Day one: Our feets hurt and we are definitely tired - the first day is going to be over! In a few hours our aircraft is waiting for us to bring us to the states. 🛫🗽 The last hours in Germany, the last hours in Europe pass away. Very exciting! 😇

Day two: Chicago you got me back! ❤
After a long flight we arrived in the USA. First we directly get to know our room mate Andy from Santa Barbara. Afterwards he joined us to explore the city. It is the 4th of July and the whole USA is celebrating. On the street you see nothing than people. Beside the Independence Day the Navy Pier turned 1.000 - and we joined the party! 🖖🎉🎆

Day three: The last day in Chicago is over. Tomorrow we gonna pick up our rental car.
Today we just walked thru the city, enjoying it and ate some Chicago food. Also there was a free Chicago festival called “Taste of Chicago“. So in the capital of festials you definitely shouldn't miss this!

Day four: Today we picked up our car and started the roadtrip. After a 9 hrs ride we arrived at the Mall of America - sweated, tired and ready for bed. But first we had to buy our camping stuff there. The interstates didn't really look that American so far. More than the German Autobahn. But: We did it - First step! 💪

Sioux Falls

Day five: The next step is Sioux Falls. On the way we had lunch at our first diner and found my hometown (see the photo below). After an 4 hrs ride we arrived exploring the Falls Park and visiting some churches. We also met our first Indians that recommended a campground for us to stay. The funny thing about that is that this is a campground for famillies with children 🙈 And - really strange - they celebrate christmas in July. (As joke because the kids cannot wait for it 🎅).
We got very kindly neighbours so we hanged with them on their campfire eating marshmallows. 🍢

Badlands

Day six: At the beginning of today we visited an old cowboy town near Sioux Falls. A small rebuild village with buffalos as well. At the shop I got nice looking stickers of all states I've been or I will be.
Afterwards we continue to a two hrs ride to an Indian Resort. Just one word: Wow! From now to then the nature changed dramatically. We such crossed a lake and boom! No more green, just ocher gras and an awesome landscape. It looked beautiful!
Then we started our last stage. On this ride we saw about a million ads for Wall Drug. So we just decided to have a look at this. Wall is a cowboy town and the Drug Store sells souvenirs of that.
An Indian told us that they hate Custer and that they celebrate their Independence Day when Custer died. In Wall they glorify him.
Very interesting history!
The Badland NP we didn't see today at all. We will do it tomorrow's morning before we get to Black Hills.

Black Hills

Day seven: The first week is almost over and it was such a blast! Today we started with exploring our first national park - the Badlands. There you can feel the force of nature, it's amazing. Also we saw some wild animals like sheeps 🐑, prairie dogs 🐿 and - the best is comming at the end - two bisons 🐂🐂! Foxes live there as well but we didn't see them. But we heard them in the morning.
After leaving Badlands we took a road off (what fun! 😈) to Rapid City. There we visited a trade fair for oldtimer. It was that nice! 🚗
Back on the road we went to Mount Rushmore Memorial in Black Hills and afterwards to Hill City for eating something. We found a nice looking restaurant and chose it for rest. I tried a burger with buffalo meat and national beer from Black Hills. Both were very tasty! 🍔🍺
When we was done we tried to find a campground and found one at Center Lake in Custer State Park.
At the end of the day we got to know new campers sitting on the campfire, just hanging. But I was really tired so I fell asleep very quickly.

Day eight: We such hiked the wonderful Sunday Gulch before we continued our ride to Devils Tower 🏞 That Trail was recommended by a camper we met at Custer State Park and it was that worst it!
Afterwards we had a "short" ride to Devils Tower. When we arrived there we found nothing than the tower but it is really impressive! We such saw the Devils Tower and flat land around it. It was created when magma inside the ground was frozen and an earthquake put it to a 867 feet hight.
In the evening we met some rangers at our campground we talked to.
