Viajero What an amazing trip you are having - fantastic that you have the guide to yourself and get to meet and be welcomed by all these local people. What is the closest language to Romanian? Sounds a bit Hungarian.
Viajero Romanian is a Latin based language and Hungarian is a uralic based language but the Hungarians had a big influence on Transylvania. The Romanian language does also contain words that sound similar to other languages. They say ciao for a short hello, salut for a longer one, merci for a short thanks (spelt mersi though). Apparently Italian, French, Spanish are closest to Romanian. Romanian is the only eastern block country with a Latin based language due to the early Romans.
