Exploring East Africa

What a wonderful city. We had a great day of sightseeing, shopping and visiting w a friend of Jensy's from their Peace Corp days.... long time, best of friends.

More local attractions - going to the Cape of Good Hope. Penguins in our future! We meet up w our Expedition folks Monday eve and off we go on Tuesday to visit more sights and board the Explorer - which we will call home for the coming days.

What a beautiful day today in Capetown and beyond. We left early this morning on a tour to see African Penguins and visit the Cape of Good Hope which is part of the Table Mountain National Park. Both sites were fabulous and as much a s anything I enjoyed being on / near the waters edge.... a clear theme for me. After a quick visit to see the penguins, many of whom were minding a nest of eggs, we were off to the Cape of Good Hope. We got to stand at the most south west point in Africa for a photo and then see some seals resting rocks in the Atlantic. The surf and sun were fabulous.
We then went to the lighthouse at the Cape and rode the funicular 585 meters to a path leading up to the Cape Hope lighthouse (1859)

We then had a very scenic ride back to Capetown along Chapman's Peak which is one of the world's most scenic drives. Ck youtube.....

This afternoon after a late lunch we parted w Jensy's dear friend Monica and met up w our tour group for a reception and supper. Met some characters for sure. More sites tomorrow, board ship tomorrow eve and will then have one final day of sites-seeing here in Capetown.もっと詳しく
