      PNN Los Nevados 3 - Manizales

      Sonne am Morgen. Schöner Blick übers Tal. Ich keine Kopfschmerzen mehr. Flo immernoch. Santa Isabell Vulkan und Gletscher 4800. Nebeliger Zauberwald Aufstieg. Regen zum Mittagessen bei der Laguna den Ōtun. Flo am Ende. Langer Matschweg zum Ausgang.
      Mit Jeep 1,5h zum Restaurant, toller Tropenwald. Florellen und Rotwein zum Sonnenuntergang. 1,5h später Ankunft in Manizales. Großes trockenes Hotelzimmer mit warmer Dusche.      Read more

      Day 15

      A random day in Manizales

      Laura: We got up and had a gorgeous breakfast provided by the hostel. we weren't sure what to do so we went for a wander in the local area. Jesse and I bought really gross ice creams from an old man who was so sweet and very grateful for our purchase. He held my hand earnestly as he gave me the change. We then jumped on a bus (transport of the day) and attempted to find some lunch. We stumbled across a restaurant in someone's garage and ordered some aluermezo (lunch) - soup, rice beans salad and some chicken. I ate as much chicken as I could stomach. It was super tasty though! Just not used to the 🐔

      Next up, we walked down the hill to the eco parque. With not a soul in sight,we went for a wander down the unkept paths. Soon enough we came across a snake. The second snake of our trip so far. Almost every walk we've been on, we've seen a snake. We had to run away and back track down the path we came. It took some time for Jesse's legs to stop shaking.

      (Jesse): Thinking that was the end of our day, we headed back to the hostel via the shop with the old man who sang a lovely song whilst we had a cold drink. Alas, we were so hot we needed to find somewhere for a dip. Back out we trogged to the bus into the centre of Manizales... Nothing to write home about. On to another bus and out to PNN Los Nevados, a beautiful national park, just past the cities recycling plant... Despite how it sounds it's gorgeous. We wandered up a dirt track and dip in the river, having a wee tinny, we are British after all. We then headed to the Termales, where we bathed in sulphuric water, to our hearts content. Much nicer than the previous ones!

      We skooted back by bus, ending the trip with our 6th of the day. Such a cool city, with 8 microclimates reminiscent of Sheffield, so close to the national park.      Read more

      Zwischen den jubelnden Massen sich auf der Straße mitfreuen. 🎉 So stellte ich mir vor das WM-Finale zu erleben. Ich pokerte mal darauf, dass Argentinien gewinnen wird, es einige Argentinier 🇦🇷 hier gibt bzw. mehr Verbindung als zu Frankreich da ist und es einfach abgehen wird. Leider wählten wir ein zu ruhiges Viertel aus, welches nur bei Nacht belebt ist. Trotzdem war's ganz nett in der Sportsbar, die einigermaßen besucht war. ⚽ Das Spiel war echt spannend und auch die Beobachtungen der immer mehr betrunkenen Zuschauer.

      Danach gingen wir in einen Park, der kostenlose Führungen anbietet. 🌳🌿 Die Führerin war cool drauf und erzählte viel über die Bäume und Pflanzen. Der Park ist richtig schön und wild. 🥰Seit 5 Jahren dürfen dort auch nur noch native Pflanzen angebaut werden. Es gibt richtig viele Vögel hier - später sollten wir viel Glück haben und einen ganz besonderen dieser Region bestaunen. 🐦 Er ist so schön grün-blau und hinten sind seine Flügel in zwei ganz schwach verbundene Teile unterteilt. Allgemein sieht man die meisten Vögel eher in der Früh.
      Jader ist ja, wie viele Kolumbianer, die absolute Quasselstrippe und fragte sehr persönliche Fragen die Führerin. 😅 Alle sind immer gleich hart am connecten - vor allem, wenn sie aus der gleichen Region kommen. Auch einfach nach einem Kaffee zu fragen ist nichts freches. Man darf auch in Restaurants oder Bars selbst mitgebrachtes Essen aus einem anderen Ort mitnehmen. 😆 Das einzige Traurige im Park: der durchführende Fluss wird mit fast komplett ungefiltertem Abwasser der Stadt mitbespeist. 🙈 Trotz alle dem, und der zentralen Lage, wohnen hier viele weitere frei lebende Tiere wie zum Beispiel ein Stinktier oder ein Agutis (großes Nagetier), welche wir auch zu sehen bekamen. Alles für mich das erste Mal live und wild zu Gesicht bekommen ✨

      Abends waren wir an einem Aussichtspunkt auf die Stadt. Ringsrum wunderschöne grüne, bergige Landschaft - das ganze kolumbianische Haupt-Kaffeeanbaugebiet. 🥰 Der Sonnenuntergang war toll und es war angenehm viel los. Die Stadt an sich ist mittelgeil: viel Verkehr, die Straßen recht labyrinth-artig, alles hügelig/steil und abends wirds recht kalt. Gut, dass wir hier mit dem Moto sind und nicht den Bus nehmen müssen.😅      Read more

      From the big temperature changes and a quite cold night in Salento I got a cold, wich I felt the first morning in Manizales the most.
      Around noon I could push myself outta bed though to go and see the city.

      I walked around without big plan or research, so I landed in a favela like area where I found a gondola wich brought me to the top of the city.
      The view was amazing because you could see all the neighbourhoods from above.
      Arriving the top and at the most commercial part, the city was pulsing there with lots of people, shops and restaurants.

      When Miguel finished work, we went for dinner at a market hall. Next morning I took the bus at 6 o clock to Medellin.      Read more

      Manizales

      Manizales was rather a stop over for us on the way of Salento as it's one of the three cities which makes the coffee zone triangle. Haven't seen much of it, apparently not even that nice but the surrounding areas are beautiful, it's part of the Andes, at 2000 meters high. (We even go some head and neck pain not sure if it was 'cause of the altitude.) So on our full day there decided to leave the city for a hot spring bath which was 15 minutes away. It was super relaxing there, the whole 2 pools were just ours for a while and even after just a couple of people appeared. Mountains all around, colourful flowers, interesting trees and plants and we even saw humming birds. We spent the whole day there, in the morning it was sunny and by the afternoon it started raining but it was actually cool like that 'cause the water was super warm and it just looked awesome how the big drops fall into the pool from these massive leaves above us.Read more

      Manizales ist eine (bis dato) noch sehr unbekannte Perle inmitten der Kaffeeregion. Ich bin eher durch Zufall hier gelandet und sehr froh darüber. Die Stadt ist total schön und sehr überschaubar!

      Eines der Highlights war die Führung durch die Kathedrale. Ein Guide hat uns die Historie nähergebracht und uns bis an den höchsten Punkt begleitet. Wie man auf den Bildern erkennen kann muss man teilweise auf der Außenfassade entlang bzw einen sehr steilen Korridor mit orangenen Stufen bezwingen. Nichts für schwache Nerven!
      Das verrückteste daran war, dass es in dieser Kirche ein Cafe gibt - sogar mit WLAN. Sehr ungewöhnlich aber total schön!

      Als Belohnung für den anstrengenden Aufstieg habe ich mich in eine der zahlreichen heißen Quellen gechillt. ♨️☺️

      Obwohl die Stadt nur 400.000 Einwohner hat ist sie dank der 14 (!) Universitäten und unzähligen Studenten sehr lebhaft. In einer Bar gab es zahlreiche deutsche Biere - natürlich auch das Erdinger Weißbier. 😎😜      Read more

      Manizales

      Next stop Manizales. On the first day we visited Nevado Del Ruiz, an active volcano. A bus took us up to 4500meters but we couldn't go any further as it would have been dangerous going right to the top. Unfortunately there was a lot of fog but when at the very end it settled and we were able to see some great views. On the way home we visited a hot spring - definitely a highlight for cold water-hating me.
      The next day the plan was to visit a coffee farm, then carry on south to stop off in Pereira for a night before continuing our journey. I was 10 minutes into the bus journey before I realised I'd left my passport back at the hostel. Luckily we were with a worker from the hostel at the time so agreed to carry on with the coffee farm tour and go back and get the passport after. The coffee farm was great, we spent 3 hours there exploring and learning all about coffee. We basically learned that even if you pay for 'top quality' beans, it's probably all a lie, so I will stick to my Nescafé instant for now. After the coffee farm it was a short 3 hour detour to go back to the original hostel, pick up my passport, drive past the coffee farm again and eventually arrive in Pereira. Bed time now....       Zwischenstopp Manizales

      Auf unserem Weg Richtung Medellín machen wir einen Übernachtstopp in Manizales. Sie ist zwar eine recht große Stadt, aber uns gefällt es hier überraschend gut. Vor allem der Ausblick übers umliegende Land ist prächtig. Natürlich gefällt uns aber auch die Fahrt mit der Seilbahn über die Stadt wieder hervorragend. Ein weiteres großes Plus hier ist das leckere und unfassbar günstige Mittagessen, für das wir zusammen umgerechnet nur knapp 3 Euro bezahlen.Read more

      Колумбія, звісно, відома своєю кавою. І нам так не терпілось її спробувати. Коли випили її в цій країні вперше в якійсь забігайлівці, я подумала, що напевно я просто не дуже знаюсь на каві, але вона смакує жахливо. Особливо коли замість нормального молока додають порошок. Але недавно ми дізнались чому воно так.
      Манісалес, Перейра і Арменія - міста так званого кавового трикутника, кавова зона. Хоча каву і виготовляють і на інших територіях, аж до кордону з Еквадором, проте ці міста найвідоміші. Ми вирішили поїхати в Манісалес - найбільше з них, хоча відгуки про всі були хороші. Манісалес вважається, до речі, найкращим місцем для життя в Колумбії. Нас попередили - люди тут надзвичайно привітні. І це правда - до нас деколи підходили люди, щоб попередити, щоб ми були обережними і дивились за своїми речима. А ввечері нас один чоловік пригостив пивом і колумбійським лікерем. Він просто сидів і пив сам, бо його покинула дружина, яку він досі любить. І йому напевно потрібна була компанія. Він виявився дуже приємним і доброзичливим. І взагалі люди тут люблять просто так знайомитися на вулиці, щоб просто розпитати звідки ми, що робимо і куди прямуємо.
      Манісалес же виглядає так, ніби розташоване десь в Альпах. У Крістофа аж туга за домом з'явилась 😀 Тут ми нарешті зробили тур на кавову плантацію, де нам розповідали про історію вирощування кави, показали плантацію і процес виробництва кави та жарки кавових зерен. Тут ми спробували кавові плоди на смак (вони солодкі, до речі) і необмежено пили добру каву 😃 Колумбія - єдина країна в світі, де каву вирощують цілий рік, у всіх інших - лише в певний сезон в році. А все через унікальний клімат і умови. Це, до речі, є причиною того, що тут кокаїн теж дуже добре росте і протягом цілого року (ну і інша причина - східна Колумбія взагалі не заселена через ліси Амазонії, тож є можливість вирощувати подалі від людських очей).
      Так що ця унікальність - як плюс країни, так і її недолік.
      Крім того, нам пояснили чому звичайна вулична кава така несмачна. Все через те, що вона поганої, найнижчої якості. Справа в тому, що хорошу каву країна в більшості експортує. І держава гарантує, що ця кава найвищої якості (на останньому етапі в спеціальній лабораторії каву тестують). Таку каву теж можна знайти в Колумбії, але не всюди. Якщо кава в 10 разів дорожча, значить добра :) Дешеву і не якісну каву випускають на внутрішній ринок для того, щоб зробити її доступною для населення (вона коштує 20 центів десь). І її просто підсолоджують, щоб заглушити поганий смак) Взагалі колумбійці великі любителі солодкого!
      Отак моя маленькая мрія здійснилась - дуже хотіла побувати раз на такій плантації.
      Наступного дня ми погуляли по місту і поїхали в термальні джерела. Дуже було все гарно там, я аж забула, що в Колумбії- таке враження, ніби десь в Європі. Ну і люди були європейської зовнішності в основному. Правда, вода на смак ніби лимонна - досить кисла.
      Плавати серед гір ввечері - дуже красиво.      Read more
