• Moraira

    20 de janeiro de 2023, Espanha ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

We are now moving on to Moraira for the afternoon, we drove through here the other day and thought how nice it looked.
Again this town has a harbour and a lovely beach.
Right at the end of the town on a car park were several Motorhomes parked up.
We walked around the outside of the Castell de Moraira again looking at the statutes and then found a nice restaurant on the front where we had a late lunch sitting outside, not bad for January although it was getting a bit cool by the time we had finished.
Back to the car and home for a leisurely evening and to watch the match.

  • Xàbia

    20 de janeiro de 2023, Espanha ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Today we're taking the car to Xàbia a coastal town to the North of Altea.
The town has a harbour and a large beach but no town to speak of. The weather is sunny today with a slight breeze.
We walk along the sea front and as has happened so many times when we've been holidaying, we meet a fellow 'Baggies' supporter, so after the initial 'Boing, Boing' greeting we stopped for a quick chat. The couple had moved over here to live from Tipton about six months ago and they were loving every moment. Of course the upcoming match, which is on tonight, had to be discussed.
We left them with another hearty 'Boing Boing' and walked a little further taking in the statue of an unknown painter before stopping for refreshments and heading back to the car.
We then drove to the other end of the town where there were some really nice properties overlooking the beach.

  • El Castell de Guadalest

    19 de janeiro de 2023, Espanha ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

After lunch we moved on to Guadalest which is a very small village in the hills with a museum and castle. Apparently only about 200 people live there but in the height of the summer have thousands of visitors a day.
We walked around the museum which overlooks the Embassament de Guadalest a huge reservoir which is a beautiful turquoise blue colour. It was a lovely little town but being so high up it was very windy and cold.
From here on the photos will not be such good quality as I've just broken the camera.
There was a beautiful sunset tonight.

    19 de janeiro de 2023, Espanha ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

Today we're going to see the waterfalls at Fonts de l'Algar inland and up towards the mountains.
We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of water flowing down the waterfalls. There were also little ponds which you were allowed to paddle and there were people in the water. Martin put his hand in it and said it wasn't as cold as he expected.
We walked all around the paths and gardens and then had lunch by a swimming pool before moving on.

  • Beautiful Benidorm!!! We'll see.

    18 de janeiro de 2023, Espanha ⋅ ☀️ 10 °C

Well it's got to be done, we're this close we've got to go and check it out.
We're taking the bus as the tram station is quite a walk away from the town. The bus takes about 40 minutes to get there meandering through the towns on the way.
One of the big surprises on arriving at Benidorm was the number of camping and caravan sites, there were 4 along the same road.
We got off the bus as near as possible to The Balcony del Mediterranean, which is a scenic look out deck in the centre of the town.
We walked along Platja de Ponet beach first, the sand on the beach is lovely and fine and very clean. We then headed into the centre which is full of shops with sale's on, and restaurants we then went down to the other beach Platja de Llevant where we sat having a drink watching all the mobility scooters going by, single seats, double seats and even ones with seats side by side, I never realised there were so many designs.
The buildings here are huge, the tallest I counted was 32 stories, not my cup of tea
Before heading home we have tea and what do Brits in Benidorm eat, yes you've guessed it Fish and Chips.

  • A Day At Leisure

    17 de janeiro de 2023, Espanha ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

Today we are taking it easy. We are walking into Altea as there is a Market on.
After checking out the flea market and thankfully keeping our hands in our pockets we walk down to the sea front for a drink.
We then spend a leisurely afternoon back at the apartment before going out this evening for a stroll to the local Indian restaurant for one of the best Curries we've had.

    16 de janeiro de 2023, Espanha ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Today we took the car and headed to Call home of the large rock protruding from the end of the beach.
The weather today is not as good a full blanket of cloud and not as warm.
Well we walked along the prom, as you do, and then headed inland towards the old town.
Not as impressive as Altea. We made our way back to the car and stumbled across a supermarket complete with cafe so killing two birds with one stone we have lunch and top up the shopping. Bonus shoppers get 2 hours free parking and although we'd been to been there longer it didn't cost a penny.
Glad we decided not to stay here Shit rating scale 5.76 , that's Martin's score.
As least the sun has come out now.
We returned home for a leisurely night, did manage to get both sunrise and sunset today.

  • Exploring Albir

    15 de janeiro de 2023, Espanha ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Today we're having a gentle stroll into Albir which lies between Altea and Benidorm. We walked along the prom basking in the sunshine, it's shorts and sun tops today.
We walk passed the Marina and another batch of nice restaurants.
We're hoping to find a bar selling craft beers which Martin has read about but when we reach it there is no craft beer so it's a Guinness today.
The beach is accessible all along the prom but disappointingly it's a pebble beach and no sand.
After lunch we decide to catch the bus back but unfortunately we don't have any face masks so we have to walk back to the prom to find a shop selling masks. Items purchased and back to the bus stop in time for the next bus., cheap fares over here.
Meal in tonight as neither of us can be bothered to go out

  • Altea Old Town

    14 de janeiro de 2023, Espanha ⋅ 🌙 11 °C

After a good night's sleep and a leisurely breakfast we set out to explore the Old Town. Not quite such a steep climb as we thought and we took it steady stopping frequently to take in the view's. The Old Town is full of little streets and alley ways full of shops and bars and restaurants, not all are open but there is a good selection, Tapas and Italian food seems to be the main theme.
When we reached the top we went inside the beautifully decorated blue domed Church.
We make our way back down to the sea front for a drink before our Chinese meal and headed home, not quite 10,000 steps but not far off.

    13 de janeiro de 2023, Espanha ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Up early to fly on Friday 13th, we must be mad. Birmingham Airport was very quiet, checked in and through security in record time. We had a good flight not as bumpy as I expected and the time passed quickly. Again Alicante Airport was quiet, landed, through passport control and the baggage was waiting for us, straight to the car park and picked up the car in just over half an hour.
Arrived at the apartment and it was just like the pictures, wonderful view of the Old Town from the window..
We stroll down to the sea front for a drink and early meal then back for an early night. Plenty of time to explore tomorrow.

Nice steady run back home, but bugger me the road surface of our motorways are grim and noisy compared to anywhere in France.

    28 de setembro de 2022, França ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Up and out of Eyreux without problems and it's mainly motorway now after nippin round Rouen. They decide to spend a bob or two on the toll section around Bolougne to speed us up and we end up on the coast 20 mins from Calais on a great Aire by the harbour in Gravelines.
Tunnel booked for a 9.50 crossing tomorrow they ave a late lunch overlooking the many small boats in the harbour then set off to explore the town, the centre of which has Fort walls surrounded completely by a wide moat. It's a small but tidy little town to wander around. Finally back at the harbour herself gets a sunset she can capture, bless her. Home tomorrow, but I ay looking forward to the crowded motorways in Blighty after the quiet beautifully surfaced roads we have enjoyed everywhere . We need the French to teach us how to make, and maintain a road network, they ave been a joy on me feet I can tell ya.

On we go again.... about half way up the I diddle diddle of France now, easy driving but a fair time for him at me wheel. I'm runnin nicely though thanks to Uncle Kevs Redex Diesel treatment bottles! They decide to stop at the Aire right in the middle in Eyreux Town for the night, but it s a small one with only 6 places, and 30 mins away 2 of them have gone. It's a race to get there before anyone else?
Well we mek it and there's just 2 left with one motorhome waiting at the barrier phew!! After a cuppa they nip out to have a walk tound the centre and it ain't bad with a huge cathedral in the centre and a bit of water running through the centre of the town. Nice pricey upmarket shops to window shop, with assistants keeping a wary eye on himself hopin he ay gonna come in and lower the tone.

No signposts to aid us and old satnag ain't awake and tries to send us under a 2 metre railway bridge! Wot a great start, not. Soon we get back on track and we gerron OK, the roads am good and its sum nice undulating scenery as we trundle along. The plan is to do around 300 killies a day so we ay knackered. Weather kicks in a bit later and we park up in a quiet village aire fer the night. Free to stop, and they wander round a bit for a leg stretch as there's , a 12th century church here worth seeing, she does luv a church bless her. • Lisle dur la Sorgue

    24 de setembro de 2022, França ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

Awake to rain on me bonce, doh think much to it after all the sun we've had. Anyway they have a lazy morning and the forecast is spot on by 1pm all is dry again. So they hop on their bikes and pedal along the river to the town, known as the Venice of Provence. The Sorgue splits, and flows right around the town effectively making it an island with lots of bridges. Waterwheels are everywhere. some of them are turning with the flow of the River Sorgue. There are other inlets as well giving a nice feel to the town with restaurants lining the river, and the whole town is virtually traffic free, so all in all very pleasant. There are art galleries everywhere to poke around inside, and the centre square church is the stand out building of the town.
An obligatory beer was had before a peddle back along the river.
Well tomorrow we start the long journey north back home, but we are breaking the trip down into small stages each day, well, we are still on holiday!

  • Fontaine-de-Vaucluse

    23 de setembro de 2022, França ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

After Gordes we trundle off to another village which has the most powerful natural spring in France, and the source of the La Sorgue river. Again after the drought we were not expecting much, but what a, surprise. We park up next to the fast flowing river which is crystal clear and icy cold. Walking upstream they come to the village which is a bit touristy but nice, so lunch and wine are partaken to fortify them on their quest for the natural spring source.
Well it ay hard to find.... just a gentle stroll from the village past numerous shops, most of them closed for the season, and they arrive at the Gorge end and indeed find the water gushing out of the bottom of the steep cliff of vertical rocks, as advertised. Well worth seeing with the weeds at the bottom making the water a crystal clear green colour, rather nice.
An amble back and we mek the short trip to another camp site for the night just outside the town of Lisle dur la Sorgue, further downstream of the river source.
Now we am all bracing ourselves for summat called 'rain' overnight and tomorrow morning. Hope we survive!

  • Gordes

    23 de setembro de 2022, França ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Well we break camp early (for them) and weme off for the short drive to visit the hillside village of Gordes. This is one of the must sees in this part of Provence, honey stone coloured buildings clinging to the rocks, much used as film sets as the steep alleyways are medieval in character.
Well we park up again OK and they amble off, and straight way its apparent this is the destination of tour buses, mainly well heeled yanks and the shops and restaurants reflect it, its a bit out of their league. Also although the centre is nice, and the views across the Luberon valley are extrodiniary, the rest of the village is extremely steep with very uneven cobblestones and is hard going and very run down . So as the tour bus visitors never stray from the centre, there ay much to see, and they leave a bit disappointed. There is no denying though the vista of the village from the road is the best thing about Gordes.

We trundle up the hillside and park up at the bottom of the hillside village of Bonnieviux. Again typically the parking is free an even for a big lump like me very spacious. The old Frenchies really embrace and welcome us motorhomes, and rarely put up barriers to deter us visiting places of interest, unlike back in Blighty where they doh like us to stop and spend money in local shops, bars and restaurants. I'll just get off me soapbox now! They saunter off to visit this wonderful scenic time forgotten hillside village , but bugger me it ay arf a steep climb.! So they have to stop for refreshments, But again the views across the Luberon Valley is fantastic and worth their efforts. • Roussillon

    22 de setembro de 2022, França ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Well we are avin another day here at the campsite in Apt. But we am all off to ave a butchers at some of the typically Provence hillside villages.
First up is, Roussillon and its market day today so they am lovin that. This is also a place renown for its highly coloured ochre rocks and artisian shops and arty farty galleries. Parking up as usual in these villages is very easy, and they wander off round the very pretty village with fantastic vistas of the Luberon valley, and then tour the market before taking the trail out the village to see the ochre rock formations. Very nice they are but they abandon the trail as it gets very steep up and down in places, and they are both still struggling with their, ailments.
So they return to ave a bit of lunch before we trundle on along the quiet country roads with grape vines all around us to the next village they want to explore.

Well they're up and we are movin on, very slow and gently some of us. The plan is to move into Western Provence notably the Luberon Valley area. Olive trees, grape vines and more lavender fields, and villages that time forgot.
We first head north to skirt round Lac de ste Croix, one of the largest lakes/reservoirs in France, or would be but the drought has reduced the level considerably.
We then head west to Apt a sizeable town in the Luberon valley to a campsite only 300m from the town. After lunch they wander off for a tour of the town and ice creams.

Our mifi device drops in and out but we witness this once in a lifetime event and marvel at the pageantry which we excel at. Glasses are raised in a toast at lunch........ God bless her.
    Then it goes tits up......
Himself goes off to the swimming pool and is bubbling away in the jacuzzi when she sets out to follow him and trips on the uneven pathway, Down she goes and scrapes her knee, elbow, and wrenches her already poorly neck. Back to the van for medical attention. and ibruophen to help the pain. Thankfully not much blood but very painful. • Haut Provence villages (well 3 of them)!

    18 de setembro de 2022, França ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Hot and sunny and I am enjoying my break when they decide to go out and about today to explore. Luckily it ay too far, and the parking is easy. One good think about the French they love motorhomes and there is always facilities to park, usually at no cost, he loves that!
Villecroze is first, a small walled village with tiny alleyways, shafts of sunshine darting down, a lovely amble round. THE Cascades to a grotto lake are closed though, but the lack of rain probably means they day miss much.
Siilians is next, smallest and again water cascades from the hills but quite a walk to view, and again lack of water. So they have a lunch instead.
Last is Cotignac again very pleasant with quaint streets and alleyways. There is troglodyte caves up in the cliffs but its a good old climb in hot sunshine so...... nah.
Back to our site and a sit in the sun, we must be on a flight path so herself tracks all the aircraft overhead. Thanks Mrs Mc!

Today its market day in Aups, and they luv a French Market them two. So off they trot leaving me to kip. Well the markets great and they buy honey from lavender bees, Provencale herbs, fruit, and herself a cashmere scarf (great, it does get quite cool at night here!).
A wander round the quaint mediaeval town with narrow alleyways they visit a charcuterie and buy a home made lasagne and chicken , and the boucher man cuts them two nice slices of beef steak for their bbq later.
Lunch with a couple of beers and a stroll home for a sit round the pool. Luverley.
