      Cherbourg > Port-Bail-sur-Mer - 100km

      Pas de chance au réveil, le pneu de Bastien est à nouveau dégonflé, nous sommes sur une crevaison lente, il part avec sa roue dans un atelier vélo.
      Résultat : problème réglé ! Mais nous ne partons qu’à 10h30 de Cherbourg pour une journée de 100km et 1500m de dénivelé positif avec les vélos chargés.
      Direction La Hague, la partie Nord-Ouest du Cotentin : les paysages sont grandioses et nous avons un temps magnifique. Nous commençons par le Nord avec un littoral de couleur ocre et jaune et une mer azure. Les jeux de lumière sont superbes. Nous continuons jusqu’au phare de Goury, un environnement très minéral. Puis nous longeons le sud de la Hague en s’arrêtant au nez de Jobourg pour admirer les falaises. Ensuite nous commençons à descendre la côte Ouest et contemplons les dunes de sable. Après une quinzaine de côtes, des kilomètres de chemins (la trace était parfaite) et une certaine fatigue, nous nous arrêtons dans une pizzeria avant de poser notre tente en bivouac sur le terrain de foot de Port-Bail-sur-Mer. 2e nuit en tente et encore une fois pas la meilleure…      Read more

      A first, and a last

      Our very first eurocamp experience, and our last of 8 stopovers over the Channel.

      We were unsure what to expect and after chatting with some seasoned eurocampers we were told that this site, Domaine les Ormes is a good one in terms of activities, spaciousness and cleanliness. It didn't disappoint.
      After a three hour drive and stops at the chateau in Nantes and the detour to Ancenis it was 7pm as we turned off the road and into the site. I was tired and just ready to relax.
      Between me and a glass of red stood the check in though and I was expecting something lengthy, rules, regulations, etc
      I approached the reception desk ready with my 8th practiced intro 'bon soir' 'parle la francaise en petit peu' on the tip of my tongue. But, before I could speak.
      'Mrs Shurmer? Where've you travelled from love? I bet yer ready to chill out'. The lovely Diane hailed from Chorley and knew our village, our street even, really well. Scenes aren't always the way we set them in our minds are they?
      So a lovely few days were had and we managed a little ride out to the nearest market town, Dol de Bretagne. Very pretty with lots of timber framed houses and quite a history.
      We also managed to get Kev in the water in the dome, the indoor pool facility at the site. Only a few cuts and bruises were sustained and now I have my very own Tarzan!      Read more

      Onderweg en Saint Malo

      Precies voor de sneeuw uit over de Pyreneeën gekomen. De natte sneeuw die ik in de Pyreneeën had was de voorbode van echte sneeuw. Wat ben ik blij dat ik daar niet in beland ben 🥵
      Het is alle dagen echt koud. Het plan dat ik daardoor aangepast heb is: gewoon gaan rijden richting noorden tot het mooi weer wordt en dan blijf ik ergens een paar dagen chillen.
      Dat betekent dat ik door heel veel mooie dorpjes gereden ben, waar ik dan weer geen fotos van kon maken want voordat een parkeerplaats gevonden is ben je het dorp alweer uit.
      Er was één dorpje waar ik speciaal voor gestopt ben en dat was vanwege de prachtige, blauw geverfde ijzeren brug. Op dat moment kwam er een liedje in mijn hoofd: Sur le pont d'Avignon on est dance, on est dance. Nou wat een mooi decor zou die brug zijn om over te dansen. Meteen heb ik het liedje veranderd in: Sur le pont d'Aveyron on est dance, on est dance, want de brug loopt over de rivier Aveyron.
      Dagen lang door knalgroen gereden, zo groen dat het soms zeer deed aan mijn ogen. Het nieuwe ontluikende groen en de regenbuien die het stof er af spoelen tesamen met een bleek zonnetje maken dat alles onwaarschijnlijk groen is.
      Vanmorgen even koffie gedronken in een leuk dorpje waar ze een prachtig gebouw voor exposities hadden, wat helaas vandaag gesloten was. Veel glas en roestmetalen panelen. Door de zon weerspiegelde alles mooi in de ramen, een prachtig lijnenspel.
      Intussen zit ik vandaag in Frankrijk in Saint Malo. Een prachtig plaatsje in Noord-Bretagne waar ik genoten heb van de prachtige kust en van een in de rotsen uitgehakte beeldentuin. Die beelden zijn gemaakt door een abt die, op 55-jarige leeftijd, na een beroerte doofstom geworden was. Vanaf toen bracht hij zijn dagen door met beelden uithakken in de rotsen aan de kust. Heel bijzonder om te bezoeken want het is best griezelig om over de rotsen te klauteren om de beelden te kunnen zien.
      Gelukkig sta ik nu op een camperplaats in Mont Saint-Michel met electriciteit voor mijn electrische kacheltje, want ik heb het echt koud. Ze voorspellen hier snachts lage temperaturen, brrrrr 🥶      Read more

      CHERRUEIX

      Im vorbei fahren, in Richtung Cancale, erblickte ich in CHERRUEIX eine unscheinbare Tafel am Strassenrand. Ein Hinweis für diese Fahrt,... ja wie soll ich das beschreiben,...durchs Meer, aber 5 km, hauptsächlich einfach ohne Wasser😏🤭🙈 (Dazu lass ich nun einfach mal die Bilder sprechen...)
      So fuhr ich also heute wieder von Cancale zurück, in Richtung Abenteuer und ich muss sagen, die Wartezeit hat sich absolut gelohnt. 👍🙏👍😆 Solltet ihr also mal hier in dieser Gegend sein, dann nichts wie rauf auf's Bähnli und ab in den Sumpf.🤣      Read more

      Day 17: Alencon to Mont St Michel

      We had a somewhat shakey start today - Fifi had a coolant light show on her dash and after much googling and youtubing we decided to find a Fiat dealership and ask them for help. We drove into the lot and parked... right in amongst all the cars for sale. Matt took a photo of the dash and I used google translate to have a message ready in case they didn't speak English - which they didn't. A lovely man read my message, looked at the photo, shook his head and put his hand out for the key. He jumped in, turned a knob and all was well - Matt had bumped a menu log button and that was all it was. We were on our way to Mont St Michel...a place we have both wanted to visit for over 30 years! With just 1 minor detour - to look at a huge cathedral at Harcourt - we arrived at 12 and spent the next 5 hours walking around the Abbey, which dates back to the 8th century, and the town at the base. The Abbey and surrounding walls were amazing, but the town was like Disney on steroids. We went back to the mainland to find our accommodation, which was 1 of 4 tiny rooms built above the hosts own home, overlooking cow paddocks and barns and Mont St Michel. We went back at 6.30pm to watch the high tide come racing in and surround the island - it was amazing how quickly this took place.       Nach der Werkstatt machen wir uns auf den Weg nach Mont saint Michele, es ist in Frankreich ein besonderer Ort, eine Festung mit einer Kirche, welche in Etappen auf einen Felsen gebaut wurde und nun eine Art Pilger Reise darstellt.
