About 22kms to Albergue Izarbide
A tough day, with lots of hills, rain and mud. It felt like much more than 22kms. However, we stopped in a few places along the way and (mostly!) enjoyed the journey.

The cow shed was probably way better than the train station.
It's fine, but not as good as it was in May.
A Spanish fella was complaining about too many walkers., he ytook time of unworkable and why is everyone else not at work!
Hello Nuala, we're planning to stop at Izarbide. We recall reading on Ivar's forum that there had been an incident here, and we were going to look for alternatives around the area. Should we just stay with Izarbide? Thank you for the great photos! Buen Camino!
Hi Andrew, I don't think there are any alternatives in that area. So, if you want to stay somewhere a few kms after Deba, this is the option. When I stayed there in May, it was really good and I recommended it to lots of people afterwards. Now, I would describe it as 'good enough'. Personally, I wouldn't be put off by the negative story on the forum. Perhaps wait until you reach Deba and then decide? Your body (and the weather) may dictate what you'll do!
