      Buen Camino 🤗

A morning to Execute Plan B

      3 de junio de 2022, España ⋅ ⛅ 54 °F

      Humble breakfast in the morning...
It is quite late by the Camino Starts because last night Sanchez, Liz and I decided that we will take a taxi cab to Burgos because we all have different issues with our legs that are bothering us greatly.
So we are skipping the 21km hike and ride into town and then see if we can get some medical help.
So now we're just waiting for the taxi cab and I decided to take a couple of more pictures of the little village

      From village to village

      30 de octubre de 2022, España ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

I am in Santovia de Oca. Tbh, they all become one after a while, except the cities. Hunting season is on with plenty of dogs and hunters. Not really dangerous, but you can hear the shots and barking.

I came across a group of them twice and the proudly showed me midsized boar they got.

The walk itself was 36 km through forests with one knee wrecker section. Up down, up down..

Still thinking of last night's Paella. Oh yes, first rain today. Unpacked my poncho and stayed dry.

    • Belorado to Santovenia de Oca

      27 de septiembre de 2022, España ⋅ 🌙 7 °C

Today was a longer one, about 28km. Accommodation was scarce so the best we found to book was a bunk bed in a dormitory style albergue 3km off the Camino in Santovenia de Oca.

We started at 7am after an improvised coffee-free breakfast in our room. John’s headlamp was necessary till about 8am to see the path.

About 1 km out we were overtaken by our Swedish dinner companions from last night, Hans and Katerina. After a few sleepy villages we finally found coffee in Espinosa del Camino.

The path continued wide and flat to Villafranca Montes de Oca. From there it was a long and quite steep climb up to an altitude of 1150 meters.

Then it was about 12km through forest with no sign of habitation or cars all the way to San Juan de Ortega. We saw many signs warning us not to pick mushrooms, expressed in at least 4 different ways.

A sandwich for lunch in San Juan preceded an hour’s walk up the road to Santovenia. It is a nice clean modern albergue, with bunks in a dorm for about 12 people.

Lots of large fields of sunflowers were seen along the way, mostly harvested, surrounded by fallow wheat fields. Also a few sheep at one point.

After ablutions we had a beer in the courtyard out the front with a Pom, Steve from Manchester, traveling with his wife.

We enjoyed a good pilgrim’s meal in the albergue by the charming but overworked lady running the place.

Day 9 Belorado - Cardenuela Piopico

      5 de mayo, España ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

      35.8 km (270.7 km from start). 43.000 steps. 7 hours on the road. 2377 calories. 5.8 km/h

Great evening in Belorado. Best dinner until now: red beans soup (in Serbia - Pasulj), chicken from grill and chocolate mousse desert. Energy boost I really needed.

Early start, at 6.45am Perfect weather, not to cold, not to warm. Rain during the day but my gear is performing perfectly. Long part throughout woods, something I haven’t try that much.

No pain today, just a little bit at the end of the walk. I am enjoying my self and looking forward for another day, new places and more kilometers to complete.

Again walking alone. I need this, I enjoy solitude. Talked to my daughter today, talking to my wife every day. Not missing my day to day life - but I do miss my family ❤️

Staying at Santa Fe hostel. Private room with private bathroom. Luxury I haven’t tried before. It is ok but I definitely do not mind bunk beds and Camino spirit in hostels.

      Day 11 walking!

      19 de mayo, España ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

I survived sleeping on top bunk last night 😊 but couldn’t get comfy! It was also very cold, the radiators were on in the dorm and it was about 5 degrees this morning, think this area is quite high up. Also lady in dorm in wheelchair who broke her leg on 2nd day, she slipped on wet stones, her husband is carrying on and she’s getting taxi to next Albergue!
We left quite early this morning to walk the 14 Km into Burgos, initially along quite country roads, then around small airport and along the side of the river and through parkland into town. We’re having rest day here and spending two nights in cheap hotel (hooray no bunk beds!) and regrouping to plan rest of trip. Also just had lovely hot bath, my legs are not too bad but my feet have started to complain by the end of the day! Apparently Burgos has most beautiful cathedral in Spain!

      63. Wandertag

      Day 15: Agés

      24 de septiembre de 2022, España ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

We had a great 28 1/2 kilometer hike today, despite the drizzly gray weather that had us donning and stowing our ponchos more than once.

We moved faster and with more ease in the morning and in the afternoon than we’ve done before, proof that we are getting a little bit stronger every day.

My bottom bunk luck ran out today, however. We thought we were getting in to the Albergue Municipal Taberna de Agés on the early side, but all of the lower bunks in the dormitory had been taken.

Unlike other places we’ve stayed, this albergue doesn’t assign bunks, so we didn’t have our usual “stack,” where I take the lower bunk bed and Allan takes the top. At least the top bunk has a railing, which isn’t always the case.

Tomorrow we’ll walk 23 kilometers to Burgos, where we’ll take our first “rest day.”
