Schäßburg, der Geburtsort von Hermann Oberth, Godfather der Raumfahrt....
This was a cool Old Town. It's a World Heritage site, of course, with a well-preserved Romanian old town. Plenty of stone streets, a large square, and lots of towers still around the city walls. We arrived around 9am and spent the next several hours wandering around, before having a long lunch at one of the restaurants on the square.
Spent an hour or more chatting to a Romanian-American couple at the next table, because they had their two dachshunds with them. Was nice to chat to some different people for a change!
Finished off our filming in the afternoon and then just headed back home to chill. Our Airbnb is on the 14th floor of a tower block with a great view back across the town. Hoped to get some pizzas from the shop downstairs but as far as I could tell it was closed for a month! So I went to Kaufland and bought pasta instead, our old stand-by. Though neither of us were super hungry after our big lunch - I'd had Romanian chicken stew with mushrooms and onions, while Shandos had a dish of skinless sausages wrapped in cabbage leaves. Tasty stuff.Read more
There's no shortage of surreal citadels overlooking seemingly vacant towns below here in Romania. Sighisoara is said to be one of the most well preserved fortress cities in existance. It didn't disappoint.
Thats what most of Transylvania Looks like in that area. Close to where Dracula was born by the way. Sighisoara
