      Abel Tasman

      5 Mart 2018, Yeni Zelanda ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

After a day at work we got home on Friday afternoon via Aldi for some last minute snacks to take away with us. Packed our bags realising we have plenty of room for extras. But also knowing we have to transport our luggage on and off a water taxi.
At airport by Uber just after 9pm, through the necessary security and immigration which is now really fast, probably because we know it well. Off to the club for a couple of wines and a bite then on the plane 5 mins after boarding time. Flight attendants were calling us. We were far from late. They were just very efficient. Plane wasn't full so an easy boarding.
Flight was quick as usual. Smooth and super efficient at Christchurch airport. A quick walk to check-in for our Nelson flight then off again into the skies just on daybreak for another hour.
Greg arrived at the airport so a cuppa with him, Shelby and the kids before the next drive to Kaiteriteri via breakfast and a few supermarket essentials. Met Nick and Shona and dropped our combined luggage on the Kaiteriteri beach ready for the chartered water taxi.
After loading all our luggage including Nicks Laser yacht we were off for the 40min cruise to Torrent Bay. Lucky that it was a super high tide as the taxi berthed at the jetty in the lagoon so only a 50 metre walk to the holiday house. One hour later the food is packed away, the wine cellar is full, and the fridge is struggling to cool the kilos of goods.
Julie and I by this time are a little exhausted from lack of sleep so a small power nap helped on by a few wines to celebrate the 4 of us being back together in our secret paradise.
Fish and steak dinner and a few more wines thanks to the aussie and kiwi vintners we finally collapsed into bed by 10pm after not having seen a bed sice 6.30am the previous day.
Woke up after a long sleep to a poor weather forecast. How wrong it was. Beach walk mandatory, eggs for breakfast then some reading, chatting to locals. Not many locals- a few Weka, fantails, and sparrows. Last night there was even a hawk that divebombed the sparrows just missing Regan. Was incredibly fast action. We watched a skate gliding smoothly in the shallows looking for a snack. We even tried the paddle board in the lagoon. Practice required on that one. A swim was included in the training. The sun is fierce in the bay. Such a sheltered area not affected by southerly winds.

      Abel Tasman

      15 Şubat 2018, Yeni Zelanda ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Our second 'great walk', but this time with a twist! We set out in kayaks from Marahau and spent the morning paddling around Adele Island and towards Te Pukatea bay which is pretty much paradise (I realise this isn't the first time I've said that about New Zealand!). We had spent a lot of time the night before preparing some lovely cooked lunches - Adele Island was where we realised we'd forgotten them and were going to be hungry for the next few days! But we battled on and a short paddle around the head and we made it to our first campsite at Torrent Bay. The tide was about as far out as you can get, so we left the boats stranded on a sand dune and paddled them over to the campsite once the tide came in. The next day was a bit of a tougher paddle to Tonga Island and we battled the wind to get back into Onetahuti. After a swim chasing fishes around, Andy and I walked off to the cafe at Awaroa lodge for much needed food while Eleanor took one for the team and stayed to load the kayaks onto the taxi. From there, a sloggish walk over the estuary and we made it to Waiharakeke bay. We couldn't quite believe how many people there were and we had to squash our tents in somewhat, but the flushing toilet more than made up for it :) The next day was a short walk to Totaranui - great for Maddie as Andy and Eleanor carried all the bags as a birthday treat! The swim at the beautiful beach at Totaranui was one of the best we've ever had! We were all shattered as we loaded onto the boat back - and were slightly disconcerted by how quickly the speed boat covered the distance we'd taken 3 days to do!Okumaya devam et

      Abel Tasman Day Trip

      13 Nisan 2016, Yeni Zelanda ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Back to early mornings here! Caught the 715 bus out of town for the Bay Hopper hike at Abel Tasman. By nine the bus arrived at Kaiteriteri and about twenty minutes later the water taxi departed the shores 😊 After about 45 minutes on the water taxi I arrived at my drop off point and began my hike.

In the first hour I found a nice lookout point and a beautiful beach named sand fly beach (the name doesn't do it justice). There was a middle aged lady swimming topless but she certainly didn't care. She looked like she was having the time of her life. I quite admired her spirit actually!

Later I found torrent bay and decided to have my picnic lunch here. There were maybe 5 other people at the beach and it was incredibly calm. My trek continued around 1pm. I had a lot of time to myself today but it was nice. I've began to change my mindset in such a way that I don't spend so much time letting my mind wander through the past or into the future. I just keep it focused on the moment and it's been quite a revalation for me!

I finished the hike with almost an hour until the water taxi came to get me so I spent the last hour in anchorage bay I watched a family go for a swim together. At one point the little girl (maybe 10 years old) yells "it's very cold on my vagina!" I laughed so hard.

By about 340 the water taxi came and picked me up and off I went. It was a beautiful day but as the sun began to set behind the mountains it quickly cooled off and everyone bundled up. I caught the bus and by six I was home again.

I realized today I've officially made this an internal rule of mine. Whenever I ask for help (particularly in a hostel, but I'm working on expanding that to my life in general), I then ask the person for their name. Once they give it to me I thank them by name. I think it makes the gesture more heartfelt and personal 😊

After I got back to the hostel I mainly just relaxed. I made supper and had a shower. Then I kind of figured out my plan for the rest of my time in New Zealand and booked a few key hostels. Other than that I enjoyed the free cake again, even took two pieces! I didn't stick around for social time today because I wasn't feeling up to it. Just lazy and tired. Tomorrow im up at 6am again! Off to Franz Joseph glacier! Nighty night folks!

      Abel Tasman 🏝️

      Abel Tasman coastal track

      Abel Tasman National Park

      18 Ocak 2016, Yeni Zelanda
