    Cicmany & Fackov

    December 19, 2019 in Slovakia ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Dale picked up the hired van to fit everyone in and we drove about 1 hour away to a small village filled with wooden houses decorated with patterns and symbols on the walls.
We then continued on to Fackov where we had a traditional Slovak lunch of Bryndza cheese on fresh sourdough - yum!
In the late afternoon Dale took us to the climbing centre close by that they go to and showed Guy how to climb the wall. Patrik and I watched on.
In the evening we walked around the small Christmas market and enjoyed the music of a band of Slovak group who played cimbal and violin.

    Next country - Slovakia

    June 28, 2020 in Slovakia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Our route started with a pretty steep climb: 450m of elevation gain within the first 10km. However, it was a remote forest road, the locals had drawn beer signs on the road for motivation and the view on top made up for the effort! We were in a little ski resort with cute wooden apartment houses and hotels.
This was also the point where we crossed to Slovakia - our first time in this country! After the climb, we were treated with a super nice 23km downhill ride on a paved forest road along a little stream. It ended at a canal which we followed until we reached Zilina. Here we stopped for lunch in the historical old town.
From Zilina, it wasn't too far to our campsite anymore. 10km along the canal again with tailwinds and another 10km on a busy road into a smaller valley. We went quite fast, as the Slovakian drivers are as crazy as the Czech drivers, so it wasn't too much fun.
When we reached the campground, we went for a bath in the cold river to relax our tired muscles.

    Camping Belá

    July 24, 2020 in Slovakia ⋅ 🌧 22 °C

Read more

    Wolfsschutz 1 - Traninslvalnien, Wölfe

    August 23, 2019 in Slovakia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

    Roadtrip

    May 15, 2017 in Slovakia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Today's roadtrip was through the Orava country side. We travelled over 250 km through Dolby Kubin, Trchova, Namestovo and Liptovsky Mikulas. We went to a remote village where the village people set up a mill in a valley to accommodate both valleys. The road was very ragged and one school was three km away. The mill is being restored and was incredible to see the joinery involved in the operation of the mill. There were free range goats and chickens on the property. We stopped off at one of Marienka's friends for a glass of wine and then headed to Turcianske Teplice. This is another spa town with healing waters for gastrointestinal problems. I drank a glass of the stinky sulphur water to keep myself healthy.Read more

    Harmaneska Jaskyna (cave)

    May 16, 2017 in Slovakia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Headed out for a walking tour up 1.5km to Harmaneska Jaskyna. The stallogmite cave was discovered in 1932. We traversed through the cave for 45 minutes and travelled down 850 metres. The air was incredible in the cave. Our guide cut the lights at one point of the tour to show how dark it was for the miners when the tunnelled through and their lamps went out. Some interesting rock formations were a lions head, witches face, three wise men and the Empire State Building.Read more
