      Die Hafenstadt Guayaquil

      Der erste Eindruck, der mit Abstand grössten Stadt des Landes, war nicht besonders gut. Die Strassen sind laut, es hat einige Obdachlose und die Häuser wirken alt und heruntergekommen. Der Grösse- und Sicherheitshalber nehmen wir oft ein Taxi von A nach B. Wir schlendern etwas durch die Altstadt und anschliessend der Uferpromenade entlang. Das buntbemalte Stadtviertel Santa Ana ist mit Abstand das Schönste. Am nächsten Tag heisst es Abschied nehmen von unseren Reisegspändli Melanie und Nélia, die beiden reisen zurück in die Schweiz. Wir hatten eine tolle Zeit zu viert und können auf viele schöne Erinnerungen zurückblicken. Für uns geht die Reise wieder im Doppelpack weiter. Wir beschliessen noch zwei zusätzliche Nächte in der Stadt zu bleiben und gönnen uns ein schönes Hotel. In diesen zwei Tagen haben wir die üppig grüne Insel Santay zu Fuss erkundet, im Kino den neuen der König der Löwen geschaut und natürlich den Hotelpool genossen. Nun reisen wir der Küste entlang bis nach Quito.Read more

      Our first stop in country no. 7 was Guayaquil, the gateway city to the galapagos islands at the westcoast of Ecuador. We didn‘t know much about Guayaquil and only chose it because it was the cheapest destination in Ecuador to fly to from Bogotá - We only found out at the airport that Guayaquil is said to be one of the most dangerous cities in Ecuador 😅 Luckily enough, our hotel was located right at one of the „safe zones“ for tourists, so we had around two to three blocks where we knew we can walk around a bit without getting in trouble - even though we don‘t know how bad it really is in Guayaquil, we were not eager to find out 🙃.
      All in all, it was a good decision to only stay for one day, as the city really has nothing to offer apart from a viewpoint (which we did not do), a cablecar across the river (same as above) and a really big, really crowded and really overrated river promenade. So: If you go to Ecuador and if possible, skip Guayaquil ;) We were quite happy to depart by bus, finally off to the mountains of Ecuador for some altitude acclimatisation and trekking!       Wir schlendern noch ein bisschen durch die Stadt und entdecken viele schöne, alte Gebäude. Ausserdem entdecken wir per Zufall entdecken wir einen Park, der voll mit Schildkröten und Leguanen ist. Wir beobachten ein bisschen die Tiere und gehen zurück ins Hotel. Am Abend treffen wir uns mit Simeon und Annina, die sich ein anderes Hotel ausgesucht haben. Wir essen zusammen und reden über die kommenden Tage auf den Galapagosinseln.Read more

      Llegamos a Guayaquil 🌉

      Después de muchas horas de viaje llegamos a Guayaquil sobre las 3am y vamos directamente al hotel para descansar.

      Increíble el cambio térmico entre Quito y esta ciudad. La temperatura ha subido más de 10 grados y cuesta pensar que hace unas horas estábamos temblando de frío y ahora tenemos encendido el aire acondicionado de la habitación. Este hotel (GH Alexander) es el mejor alojamiento hasta ahora 👌🏼

      Malecón 2000 🎡

      Comenzamos el recorrido por el Malecón 2000, la mayor obra monumental de Guayaquil en los últimos años y nos impresiona bastante.

      En él hay exposiciones, esculturas, zonas verdes, parques, heladerías, atracciones, restaurantes y hasta un centro comercial, todo con vistas al río 😃

      Lo recorremos casi hasta el otro extremo y después nos adentramos en el centro histórico de Guayaquil. Primero visitamos el Parque Seminario 🦎 y nos sorprendemos mucho con los reptiles que viven allí entre la gente.

      Caminamos por las calles laberínticas del centro y nos sigue impresionado el CAOS que es la conducción en este país. Solamente cruzar una calle es un espectáculo, en algunas ni siquiera hay semáforos ni pasos de cebra y por supuesto, los coches siempre tienen preferencia antes que los peatones 🥲 no puc mes

      Hay calles que son un circo con ventas de todo tipo y confirmamos que todo el mundo nos ve como turistas, sobre todo los taxis que no paran de pitar por si queremos subirmos en uno de ellos 😅 no paran, no paran, no paran #TeamUber      Read more

      Edgar picked me up a bit after 8am to bring me to the airport. While saying good bye, he made it very clear to contact him for *anything* if i run into problems on the rest of my trip and passed on warm regards from his wife too. Sweet guy.

      Flight was only an hour to guayaquil which is about an hour drive from the ocean, so wanted to spend a day here before exploring the coast. Being close to sea level makes a world of difference. Its stinking hot and humid, but I'm not complaining - bring on the heat! But i have to be careful. The sun is ridiculous here. 15 mins without sunscreen will scorch the skin.

      Spent my day popping in and out of all the downtown cathedrals and strolling along the massive waterfront boardwalk (malecon) which is littered with amusement park rides, restaurants and kids play areas.

      The old town is a really cute hilltop area next to downtown with narrow cobblestone lanes and restaurants and tiny hotels around every corner. Reminds me tons of a hilly greek island village but with vibrant colours instead of white and blue. There are 444 steps to reach the top. I started counting, but then noticed around step #20 that each step had an engraved plaque.

      The heat and humidity here is on another level. All you do here is sweat. I could have used an ocean to jump into. Hopefully Tomorrow!      Read more

      Gleich nach dem Frühstück kaufen wir noch einen Panama-Hut 👒(in spanischsprachigen Ländern auch Jipijapa) ist ein handgeflochtener Strohhut aus Lateinamerika, dessen Fertigung im 17. Jahrhundert in Ecuador begann und sich dann allmählich verbreitete. Er wird aus dem feinen, sogenannten „Toquillastroh“ des Scheibenblumengewächses (Carludovica palmata, auch „Panama-Hut-Pflanze“) hergestellt und ist nicht zu verwechseln mit dem traditionell in Panama getragenen Pintao.

      Wir waren direkt in der "Fabrik" bei Ecua - Andino Panama Hats.

      Holger hat sich 2 Hüte und ich habe mir 1 Hütchen gekauft.

      Für alle - so wie wir 🤫 - die es noch nicht wussten 😳, Hüte👒 werden immer an der Krempe angefasst und dann aufgesetzt und abgesetzt - nicht in die Mitte fassen, das ist falsch! Wenn in der Mitte des Hutes 👒ein Schaden entsteht, dann kann man den nicht mehr reparieren!🛠️⛏️🪚⚒️🔨🔧⚙️🔩

      Wir waren gerade noch im El Museo del Cacao, das ist nur 1 Minute zu Fuß vom Hotel entfernt!

      Lustig ist, daß die👒 "Hutfabrik" hier im Hotel einen Verkaufsständer hat! Die Verkäuferin haben wir gerade wieder getroffen! 😂

      Wir konnten die Farbe des Hutbandes selbst auswählen und das wurde dann direkt angebracht!

      Ich bin gerade, kurz vor dem Boarding, ausgerufen worden! 😳Die Dame hat mir dann mitgeteilt, dass es sich um eine ganz normale 🧳Kofferkontrolle handelt. Ja, natürlich, was sonst! 🤔🏈
      Also wurde uns die Tür 🚪ins Treppenhaus mit einer Sicherheitskarte geöffnet und dann ging es in den Keller. Ok, es war das Untergeschoß mit großen Fenstern mit Blick auf die Flugzeuge✈️. Wollen wir es mal nicht dramatischer🫢 machen, als es war! Dort waren übrigens auch noch mehrere andere Passagiere🧍🏽‍♀️🧍🏽🧍🏾‍♂️🧍‍♂️. Ein Asiate👲🏻 hatte ganz viele Zigaretten🚬, Pilze🍄, Energie Pulver💪🏼, usw. in seinem Koffer. Kleidung 🩳👖👕habe ich keine gesehen.🤷🏽‍♀️ Als ich dann an der Reihe war, habe ich direkt meine Kakaobohne "aufgedeckt" 🏈, was soll's.
      Der Kommentar von dem Herrn👮🏽‍♂️ war: "Cacao"😋. Im perfekten Spanisch habe ich dann: "Si", geantwortet! 😂. Er ignorierte die Kakaobohne 🏈und suchte zwischen meiner Kleidung👗👙🥽👚 ca. 0,99 Sekunden weiter. Ich musste noch unterschreiben📝, das war es! Der Schokoladen Produktion steht jetzt nichts mehr im Wege! 😆      Read more

      We visited a cacao museum, learning about the progression of how this top commodity was traded. From natives, to pirates and wealthy farmers. "White City", is a beautiful cemetery founded in 1823, and grown to 15 hectares. Presidents, famous historians, but also locals are resting here. They believed the more art and creativity that went into their tombs and mausoleum's the better chance they had of reaching an after life. Many famous artists were hired to work here. A funny and massive monkey statue is a tribute to a local famous children's book.Read more

      Guayaquil ist eine Hafenstadt in Ecuador, die als Tor zu den Pazifikstränden und den Galapagosinseln gilt. Am Ufer des Río Guayas verläuft die Simón-Bolívar-Promenade mit dem Denkmal La Rotonda. Das Viertel Las Peñas im Norden ist bekannt für seine zahlreichen farbenfrohen Häuser. Von Cafés und Kunstgalerien gesäumte Stufen führen auf den Hügel Santa Ana, auf dem sich eine gleichnamige Kapelle und ein Leuchtturm befinden. Von der Hügelkuppe bieten sich Ausblicke über die Stadt.

      Da unser Hotel direkt am Malecón 2000 ist, sind wir dort entlang gegangen. Der Malecón 2000 befindet sich in der Stadt Guayaquil neben dem Guayas-Fluss und ist ein Stadterneuerungsprojekt des alten Malecón Simón Bolívar mit einer Länge von 2,5 km, wo Sie die großartigen Denkmäler der ⏪Geschichte Guayaquils wie den Hemiciclo de la bewundern können Rotonda, Palacio de Cristal, MAAC, Gärten, Brunnen, Einkaufszentrum, Restaurants, Bars, Food-Courts, das erste IMAX-Kino in Südamerika sowie Docks, von denen aus Sie Boote für Tages- und Nachttouren auf dem Guayas-Fluss besteigen können und Aussichtspunkte und andere Attraktionen.🎡
