    December 27, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌫 -12 °C

Today I am off to Breckenridge. One to check it out and more importantly to try and get an Australian to US adaptor as we left ours in Aspen. Sandy very kindly let mum use her oxygen overnight as she couldn't use the cpap without the adaptor. Also mum is feeling the effects of the altitude more now.

Aspen is 2438 metres above sea level and Alma 3158 metres. I am also feeling it with a constant headache.

The drive is very pretty and Breckenridge goes all out with lights at Christmas. Lots of shops to look at and the houses are very cute. Its a very busy town as there are lifts/gondolas taking skiers straight to the mountains from town. This means parking can be scare and when the skiers come off the mountains traffic jams.

I had read up and knew there was a free parking area as you entered town not too far from the main street. There are also free buses taking you around town.

So had a lovely time looking around and the day went very quickly. Decided to stay until the evening so I could see the lights. No adaptor and I think I would have to go to Denver to get one so organised for a portable oxygen machine with the transaction being done in the carpark! Rang from the tourist office then met the ixgen guy in the carpark.

Then a 30 minute drive back in the dark through the overpass which has lots of hair pin turns and of course its snowing. Maybe I didn't think this through!

Thankfully the B&B is so lit up it could probably be seen from space!

    Breckenridge, CO

August 15, 2017 in the United States

Road trip in the Jeep from Buena Vista to Breckenridge, CO. Lovely drive up the Arkansas river, over mountain passes, passed by lakes and through old mining towns on the way. Some of Breckinridge seemed familiar, but it looks so different in its summer colours. There's so many more buildings since we were here 13 years ago. We rode the 'new' gondola from the parking lot to Peak 8 and which is completely unrecognisable as there's a huge complex there and more going up still. The base is a summer activity centre and was buzzing with people. We had lunch at the Tbar restaurant and then went back down and had a walk up Main Street. Drove up to peak 9 which looked familiar, but eerily quiet as all summer activities are at peak 8. Drive back via Fairplay completed the loop. Great day out.Read more

    The hectic day

December 23, 2017 in the United States

Today was the third day of skiing, and Ollie's first day out of ski school. After Lisa dropped Ollie, Steve, dad and me off at the ski fields, she got stuck in the snow about two minutes down the road from our chalet. Lisa then decided she wasn't going to drive us home from the ski fields. We went to Ollie's pub and grub for dinner and then Kelly lost her wallet and phone but thankfully she found them. At this point in the holiday we are all missing Storm and George.Read more

    2nd day skiing

December 22, 2017 in the United States

Today was a better day for skiing - and the frozen fog made it look like we were skiing inside a giant snow globe!

Ollie thought that his second day at ski school was better than his first day.

I went really fast down the blue run, Angels Rest, but I was in control.

    1st day skiing

December 21, 2017 in the United States

Today was finally the day I was waiting for - the 1st day of skiing. Ollie went to his first day at ski school. I stacked it 3 times, and one of them really hurt my shoulder and head... and also gave me a massive head ache that won't go away. After a long day of skiing, Ollie and I got in our nice warm hot tub... it was snug and cosy.Read more

    Yay, it's Christmas Day

December 25, 2017 in the United States

Presents, presents, and even more presents. Tonight we had a late turkey lunch, and we also tried out a new game we got called ANOMIA. I can also now say that I have skied on Christmas Day! Tonight we played on Ollie's new 2DSXL. After the skiing, Steve, Ollie and I went for a walk in the knee deep snow.Read more

I'm taking a day off at Breckenridge, not because I'm tired. I had a reservation at a hostle and I had to pickup a resupply package. This trail is easier than New England trails. I'm here one day early without pushing at all. I haven't been keeping this up to date, because the trail thusfar hasn't been particularly interesting. The good stuff is ahead. So, 7 days and 100 miles. Just 400 to go. The picture was the other day. I'm at around 10k feet. Reached 11800 two days ago. Rocky Mountain High. Limited cell service so sporadic updates.Read more
