    Fly east

    June 19 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

After 3 days of rest, we started cycling again. Our idea is to go East until we get stopped, either by a closed border or by the weather or who knows what.
Today, our destination was Regensburg. We had strong tailwinds, so we could almost fly 😀
Our route passed by Riedenburg where we turned on the Altmühl bike path to Kelheim. From there, we continued along the Danube to Regensburg.
In the end, we were really lucky. There were quite some thunderstorms around us, but we managed to avoid them somehow, so we only saw the dark clouds and the rain.
In Regensburg, Michl welcomed us. Who would have thought we'd meet again this soon after our adventures in Panama and Colombia?

    Back in Germany

    June 11 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

We woke up and it was still pretty wet outside. Our clothes hadn't all dried either, but it wasn't too bad anymore. The route started with a lot of up and down to the "green" border to Germany. We entered the country on a small path in the forest. Again, there was no controls or anything, so border cross is REAL 😀
After crossing the border, we noticed the change of housing quality immediately. Furthermore, the number of E-bike riders increased significantly. In Czech Republik we have seen only very few E-bikes. In Germany, cyclists of all age groups seem to be in need for some artificial support to move a bicycle 😉
We stopped for a coffee in Tirschenreuth, then continued our way in a Southwestern direction. At some stage, it stopped raining and even the sun came out, so we could finally take off our rain gear.
We cycled some remote roads, followed a couple of marked bike pathes and had short stops in Neustadt an der Waldnaab and Weiden. Both towns have really picturesque centres.
In Weiherhammer, our destination for the day, we were happy to see our friends who we could stay with. We could also clean the muddy bikes and dry our stuff. We spent the night over dinner and holiday pictures.

    Regensburg Germany

    August 22, 2019 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Sorry to say, but it's been another beautiful day along the Danube River. Today's adventures started with a walking tour through the city and visit the beautiful St. Peter's church. Lunch then our tour and tasting of Bavarian beers, pretzels and sausages! On our Microbreweries tour we stopped at 2 locations for beer and food pairing; excellent!! Found ourselves with an hour before we were to meet our transfer, so after a little more shopping and walking, we ended up at a beer garden near an ice cream shop. Great way to cool down. Weather has been so good, cool in the morning and sunny, not too warm in the afternoon. As we explored Regensburg, the ship moved up river towards our final port in Nuremberg.Read more

    Körperkapitulation

    September 23, 2019 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

    October 6 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

🎉Read more

    Auf geht's nach Passau

    October 7 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

Read more

    Die Bifteki Krise

    September 22, 2019 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

    Regensburg

    September 10, 2019 in Germany ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

Nobody wants to hear this, but I nearly had a very bad crash today. Literally one mile from the city, my handlebar bolts loosened and I spent a terrifying five seconds or so imagining how terribly this was going to hurt and how hopefully I didn't die, but surviving a crash like this seemed pretty inconvenient, too, and there was just no good way out, and I hoped no one would be put off from cycling forever because of this, etc.

Luckily, I lost a lot of momentum at the bottom and was able to brake enough to coast to a stop without falling. One of the bolts was stripped, but I tightened the rest enough to get me to my hostel. It should be an easy replacement.

It was a very stressful end to a rough several days.

I decided to take a day off to re-evaluate my trip (my initial 80-miles-a-day plan was a bit ambitious given the weather and the climbing....have I mentioned the climbing?), work on my bike, hydrate, figure out the rest of my route, do some laundry, catch up on these posts so no one worries I've crashed my bike (only almost), clear my head, you know, "rest." I wasn't scheduled to do all of this until Friday, but I think it's time.

Anyway, Regensburg was one of the cities I was most looking forward to visiting, so I am not disappointed to have to spend a little extra time here.

    Quiz Update from Mr K!

    July 26, 2018 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

As we make our way across Germany (and of the 17+ countries I've been to this is one of my favourites!) I should mention that I'm looking forward to seeing my cats (even if I'd also like a dog as well) and going away in the caravan to a campsite when I get home.

I think I may also need an Indian curry soon, as long as my size-11s don't wear out before reaching the restaurant, at least it wouldn't involve swimming more than 100m, although I'd run there if needed, even at my age having been born in the 70s!

Also looking forward to a bacon & sausage sandwich over the summer, eaten using my right hand and with brown sauce, if there's too much sauce I'd need to use my knife and fork (but could leave the spoon), and I could wash it down with a nice cup of coffee.

The karaoke at the back has just broken into "Don't Stop Me Now" which is great, just wondering if they could add in a little 'vocalise' or the theme tune to the Onedin Line too maybe? If music was also their fave subject at school it shouldn't be too hard?!

Must also get back on the golf course asap as I have withdrawal symptoms, I could catch up on the Radio 5 sports news whilst I'm at it, and following a round perhaps a G&T or a real ale, or mint choc chip ice cream?

Have heard that Daniel Craig is going to do one more Bond film which is great, although hope he doesn't follow in another previous Bond's footsteps and start appearing in musicals as I don't see him as a lead in West Side Story, similarly don't see him as a Gryffindor in a Harry Potter movie either; maybe he could branch out into Sci-Fi and do either Star Wars or Star Trek, that would be brilliant!

New Bake-Off should be on soon which will be great; think it has the potential to run for at least as long as I've been working for NMPAT, so 17-20 for sure. Noel Fielding does a pretty good job, although I'd say he's a league down from the "big guns" of comedy like Billy Connolly; I'm sure Chandler from Friends would have a witty one-liner to say about "big guns"...

    Hope I haven't said too much? 😂😂😂😂

    Regensburg

    October 1, 2019 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Woke up in the beautiful town of Regensburg Germany. 8° at 0900 and clear blue skies as we left on our walking tour of the medieval city.

After our 2 hour tour, we had an hour of free time to check out the city, and decided to try the bratwurst sausage from the oldest continually open restaurant in the world.

Back onboard for lunch then enjoyed the afternoon in the lounge with a red or two as we watched the world go by.
