      Burgos

      8. Oktober 2022 in Spanien ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

We had a relatively short uneventful walk into the city of Burgos this morning. Through a couple of small towns, with nothing open early Saturday morning.

There are several "Camino" routes routes into the city, we chose the slightly longer river path. It was very nice dirt path next to the river. But it quickly grew into another Pedestrian/Cycling super-highway. About 6 kms of parallel cycling and walking jogging paths. Really cool.

We got to the hotel too early, so we walked around old town a little bit. Saw a church just out side the city gate, which was preparing for a wedding. Listened to the musicians practicing.

      63. Wandertag

      31. Mai 2023 in Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

😅😎🥱☹️Weiterlesen

      Day 15 Atapuerca to Burgos

      5. Oktober 2023 in Spanien ⋅ ☀️ 54 °F

From Atapuerca we had a bit of a rocky climb which leveled off at this large cross. We walked through a few small villages today, had a break in Cardenuela Riopoco...best tortilla so far. There are two routes approaching Burgos, the river route is the preferred way, but because of some construction it was not well marked and many of missed the entrance. The alternative was a long walk on pavement through the industrial outskirts of the city and the crowded downtown commerce area. The light at the end of the tunnel did not disappoint, as Kim had booked a room in the historic Norte y Londres Hotel. It is the oldest hotel on the Camino and has been beautifully restored and is located very near the Cathedral Santa Maria. We are spending an extra day here to explore the sites and rest the dogs.Weiterlesen

      26. Etappe: Burgos (20 km)

      22. November 2022 in Spanien ⋅ 🌧 4 °C

Ich hab richtig gut geschlafen! Sogar fast verschlafen!

      D16- Atapuerca to Burgos 20km

      29. Mai in Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

When we left Atapuerca this morning there was a chill in the air. We set off through the village turned left and started our climb. The track was a mix of gravel, dirt and loose stones/rocks. We made our way to the top and looking back we had a lovely view of the sunrise and the village below. There was a memorial at the top, a large wooden cross with a mound of stones around it that have been left by pilgrims as they pass through. We continued on this path and after about 4.4km we pass the village if Villalval but there was nothing open there so at the 5.8km mark came to the town of Cardenuela Riopico and found the most amazing cafe. There were spreads of bacon and egg baguettes, lovey chocolate croissants and other pastries. We enjoyed a bacon and egg baguette between the two of us and bought a pastry and croissant to take away for later. Continuing on after our late breakfast the dirt track stopped and we were now walking on asphalt, luckily there wasn’t much traffic. Apparently there was two ways to reach Burgos, one through the industrial area and the other turning left and following the river. Unfortunately we missed the left turn so we walked on concrete all the way to Burgos and to our accommodation. Very hard on the legs and very boring. We dropped our bags at the apartment and walked around town for a bit. After a shower we went to the Museum of Human Evolution. We spent an hour and a half there and thoroughly enjoyed it.Weiterlesen

      Day 11 walking!

      19. Mai in Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

I survived sleeping on top bunk last night 😊 but couldn’t get comfy! It was also very cold, the radiators were on in the dorm and it was about 5 degrees this morning, think this area is quite high up. Also lady in dorm in wheelchair who broke her leg on 2nd day, she slipped on wet stones, her husband is carrying on and she’s getting taxi to next Albergue!
We left quite early this morning to walk the 14 Km into Burgos, initially along quite country roads, then around small airport and along the side of the river and through parkland into town. We’re having rest day here and spending two nights in cheap hotel (hooray no bunk beds!) and regrouping to plan rest of trip. Also just had lovely hot bath, my legs are not too bad but my feet have started to complain by the end of the day! Apparently Burgos has most beautiful cathedral in Spain!

      27. Juli in Spanien ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

It was tricky finding the albergue because there were no street signs, had to go up a set of stairs, to the church, in the middle of wedding pictures being taken, and the albergue was tucked away beside the church, up on the hill. Carlos was busy sleeping when I arrived, then later watching the Olympics. I saw a glimpse of the opening ceremonies including Lady Gaga and Céline Dion. Carlos was more interested in watching TV, than he was helping his wife to look after the pilgrims. Quite a character!Weiterlesen

      To Burrrrrgos…Perspective

      7. Juli in Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 48 °F

I don’t only say Burrrrgos because it was so cold when I was walking today (first use of my fleece!) but because Lutz really liked how the Spaniards said it and would exaggerate it. 😆

I thought I’d demonstrate via photo how my delicious Camino breakfast can look. Especially with that back drop!

Yesterday was a wet walking day and today, as mentioned was cold. I was inclined to consider them both crummy walking days. Yesterday after the walk in Atepuerca I ran into Aisha (the Canadian that’s Conor’s age) and chatted briefly. Her take was that the rain was a nice change of pace from the heat. I found it surprising and interesting she had that take.

Today I walked briefly alongside a South Korean woman named Su-Jin (“Sue”). She is a producer for theater there. She studied in San Diego and worked briefly in Manhattan. She was between productions and finally, after 10 years, was able to do the Camino after watching a documentary about it all those years ago. She too thought the cold weather today was a glorious shift, despite being less dressed than I was!

Having both experiences back to back had me reconsider my own perspective. None were wrong, but theirs was certainly more positive. I also realized how influential their perspective was in getting me out of my more negative view.

That’s another reason why it’s so good to surround myself with hope-filled people. Mary would be the first to claim I’m a pessimist (I argue I’m a realist!). As Christians we should ultimately be people of hope. And I find it’s so much more helpful to me to surround myself with such hope-filled people. It has the ability to influence my own thinking and adjust my perspective.

      Orbaneja- Burgos

      11. September in Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

The final stages, as we headed into Burgos from our last stop it was all on roads, hard on the feet, and every other joint that wanted to join in, the guide said we would be able to walk along the river as we passed Burgos airport however the signage for Camino is non existent and your left just to follow your nose so to speak, needles to say we missed the path that would lead us across onto the river route as did many others leaving us to trudge along the main roads into the city this was far from ideal and not very nice, after 45 mins the vision of a bus appeared and on we got 😀 the bus took 15 mins to the city and was far better than continuing along the main roads - now to rest and be a tourist for a while.Weiterlesen
