Half a day in el calafate

    November 21, 2019 in Argentina ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

We arrived here after a very early get up at 5.30am to catch our flight for el calafate ... (the place where icy treks happen!) So we had just half a day here before our 5hr bus to Puerto Natales the next day. We decided to chill, have a beer ( a few!) and some empanadas (fried bread pastries yum!!)Read more

    Along Lago Argentino

    January 27, 2018 in Argentina ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

The 4 of us walked about 2.5 kms from the hostel to Laguna Nimez. It turned out to be quite different than what we had imagined. It was a wet marshland next to the Lago Argentino but the park was not like an ordinary city park. It had an entry fee and timings. We reached there around 8:15 pm. It was closed by then. The entry fee too was quite steep. We could see tge flamingos in the distance bit there was fencing all around. We decided to come there the next day.
Having nothing else to do, we decided to go for a walk along the Lago Argentino. It was extremely windy and quite cold along the shore. We walked for a few kms and then decided to get back into the town where it was much warmer and quite less windy. We had our dinner at one of the restaurants on the main street and then went back to the hostel to sleep.

    On the Road

    January 20, 2018 in Argentina ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

We have hired a car. A white Geely sedan (never heard of them either) which Louis has christened 'lolly' (!). Runs fine, though she tends to pull right at random moments. Driving on the right also takes some getting used to but no mishaps so far.

Have driven back into Argentina to visit the El Calaphate glacier. Have covered about 250km today through the Patagonia desert. Roads are paved but in complete disrepair. They also get noticeably worse the literal moment you cross the border into Argentina from Chile.

At the border we were subjected to the least comprehensive security search in history. Guy had a quick glance in my bag and decided Louis' didn't look worth searching. Too busy dealing with the other non-existent travelers behind us perhaps.

Currently parked outside the Mako Fuegos restaurant. They have great Wi-Fi and their open network stretches to the car.

Pics: (1) The view for miles; (2) Lolly; (3) The featureless desert.

Wenn man aufwacht und so einen Blick hat

    December 23, 2016 in Argentina ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Read more
