Four couples embarked on a 7 night cruise on Unforgettable Greece then went on to Athens. The Boehms traveled with us from Italy, the Rogges came from Colorado and the Dentons from Illinois. Lue lisää

Only 40 people on our ship! The Boehms and Salemos arrived first. Darko, who was our cruise director in Croatia, was our cruise director on this Unforgettable Greece trip. So excited to see him again. Pietro, who handled our Croatia booking, was also on board. Rogges and Dentons arrived a bit later. We received a welcome prosecco and joined everyone at the back of the ship for cocktails and sitdown amazing dinner.

On the mainland of Greece and way south on Crete and Corfu were big storms forming, so Darko and the captain completely revised the itinerary (which happened a few other times during our trip) BUT we didn't have a cloud in the sky the eight days at sea!

We tendered into Kamares on Sifnos. Chuck and I did a four mile walk/hike from the port on this day and then grabbed lunch at a cafe across the bay.

Boehms and Dentons rented a car and drove to Kastro then came back to Kamares for lunch

There was a contest of pictures with the Unforgettable Travel water bottles, and Boehm's got a great one by the church.Lue lisää

Kimolos

We left Sifnos after lunch and headed to Kimolos where we spent the night. We were shuttled up to Chora, which means "old town" where Darko bought everyone on our ship a drink. Then we went to an amazing restaurant called Palaia Agora in old town before returning to the ship. Loved the old town feel of Chora.

Lisa's dinner was 6 euro (about $6.60) and included 1/2 liter of wine!Lue lisää

We sailed from Kimolos this morning to Polyaigos with the intent of swimming off the side of the ship; however, with the wind and waves, they decided to tender us to our own private protected beach. Mark got some great pictures from his phone while we were all in the water.Lue lisää

After the beach, we had a Greek dancing lesson. We circle danced then Bean and I both danced with Eva, our delightful bartender/pilates instructor. We had another amazing buffet lunch prepared by the Greek chef on board on our way to Milos. Not a fan of buffets, but WOW this was something daily that went way above our expectations.Lue lisää

When we arrived in Milos, we boarded a private bus to visit their famous beach called Sarakiniko which looks like a cross between Lake Powell and Moab. Then onto the old town where we could explore for awhile before returning to the port town for dinner. The restaurant, Nostos, was on the water it got a bit chilly so they gave us blankets. We were allowed to go in to view what type of fish they caught that day.Lue lisää

On our way to Santorini, we had a cooking lesson put on by our chef followed by a tasty lunch. With 40 in our group and 16,000 of our best cruiser friends from other ships in port, we arrived at Fira. Most everyone waited about 1.5 hours in line to take the tram up to the top. Some of us hiked (Chuck and I) and others took donkeys up the path. It took us about 25 minutes to go up leaving us about an hour to have a drink at the top while the others joined us.

We boarded a private bus to go to Oia which is where the iconic white buildings with blue roofs are. Then we went onto a winery for a paired tasting.

Dinner was on our own back in Fira (which is good because Oia was packed). We ended up at the bottom of the hill at a restaurant that was owned by our chef's cousin. He treated us to shots, and we ordered a light meal.

There were plans for Name that Tune but instead, there was a huge party on the back of the ship starring Mark Denton.

Note: I tried to take a picture depicting the dark blue water (see last one on this post) but it truly doesn't do the Aegean justice!Lue lisää

St Anna Beach - Naxos

After traveling from Santorini, we arrived at my favorite island of the trip - Naxos. First we did a beach stop at Agios Anna. Darko recommended that we go this beach bar because if we spend 30 euros on drinks, we could use their beach chairs. Darn - more day drinking....Lue lisää

Naxos Tour

After the beach, we boarded the ship to head toward Naxos Port and had our fantastic buffet lunch followed by a port talk by Darko. Upon arrival, we boarded a private bus - first stop was an olive oil farm where we had an introduction on the history of olive oil in Greece. Then we had an olive tasting in their tiny shop. I ordered olive oil ice cream which was ok but probably wouldn't go out and buy it. Off then to the mountains where we saw huge marble quarries and ended at an ancient marble statue from 650BC. After that we went to the old town of Chalkio which is the home of Kitron, Greece's answer to limoncello. After roaming the old town and having a nice cocktail, we returned to port and had dinner at a local tavern. Naxos was hands down our favorite port in Greece!Lue lisää

After sailing early this morning, we anchored off the coast of Delos, an unhabited island. Delos is considered one of the best remnants of ancient Greek living in Greece and mythological birthplace of Apollo. In three square miles, over 30,000 people lived on the island back in 1 BC which is the center of Cyclades Islands.

Boehms and Dentons took the tender to explore the site.Lue lisää
