dans un genre d'hôtel de pas très bon goût qui fait bien viellot et où il y a aucun chauffage dans les parties communes. Et on a pas les toilettes et salle de bain dans la chambre! Autant au camping on s'y attendait mais là on avait vraiment envie d'un truc cocooning confort pour se poser au chaud et plus bouger.
      En plus elle à pas de sèche linge donc on va devoir ressortir car là on peut plus repousser la lessive nos fringues sont dégueulasses !!!

      On se pose dans la cuisine moche et gelée pour un petit thé et des petits gâteaux (heureusement délicieux que l'on a acheté à la gare) puis on file aux bains, ça va nous réchauffer! C'est encore séparé fille garçon dommage mais petit moment détente avant de ressortir dans la nuit la pluie et le froid à la Coin laundry ๐Ÿงบ à 10/15min ๐Ÿšถ.

      On est excentré de la ville niveau restaurant on a pas encore trop le choix mais on tombe sur un lieu qui paye pas de mine de dehors mais qui est au final très mimi et chaleureux avec plein de mangas et de figurines et où il fait chaud, ça fait du bien๐Ÿ˜Š. On met 10min à traduire/comprendre le menu. Et on mange des délicieux bols de riz ๐Ÿš avec du porc mariné, de la soupe ( il y a souvent des algues dedans) et quelques légumes principalement pousse de soja et choux (c'est dur niveau légumes...yen a pas vraiment dans les resto et beaucoup de choux dont je suis pas fan!). Il y a aussi souvent des espèces de radis marinés et purée de choux dans des minis récipients à côté. Le tout soupe + bol de riz avec viande ou poisson ๐ŸŸ + les pickles ils appellent ça: Set Meal (enfin en le traduisant ๐Ÿ˜…).

      22h30 on est au lit avec notre linge propre dans notre chambre viellote mais chaude et dans un lit petit pour deux mais bien moelleux.

      (Je pensais avoir pas grand chose à écrire mais au final j'ai encore fait un roman!)

      Matsumoto - chli wie dihei ๐Ÿฅฐ

      „Die nach Kultur duftende Burgstadt der Alpen.“ Dies ist der Wahlspruch von Matsumoto.๐Ÿ˜„

      Bereits auf dem Weg dorthin bekam uns beim Anblick des japanischen Alpenpanoramas ein schönes Heimatgefühl (mit bitzli Heiweh).๐Ÿฅน Funfact: Grindelwald ist eine Partnerstadt von Matsumoto.๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ญ
      Das Städtchen selbst mit seinem Wahrzeichen, der Burg aus dem Jahre 1504, und seinen vielen Museen duftet wirklich nach Kultur und die schönen Cafés und Souvenirläden laden zum verweilen ein. ๐Ÿฏ
      Angekommen gings gleich zur genannten Burg. Der Park ist schön angelegt und wir hatten einmal mehr kaiserliches Wetter. โ˜€๏ธ Der Teich rundherum, naja, sollte mal wieder gereinigt werden. Ganz untypisch für Japan schwimmen die Fische dort zusammen mit Abfall umher.๐Ÿ˜“

      Nach Matsumoto kommen viele Tagestouristen aus Tokio, meist in Kombination mit einem Besuch in Nagano. Dies ist wohl vielen von euch ein Begriff, da dort im Jahre 1998 die olympischen Winterspiele durchgeführt wurden.โ›ท๏ธ Wir stärkten uns am Abend seit langen mal wieder mit einem Dal Bhat (das nepalesische Nationalgericht) und gingen früh ins Bett, da wir für den nächsten Tag eine Wanderung geplant hatten.

      Petrus meinte es erneut gut mit uns - Sonne satt und keine Wolke am Himmel. In die Wanderschuhe und los. ๐Ÿฅพ Im Gebiet von Omachi wanderten wir auf einen Hügel neben dem Kizaki See. Zwei mal mussten wir die Route wechseln, da uns Google Maps und auch eine weitere Wander-App einen Weg zeigten, den es so gar nicht (mehr) gibt. Dafür sahen wir eine Schlange und ein weiteres Tier. Wir könnten behaupten, es war ein kleiner Schwarzbär. Womöglich war es jedoch eher ein Dachs, wir sind uns nicht sicher.๐Ÿ˜„

      Beim Mittagsrast konnten wir den Paraglidern zusehen, wie sie elegant in schwindeleregender Höhe umher flogen. ๐Ÿช‚

      „Dal Bhat Power, 24 Hours“, wie man in Nepal gut und gerne sagt, war diesmal nicht der Fall. Ok, möööglicherweise sind wir auch nicht mehr so fit wie vor 6 Monaten.๐Ÿ˜‚ Jedenfalls war bei mir ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿผ‍โ™€๏ธ die Energie am Ende des Tages komplett aufgebraucht und ich war sehr froh, als wir unser Ziel erreicht hatten. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ‍๐Ÿ’จ

      Der letzte Tag in der Burgstadt stand ganz im Zeichen der Gemütlichkeit. Ein bisschen im Städtli spazieren, Flohmarkt durchstöbern, Glace essen, Kaffee trinken, unsere Reise weiter planen und Abends mit unseren Familien telefonieren.๐Ÿ’•

    • Kleiner Ausflug

      Matsumoto

      Ein kleiner Ort hier mitten in den japanischen Alpen. Hier haben wir uns eine Burg und einen kleinen Schrein angesehen. Wir hatten wieder schönstes Wetter und viele bunte Bäume um uns herum.
      In kleinen Einkaufsgassen waren Cafés und Geschäfte. Hier gab es sogar traditionelle Schuhe zu kaufen, die sehen lustig aus aber auch sehr unbequem. ๐Ÿ˜… Passend dazu gibt es Strümpfe zu kaufen, die man in den Schuhen tragen kann.
      Das sieht zumindest stylischer aus als die Deutschen mit ihren Socken in Sandalen. ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿ˜…
      Sogar eine richtige Baumkuchen Bäckerei haben wir entdeckt. Auch in anderen Geschäften haben wir diesen schon gesehen.
      Wir stellen hier einige Gemeinsamkeiten der japanischen und deutschen Kultur fest. In Japan scheint es alles nur noch intensiver zu sein. Noch pünktlicher, noch sauberer und sozial noch distanzierter. In Südostasien haben sich die Leute teilweise direkt neben einen gesetzt, obwohl noch sehr viel Platz frei war. In Japan passiert das nur, wenn es nicht anders geht und selbst dann stehen sie oft lieber ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผ
      In einer Mall gab es für uns noch Udon Nudeln. Gut das wir schon geübt haben mit Stäbchen zu essen, hier gibt es keine andere Option mehr. ๐Ÿ™†๐Ÿ˜…
      Auf dem Weg nach Matsumoto haben wir ein öffentliches Fußbad entdeckt. Das es hier Badehäuser gibt wussten wir ja aber das hier war schon witzig. ๐Ÿ˜      Read more

      Japanese Alps (Matsumoto) & Nikko

      Final stop in the Japanese Alps is Matsumotooo. Famous for its oldest wooden castle, lattice walled storehouses and for hikers a gateway to the many beautiful walks in the surrounding mountains. A huge doubt whether to visit again stunning Kamikochi but a 1,5 hours travel one way and a 4-hour hike seemed a bit too much for the kids.

      Nikko is our last stop before ending our J-Trip in Tokyo. Again many shrines and temples surrounded by high cedar trees all set in a forest. We stayed in one of the few rooms of a beautiful, remote summer house where retired owner Hiro lives and likes to be accompanied by travellers. A day trip to lake Chuzen-ji was worth it with beautiful vistas along the steep mountain road with many hairpin curves, on the surrounding area, the Kegan waterfall and the lake itself.

      ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ญ: Mit Öv hemmers fängs voll imgriff isch recht easy. Nach öbbe 3h Zug fahre sind mir ide Stadt Matsumoto acho. Sind denn erstmol is Hotel. Sind quasi nur übernacht do, aber sind denn nochane no chli Stadt geahluege. Und immer wieder findet meh echt sehr schöni Shrines๐Ÿ˜ chasch mir sege was wilsch aber de Baustil isch eifach wunderschönโ›ฉ๏ธ i gang sehr gern so shrine geshluege, het au was beruhigendes. Zudem findi kultur do halt mega spannend!!๐ŸŽŽ

      Noch üsem usgehdente spaziergang hemmer denn no es resti gsurcht. Da isch denn ehn kampf gsi i dere mini Stadt. Hend denn gfühlt nach 30min surche eis gfunde. Echt sehr geil gsi. Hend nur im rege derfe zrugg laufe….

      ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ: with public transportation we already have it under control, its really easy. After a 3h drove with the train we arrived the small town Matsumoto. We just stay one night here, so we are went first to the hotel. Bring our stuff in the room and going out to see the city. And everywhere you can find amazing shrines like this๐Ÿ˜ you can told me everything what you want but this architecture is gorgeous!โ›ฉ๏ธ i really like to visit shrines, it also have something soothing. Also i really like the cultur its so interesting๐ŸŽŽ

      After our long walk we decided to search a restaurant for dinner. Wasn‘t easy in this small town. After 30min searching we finally found one and it was delicous. But on the way back i begans to rain…. Wasn‘t that cool      Read more

      Tag 6: Matsumoto Castle und Onsen

      Berühmt ist Matsomoto für seine Burg von der ausser dem Tutm nicht mehr viel ünrig ist. Der schwarze Turm ist aber der Hammer. Wir bekamen von einer betagten Voluntärin eine gratis-Führung in Englisch. Nice.
      In Matsomoto gibt es auch eine Reihe heißer Quellen, die als Onsen genutzt werden können. Da sind wir mit dem Bus hin, was spaßig war, da wir alles falsch gemacht haben (man zieht eine Nummer beim Einsteigen und zahlt erst beim Aussteigen). Der Onsen war sehr traditionell, brutal hiess aber sehr entspannend. Das Bier danach war auch super.
      Zurück in der Stadt haben wir uns eine prima Kneipe zum Abendessen gesucht. Dort gab es auch unseren ersten Sake. Oishi !!      Read more

      Thankfully, our hotel was only a few blocks from the train station, so after checking in and dropping our luggage at the hotel, we left in search of lunch. As per Noah's request, Macca's was our first stop because one had to investigate the difference, you know, for science. Monkey reviewed the Samurai burger and a mystery Hot Pocket; we are still unsure about the ingredients, but that was mainly the point. Stella played it safe with some fries, however hot off a veritable feast of ramen the night before, the parents had noodles on their, well, noodle. Thankfully, what we needed was just across the road. Deliciousness abounded, including various new unknowns such as a Japanese potato salad and coffee jelly. Stella had fallen in love with tempura and Noah miso soup, so this was obviously added on. Paulie is still trying to find okonomiyaki, a savoury pancake that is simply to die for. We'll just have to keep eating at new places to determine if this is indeed true. 'Tis a thankless task...

      With full tummies, we wandered up to the Matsumoto Castle, stopping off at random shops along the way. Squabbling hit an all-time high between the siblings, with Mum and Dad rethinking their life choices (or whether the castle still had a functioning dungeon).      Read more
