    Day 1 in Lisbon

    February 15, 2019 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

So our first day in Lisbon started off very early from London. 3am! Got a little list trying to find the long stay carpark at Heathrow but we got there eventually.
Arrived in Lisbon after 10am and took an Uber to the Four Seasons Ritz Lisbon. Nice hotel but very old school and chintzy.
Had lunch in their Japanese restaurant - fresh sushi made right in front of you. They were accomodating for Serena and made some cucumber and carrot Maki rolls for her.
Then we had a 2 hour tour of Lisbon in a tuktuk which was great. The guide also stopped for me to pop in and get some Portuguese tarts which were divine.
I came back and slept for an hour but Michael and Serena popped over to the swimming across the street as the hotel one was closed.
In evening we went for dinner at the Time Out Market which has around 25 food and drink stalls to choose from. Definitely recommend it. Good value for money. Bit tourist but it's expected in a place like this.
Early to bed tonight and then tomorrow we're off to the botanical garden as the weather looks nice.

    Chill Day

    May 25, 2019 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Read more

    Parque Eduardo VII

    June 15, 2019 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

    Eduardo VII Park

    July 26, 2018 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

The Eduardo VII Park (Portuguese: Parque Eduardo VII) is a public park in Lisbon

The park occupies an area of 65 acres to the north of the Avenida da Liberdade and the Marquis of Pombal Square, in the centre of the city.

Its name pays homage to Edward VII of the United Kingdom who visited Portugal in 1902, to strengthen the relations between the two countries. Until that visit, its name was Liberty Park (Parque da Liberdade).

Within the area of the Park are the Carlos Lopes Pavilion (the former Portuguese pavilion of the 1922 Rio de Janeiro International Exposition) and the Estufa Fria

On the northern top of the park is a flagpole where the present largest Flag of Portugal of the world is usually flown, but not today !

    Marquis de Pombal Square

    July 26, 2018 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

The square named after the Marquis de Pombal is right at the centre of Lisbon, with the convergence of both three of the capitals largest boulevards

The monument to the Marquis of Pombal, the prime minister responsible for the rebuilding of Lisbon following the Great Earthquake in 1755, shows him standing on a column with his hand on a lion, the symbol of power, and his eyes directed to the downtown area that he rebuilt.

The base is decorated with allegorical images depicting Pombal's political, educational, and agricultural reforms. Broken blocks of stone at the foot of the monument and tidal waves flooding the city symbolize the effects of the 1755 earthquake.

The surrounding paving stones are decorated with a mosaic of Lisbon's coat of arms.

    Biketour

    June 27, 2017 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Read more
