    2023年6月20日, ポルトガル ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

So happy to have finally landed! After a long 22 hour journey, including almost missing my last flight 😅, I finally made it to meet the gorls ❤️❤️. Arrived at our airbnb late at night, and spent the first night there eating tapas, and having late night chats on the roof!もっと詳しく

  • Lisbon Day 2

    2023年6月21日, ポルトガル ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Long day of exploring and seeing what Lisbon had to offer. Immediately started the day off with some Gingigha, a cherry liqueur, which I don’t think I really like, but someone so kindly got us 4 chocolate ones. Tried Portuguese tarts, they were DELICIOUS!!!! Try em with cinnamon, would recommend. Bought 2 pairs of shoes. Went down to the water, seems like they have a little festival kinda thing going on around the city so that’s cool. Then we decided to take on the town and check out Pink Street, leaving the house at 12:49am 🤭🌙We got extremely side tracked and made many pit stops along the way, but me and Kes made it to Pink Street, not quite into the clubs, but just met and chatted with some lovely people outside the bars. Somehow ending up at home in time the watch the sunrise.もっと詳しく

  • Lisbon Day 3

    2023年6月22日, ポルトガル ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

So much exploring today. And crazy amount of steps taken today. Hit the Fado museum and learned about the beautiful and soulful history of Fado music in Portugal, which originated in the Alfama (dubbed Alfalfa) district of Lisbon. Lots of just walking around and admiring the lovely architecture. We also went around the Alfama district a bit but it seemed to be ‘siesta’ time, where most places are closed between 2-5pm. After this, we went to go see the Castle of São Jorge. I still don’t really get what it’s about, but I think it was like a defence lair or something. The views at the top were to die for, and it was cool to explore. Later at night we went to the little festival that was conveniently 3 minutes away from our place. Opted to share piña colada in a pineapple, which is so extra but we are extra. We returned to Pink Street with the goal to DANCE and we did exactly that. We became besties with the DJ and he let us dance on elevated surfaces and let us wear the DJ headphones 😁 Later, me and Ailish ventured to find bread for the next day’s breakfast. We went into a bar to ask for some help from the staff in finding bread at 2am, but the bartender so graciously sold us some bread- BAR BREAD!!!!もっと詳しく

  • Lagos Day 1

    2023年6月23日, ポルトガル ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Just arrived in Lagos! After getting a whopping 4 hours of sleep, we headed to the train station (my first train!!!) where I slept for pretty much the entire train ride. We got here and its hot, real hot. A quick (but felt long) 15 min walk to our AirBnb and after some resting we went to check out the beach. The one that we went to was about a 30 minute walk away, which felt a lot longer in the sun. Surprisingly, the water is pretty cold, refreshing, but not so much my speed. I hung out more in the shaded area which is surrounded by a tall wall of rocks, and slept at the beach for like an hour. Later we went to the grocery store where I saw this huge watermelon (as pictured) and we went home for dinner. Lately we’ve been eating copious amounts of bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Ailish made us delicious fish with risotto and veggies 😋 We wrapped up the night with a messed up episode of Black Mirror that left my jaw dropped the whole episode (S6, E2).もっと詳しく

  • Lagos Day 2

    2023年6月24日, ポルトガル ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

A nice chill day spent pretty much entirely at the beach! We went to a little market at the beginning of the day, and I bought a cute sundress! A few sunburns on everyone but it was really relaxing, and a nice change of pace. I got to catch up on some sleep which was really nice :-) At the end of the day, we had a couple of drinks and met up with some really awesome new friends- funnily named Ethan and Chris which offered a homey sense of comfort 😂! Lots of dancing as always, and watched the stars at the beach to end off the night. Do it all again tomorrow!もっと詳しく

  • Lagos Day 3

    2023年6月25日, ポルトガル ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Todayyy i had a long sleep in and we spent lots of time relaxing at the beach, while Kseniya was out surfing! I did some actual swimming today and let my hair get wet, the waves weren’t too intimidating to swim in today! I tried this Brazillian(?) drink that Ceci recommended, and we went to the town to get some ice cream before heading home. After some sangria and improv, we wanted to go eat some real Portuguese food for dinner. Unfortunately the restaurant that we were wanting to go to was fully booked for the day, so we planned to go there tomorrow! We settled for €4.50 donair to end the night.もっと詳しく

  • Lagos Day 4

    2023年6月26日, ポルトガル ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

The jetlag has really been hitting me, I’ve been having some trouble getting to sleep at night, so I slept until like 1:30 today, but it was much needed. After eating a quick lunch I went out to do a little walk/hike/trail thing on my own, the girls went to do it in the morning but I wasn’t up to it then. I didn’t go very far because it is a long walk (they ubered home from the end), so I only went about half way and turned around. Went back into the town and did a bit of shopping and window shopping, then got me some more ice cream 🤭 we then headed out as a group to get to that dinner place, ‘the garden’ and each had a grilled fish platter, and had some port wine. After dinner, Kseniya proposed that we do a “night cap,” but somehow that turned into drinking games with new friends and a long night of dancing and fun!!もっと詳しく

  • Barcelona Day 1

    2023年6月27日, スペイン ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

Today was more of a travel day than anything- the most brutal travel day, that is. After a very short sleep, we had to catch the 7:15am train to Tunes (before catching the train to Lisbon).……. too bad it was CANCELLED because there is a train strike in Portugal. We ended up taking an uber to Tunes and got to catch our train back to Lisbon from there. I slept for literally the entire train ride (time travel) and we went to the mall to kill time before having to catch our flight to Barcelona.

Side note, last night literally less than 24hrs before we were supposed to check in to our AirBnb, they cancelled the reservation, so in a hassle we booked a hostel, which worked out just fine, but it was a small sidetrack.

Back to the story, it’s TACO TUESDAY at taco bell and that means 1€ tacos so I had that for lunch. We went to go watch a Wes Anderson movie in the mall, which I totally slept through as a result of being super exhausted and still jetlagged. I thought that the way that it was filmed was very beautiful though. We caught our flight shortly after, which I also slept entirely through. Made it to our hostel in a jiffy and guess what… it’s TACO TUESDAY at the mexican restaurant across the street so I ate more tacos for late night munch.

  • Barcelona Day 2

    2023年6月28日, スペイン ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

A very eventful day. We had a much needed sleep in and did some laundry. While that was going I did a small solo exploration just walking around and found an asian market and got wasabi peas! Met the girls again and headed out for a long day of walking. First went to eat some delicious brunch where I had an açai bowl and then we went to see various sites and also complete some chores. We walked through the gothic quarter which was beautiful, and stopped in many stores along the way. Ate some churros and passionfruit gelato 😋😋. The first church lookin thing is the Cathedral of Barcelona, the second site was the Arc de Triomf (not to be confused with the Arc de Triomph in Paris), and the last was the Segrada Familia. After our looooong walk we went back to the hostel before dinner where we got some 🎶empanadas🎶 after that, Jaya and Neesha came over to convene with us before going to the club. We also went with our hostel mate, Elena from London, who is the sweetest girl ever! We had lots of fun and unexpected moments, but made it home in one piece.もっと詳しく

  • Barcelona Day 3

    2023年6月29日, スペイン ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

After a short sleep and a quick debrief in the morning, we went to eat a hearty breakfast at “ByKate” where i got a NY Bagel which consisted of smoked salmon, avocado, cream cheese, and chives. After we embarked on a long walk and stumbled upon an antique market along the way. Further on, we decided that it was only fit that we saw the Barceloneta (the Barcelona beach), so we did a nice one hour walk over there. At that point it was only appropriate to share some Sangria with our friend Elena by the beach (first image) in a cute little spot called Makamaka. After that we took the bus home, which is very slow here. Honestly walking would take only an extra 10 minutes. I almost fell asleep on the bus home. We had a short rest at our hostel, then went to get some late night tapas for dinner. This is farewell, Barcelona!!もっと詳しく

  • Bonnieux Day 1

    2023年6月30日, フランス ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

Travel day!! In which i dread greatly. Unfortunately the train that the group booked was sold out by the time that I got to it, but also i saved 50 bucks on a reservation so it’s alright. My first solo train ride! Which i slept and scrapbooked for most of it. 7 whole hours 😭😭. First was a 3 ish hour train from Barcelona to Cerbére, which lies right at the border of Spain and France, then a 4 hour train from there to Avignon. The original plan had been to stay at Ailish’s family home for our time here, but unfortunately there was a microscopic spider issue so it was no longer suitable to stay in. However, we got to get a tour of her village and of her home as well! It was BEAUTIFUL! And her neighbour had majestic horses (which i took 1 billion photos of) and beautiful farmland. One of her neighbours helped in giving us a place to stay for the night, which was hot (most of the places were built in the 11th (?) century, so they don’t have air conditioning). So many wild cats around that are soooo cute. For dinner, we shared some pizzas with her parents, which was sooo yummy. Oddly, most of the town closed early since it was a chilly evening so it was a struggle to find somewhere to eat, but i was more than satisfied with what we got.もっと詳しく

  • Bonnieux Day 2

    2023年7月1日, フランス ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

Had a nice sleep in, and started the day off with a game of hearts and I shot the moon and won!! We then went to meet Ailish’s neighbour, who is a local cherry farmer. We learned about his crazy cherry machine called the Cherry Vision 2, which stems and sorts cherries by size and colour by taking 7 images of each of them. Super cool. We then went back to the town of Bonnieux for lunch where I ate a croque monsieur. After I had some yummy lavender ice cream, and we walked around the town and went up to the highest point where you can see all of the farmland and lavender fields! While waiting for the grocery store to open we shared some wine, and then once is was we spent time with the cute grocery store dog! After we went back to Ailish’s for a short while before heading over to our other accommodation which we will be at for the remainder of our stay. Her parents hosted a lovely Canada Day dinner party, and then we went to one of Ailish and her sister’s friends’ place for her birthday party, and headed home later in the night.もっと詳しく

  • Bonnieux Day 3

    2023年7月2日, フランス ⋅ 🌬 28 °C

Today was not eventful whatsoever. Slept in and spent the day in the sun by the pool. One thing I will say though, is that the mosquitoes out here are RUTHLESS!!! I’ve gotten bit 10 times already, since arriving yesterday!! Watched 4 weddings and a funeral (the movie) and off to sleep i go 😴😴😴もっと詳しく

  • Bonnieux Day 4

    2023年7月3日, フランス ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

Woke up with crazy hair and had some pain au chocolat for breakfast. Spent hours at the pool soaking in the sun and the last moments of being in an Airbnb for the next 6 weeks! We made a stop at the grocery store, where Ailish’s dad gave me great lessons on every aisle and food that we picked up along the way. We went back to the town of Bonnieux (we’ve been staying in Avignon) to go to the evening artisanal market and I bought a little pocket of lavender for the road to keep my company. We stopped by the Babicki-Moore home one last time to pick up some things and then made our way back to the rental. We made orzo salad for dinner and had long chats over aperol spritz’, rosé, and champagne to end the night. Doing some last minute packing now to get ready for the road…… and the solo trip commences!!!!もっと詳しく

  • Milano Day 1

    2023年7月4日, イタリア ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Travel day 🤮🤮 woke up after like 2.5 hours of sleep and got a ride from Slaylister (Ailish’s dad) to the train station in which I mentally prepared for the next 8 hours, and 1.5 months for that matter. I took the TGV (speedy train) from Avignon to Lyon (1 hour), then a train from Lyon to Genève (2 hours), and lastly a train from Genève to Milano (5 hours). You know, they charge you to use the bathroom at the train stations?! I paid €1 to use the toilet. Once I got on that last train, it was so nice, for about 4/5 hours of the last train, nobody was sitting next to me, so I had spaaaace, but a lovely old man did sit next to me for the last hour but he was very sweet. But oh boy, the views on the last train ride was to DIE FOR!!!! The train ran in between the mountains, so the views were insaaaaane!! There are lots of pictures included.
Once I actually arrived in Milan, it was hot, really hot. Being me, I didn’t feel like paying for transit so I toughed out the 22 minute walk to my hostel, where my back soon became drenched in sweat. After a nice shower, I went to get some pizza and sat in the park with my hostelmate, Joanne, who is an about-to-be-policewoman from Hamburg, Germany. We got eaten alive by mosquitoes, and then went to get a drink at a cute outdoor seating restaurant, where I tried a hugo spritz. We walked around for a bit then went home for the night, im POOPED!!!! Now it’s raining, lighting, and thunderstormy out😵‍💫

  • Milano Day 2

    2023年7月5日, イタリア ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

31,000 steps today. Enough said. I walked and walked and walked and sightsaw and did all the things today! One thing about Milan is that every building is an art piece- the architecture is a sculpture in itself, it’s beautiful. My eyes were never on the ground. I saw many ‘palazzo’s’ which were just nice buildings- but every building was a nice building. I went into the church of San Gregorgio which was smaller, but the thing about churches here is that they are filled with sculptures and artwork, it’s literally a museum.
After some of that, I walked through two parks- one of which had a water turtle home which was so cute. After more walking, I met up with one of my hostelmates- Blanca (who’s birthday is also October 6th😆) who is an 18 year old girl from a small town in Germany (she said it takes 8 minutes to walk across the whole thing). We had some pizzas and then parted ways. I went to use the toilet next door, just to find that it would not be a toilet…
After, I went to see the Sforzesco Castle, which honestly, was mostly ugly. After, I headed over to the main attraction, the Duomo Milano Cathedral which was big and beautiful. There were insane sculptures and stained glass images, each of which told stories of rich history. Now, I’m not really Christian, but I could really appreciate the the art and craft of the church. The pictures do not do it justice whatsoever. Fun fact, it took about 600 years to complete. Also- i did my university course registration in the church LOL
After 8 hours of walking, I felt that it was time to head back to the hostel. I met my new hostelmate- Aleksandra, from Estonia, and three girls from Paris, in the kitchen. Blanca very kindly made me some pasta for dinner, and everyone else was making pasta too (is this a disgrace to Italian food?!). We shared wine, music, and stories until we got kicked out of the common space at 12am. We had the bright idea to continue our antics and try to find a bar, but Milano is a DEAD CITY, and everything closes so early. We went as far as to bus to the lone club that is open til 5, but there is no way that im paying €25🙄🙄. After searching for a motive for about 2 hours we gave up and headed home.

  • Milano Day 3- Como!

    2023年7月6日, イタリア ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

At this point, I kind of felt like I saw everything that Milan had to offer, saw all the sights and all the big things. So, I decided to take a day trip out to Como and see what it’s all about. Now, I booked my train on the morning of, and left my hostel at 11:25. My train was at 11:43 and it was an 18 minute walk (not including the time it takes to navigate around the station and find the platform. So i RAN, to the station, and probably looked ridiculous. There was no time to spare, and I made it onto the train with 2 minutes to departure 😭. After a quick 40 minute train, I arrived. It was raining this morning, but luckily the storm subsided by the time that I got to Como. First stop was food. Naturally, I looked up “best cheap food Como” and landed upon a sandwich shop called Passion Como. My experience was amaaaazing! It was a family run build-your-own sandwich kinda thing and it was so good! I was greeted at the door by Danny, the 9 (?) year old son of the owner and I went for a prosciutto, spicy tomato sauce, artichoke, mozzarella panini. And it was amazing. Danny was also amazing, and we chatted lots about bugs, the dirty lake, and video games. A1 marketing for having him at the door. I even felt inclined to get myself an aperol spritz because I was so happy to be at this sandwich shop!
It was a pretty chill day spent strolling, admiring the scenery. I took photos for other families, individuals, peoples and was heavily praised because apparently i am a great photo taker LOL😎. I got some gelato- strawberry and lemon, which was so refreshing, and just walked around the town of Como. Later on, I took the funicular up to the town of Brunate, which was a 7 minute ride. To be honest, up there wasn’t much, just like, rich people houses. But the view was amazing, you could see Lake Como and all of the neighbouring towns! There was this one church up there, which was creeeeepy. I don’t know what it was about it- the music playing when no one was there, the excessive artwork, idk. The art was extremely beautiful though and I could appreciate it, but it was so overwhelming, the amount, that it was kinda scary. After a bit more exploring in Brunate, I headed back down the funicular and made my way back to Milan. I stupidly forgot to charge my portable charger so by the time I made it back to my hostel I had 1% to spare 😝. I got some pizza again for dinner, and later drank wine and went to go dance with some new friends from Paris- Véra, Catherine, and Irene :))

  • Florence Day 1

    2023年7月7日, イタリア ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

I was very tired when I woke up this morning but off i go to the train! Today I made sure that I gave myself a good amount of time at the station, and boarded on. Slept thru the whole ride, and arrived around 12:30. I went to the hostel to drop off my bags because I couldn’t go to my room until 3. I went to get some food and again, of course searched “good cheap pasta florence.” Because i actually hadn’t gotten any pasta since being in Italy! I came to this quaint, decorated restaurant for lunch where it was €10 for bread salad, truffle mushroom pasta, a glass of wine, and water. It sucked to be honest. The noodles were thick and kind of hard, more like shanghai noodles. Idk i didn’t really enjoy it. I walked around for a bit but it was sooooo hot. Like 32°C. So I had to hide from the sun, back in the hostel. But I checked the weather app and it’s only getting hotter, like up to 38°C so i better suck it up. Back in the hostel I met one of my roommates, Jin, a 19 year old from South Korea who is headed to the military in September! We bonded over being Asian LOL. After a nap we went to get dinner, where the portion was so small😭. But we were sat next to Abellan, a Spanish man who has been living in Florence for the past 3 months to complete his Master’s! We shared our meal together and had lots of laughs and conversation. Got some good local suggestions as well! Unfortunately he couldn’t stay long because he has to submit his masters thesis (?) on Sunday. We caught a glimpse of the sunset before heading back to the hostel. Later we went to buy some wine but they apparently don’t sell alcohol past 9pm. We had to go to one of those little markets and paid €15 for a bottle…. 🙄😞😭. We met a group of many people downstairs by the pool bar area and headed to a club called Red Garter, which actually was also a recommendation from Abellan! Made some more friends there who were from the States. In the end, the night was something…. IYKYK.もっと詳しく

  • Florence Day 2

    2023年7月8日, イタリア ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

After a much needed sleep in, i set out with honestly no plan. But something that I’ve realized is that it’s much better to plan, so that I can accomplish more in the day. Anyways, I followed the big dome thing and found myself at the Duomo Florence Cathedral. And that was crazyy it was huge and beautiful and amazing. Decided to check out this famous sandwich shop- All-Antico Vinaio. It’s like a focaccia sandwich thing with like truffle cream and it was huge! And yummy, although to be honest, it was difficult for me to stomach any food after last night😭 also I accidentally bought sparkling water today instead of still and i was so mad cuz i hate sparkling water. After this, I went to get some gelato and it was soooo good. This and the sandwich shops were both recommended by Ailish, so I trust them. But I got mango and lemon, and something about the mango one was soo smooth in texture, it was delicious. I’m gonna go back tomorrow. I kind of just wandered around for another couple of hours and stumbled upon the Palazzo Vecchio (Florence town hall) and the Loggia dei Lanzi (a gallery of statues!). It was craaaazy and even more so that I wasn’t even looking for it, just found myself there. My favourite is definitely the one holding the ripped off head. After this, I went back to the hostel because my phone was dying, and I was dying of heat. I napped for a little while, and then met Cole, a dude who does business consulting, who I’d met last night in the hostel, and Kira, a biomed-psychology student from Florida (originally, Richmond, Virginia 😆) who typically takes 8 courses a semester- not right now, but shes over in Florence on an exchange semester. We hung out for a bit, drinking wine by the pool bar area and then moved up to the roof terrace which had lovely views! We then decided to go eat dinner at a restaurant that was suggested by two guys we met downstairs and it was yuuummmyy. We went family style and shared a steak, some carbonara, and wild boar pasta. Went to quickly check out the market across the road and called it a night from there.もっと詳しく

  • Florence Day 3

    2023年7月9日, イタリア ⋅ 🌙 31 °C

It was a very relaxed day. It was soooo hot so I couldn’t really bear to walk around and do sightseeing. I met up with Cole and he was with 3 girls from Cincinnatti- Emily, Maddie, and Rheme, who are graphic design students taking a trip together. We went to the market where we got some food. I went for asian food LOL because I’m just missing it so so badly. It was alright, and of course would not live up to the Vancouver standard. It was reeeeeally hot today, got up to 38°C….. to make matters worse, the pool from our hostel was closed. We went to another hostel to use their pool which was much nicer anyways, and was on the rooftop. We hung out there for a while and cooled down in the pool which was much needed. After that, we had to bid Cole farewell because he’s heading off to Rome. We dropped him off at the train station and then hung out in the pool area and rooftop terrace of our hostel. After a little while, I said goodbye and went back to my room where I met my new hostelmate. After, I was going to watch the sunset at the famous lookout, but there was no way that I would make it in time, because it’s a 45 minute walk, and there was 20 minutes to sunset. So instead, I stepped outside and followed the sunset to see where it would take me, and I found myself in this lovely little park that had a pond in the middle. They also had a small fair kind of thing going on, with Italian comedians(?), drinks, and food. I grabbed some delicious gelato (which was only €2.80 for 3 flavours!!) and watched the show, which I completely did not understand because it was in Italian. After that, I went back to the hostel where I went to heat up my leftover sandwich from yesterday. While I was doing that I met some of the sweetest Aussie girls- Madi and Carys (pictured), who I hung out with for the night, meeting some other friends- Georgie, Saran, and Rosie, who I ended the night chatting with.

Feeling grateful and happy about how kind and open so many of the people that i’ve met on this trip have been!! 💗

  • Florence Day 4

    2023年7月10日, イタリア ⋅ ☀️ 37 °C

I did not mean to walk this much today 😭 this is the most steps that I’ve taken yet! And the longest day out. Each day I usually stop back at the hostel to get a shower and A/C refresh, but idk it didnt make sense based on the things that I wanted (?) to do. So it started with the plan to go to the market and try the handmade pasta downstairs. It was lemon olive oil ravioli and it was delicious! After, I headed out on the same route as Day 2- past the duomo and the goal was to go to the same gelato place cuz it was so good, but then i forgot about siesta time and it was already closed :( so then I went back around to the statue gallery loggia dei lanzi because I didnt have food this time- so i could go walk around and look at each statue. After I kind of just kept walking and decided that it was better to stay on this side of Florence because I was wanting to come back around sunset anyways. So i went to the boboli gardens- stupidly during the hottest time of the day and i was SWEATINGGG. It was cute though, and was nice to see some plants and botany. After that, i headed over to the infamous Piazzale Michelangeo for sunset, but more for pre-sunset. It was very beautiful, and overlooked the entire city! As i was walking back I caught the sunset while walking the ponte alle grazie. Later, I went to a karaoke bar with friends and took some photobooth photos!

  • Naples Day 1

    2023年7月11日, イタリア ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Took the train to Naples today which was a brisk 3 hour journey. To be honestt Naples wasn’t necessarily what I was expecting, although I didn’t know what I expected to begin with? The driving here is insanee and there’s not many crosswalks 😭😭 like the cars will stop for you but it’s still scary. It’s a bit dodgy all around, but I always would make my way around with others. After a sweaty walk to the hostel I met one of my roomies; Emily, who’s in a gap year and just was an au pair in Germany which is coool. We went and explored the city centre. We got some famous pizza to start, which was a simple split marinara and margherita pizza. Around here they don’t even cut the pizzas in slices so u gotta rip em apart. After, we went and looked at the small cute shops, where many were selling little trinkets and handmade dolls. I kept seeing this pepper symbol 🌶️ which i learned is a symbol for good luck around here. We went to go see the coast line which was gross and yucky water. Caught glimpses of some churches and other landmarky things along the way and went back to the hostel.
Now, at this hostel at 9pm the nana that owns the hostel makes pasta dinner for everyone, and everyone will usually eat around the big table in the garden. Unfortunately, nana made pesto tonight 😭😭😭 so I was left without dinner. But, another person at the dinner table was keen on getting pizza, which was perfect (besides the fact that pizza is the only thing in my system for the day). His name is Janik, and he’s from Switzerland and has been biking around Italy!! Like he biked most of the way from Rome to Naples 😨. Anyways, we ate our pizza and then called it an early night- which I needed because I did not sleep much the night before.

  • Naples Day 2- Pompeii

    2023年7月12日, イタリア ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Today, me, Emily, and Janik took a train to go explore the town of Pompeii. We went to the ruins, which are remnants of a village that were wiped away by an eruption from the nearby volcano- Mount Vesuvius. I did some research, and this town was built around the 9-8th century B.C. The city was covered by a blanket of volcanic ash which is how it was preserved so well. There even were people that were preserved- who had died in this town at the time. Kind of creepy, but really interesting. There was a lot of art that was preserved from that era- still found in the buildings on the walls, and also bits and pieces in a separate exhibition. There were coliseums, amphitheatres, restaurant kitchens, laundry baths, it was so interesting! And i’m not usually one for history. After a looooong time spent in the ruins, the scorching sun (and of course, a gelato later), we went to climb Mount Vesuvius itself. Which, I don’t know if it was a smart idea because walking around in the heat for 4 hours is tiring already. But off we went. We had a tour bus that would take us up most of the hike (which I very much appreciated), and it was about a 30/40 minute walk to the top. You know, it kind of just looked like a big rock with a hole- which I guess is what it is, but it was still cool. The view looking outward from the top was nice, with mountains and shoreline, I couldn’t complain! After, our tour bus ‘surprised’ us and took us to some dude’s limoncello shop. So we had a tasting of his limoncello, this liquer that he created which is a mix of limoncello and mozzarella, and one that is a mix of rum and mozzarella. Surprisingly, I actually really enjoyed the mozzarella shots- would definitely have it again. After that, we trained on home, had some aperol spritz and I had some gnocchi for dinner- which I was craving for this whole trip!!もっと詳しく

  • Naples Day 3

    2023年7月13日, イタリア ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Woke up early today in hopes of going to the Amalfi Coast, or Sorrento, or anywhere with a beach and water, because we were craving a good swim. Unfortunately, there was a national train strike, so no trains were really going anywhere. We just went to the train station anyways, and planned on taking anything that was available. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much- and the ferry options were out of our budget. So we sucked it up and just went to the local Naples beach, which isn’t thaaat nice, but was nice enough so that we could get some time in the water. We used the public bus to head over and the beach overlooked Mount Vesuvius and the castle. We spent a long time relaxing- me, sleeping, and hate some pizza for lunch. Later, Janik went on his own bike tour on the coast, and me and Emily headed back towards the hostel. We took the metro, which was just like a big train- honestly the nicest train i’ve seen yet. We got back to the hostel and went to a laundromat to do our laundry because I haven’t done any since before Italy, and all of my clothes were sweaty. After, I ate Nana’s beans with pasta (?) for dinner which was interesting. After, the hostel had a little game of movie-themed pictionary, and I had the chance to meet and chat with some other people in the hostel. Later, we went on our hostel’s pub crawl, where Nana drove the shuttle to take us to the bars 😭😭💗. The bars were…. Interesting, and were more like tourist trap vibes lolll. Me and Emily ordered something that they made sounds really fancy like- roasted bread with pecorino cheese. And IT WAS LITERALLY JUST CHEESY TOAST. I could have made this for a significant fraction of the price I paid 😭😭. The club was also just dead, I was really tired- me and Emily both fell asleep in the club 😇 we took the shuttle back soon after…. and this is farewell, Italy!! CIAO!!!もっと詳しく

  • Corfu Day 1

    2023年7月14日, ギリシャ ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

I guess this is like a half Naples half Corfu day. I had to check out around 10am, and said goodbye to Emily as she left to spend the next 3 months in the UK! I kept my bag at the hostel and just went to walk in the city to kill some time. It was scorching hot as always, and I didn’t really know what to get up to. Naples doesn’t have a whole lot to offer in my opinion, and I didn’t have enough time to try for a day trip either. So yeah I kind of just wandered around the city centre all day. Stumbled upon a market that had heaps of clothes- I had to hold myself back from buying anything, knowing that I would regret filling up my bag anymore, but it’s always fun to search anyways! I stayed for a while in this cute café and had a pulled pork sandwich as my last meal in Italy LOL. Went through the cute figurine shops once again bc I can’t get enough of them! Had a final Italian gelato and headed back to the hostel. After a sweaty 30 minute walk to the airport, I made it and flew off to Greece! As per usual, I never seem to get much sleep on the last night before a travel day, so I slept for the entire plane ride. I got the shuttle from the airport to the hostel and chatted with a dude named Matt on the way. I arrived around 11pm, and I was confused on how to get to my building. To be honest the walk was scary😭 because it was dark, and I was down by the beach building so it was further down from the reception building. Luckily, I ran into a girl named Andra, and she helped direct me to my room! After, I decided to head over to the bar, which is in the same building as my room. Although I was tired, my logic was that I had no clue how I would meet people if I’m just lounging on the beach, so the bar was my best bet, and I was so happy that I went! Andra was there, and I sat down by two girls from England- Amber and Nieve who were the nicest girls ever! They’re each 17, and on a little girls trip for the summer. I taught them how to take their first tequila shot LOL. I hope I’m not a bad influence- but I know that they’re reading this, and wouldn’t say that I was.
Side note also, everything at this hostel is PINK- as per the name- The Pink Palace. The interior, exterior, tables, pipes, you name it!
But yeah, excellent intro to Greece!! 🇬🇷
