    September 24 in Greece ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

    Corfu town

    May 13 in Greece ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

After a blowy night and with a very damp forecast for the day ahead we headed by bus to Corfu town to be proper tourists for the day see the sights we missed last year. The old fort was impressive, some of the Venetian buildings as well as the British ones were still standing some had been restored. The fisherman’s shacks lining the moat walk were brilliant and we enjoyed walking through the fort to visit Mandraki Marina. The view of old Corfu Town from the lighthouse at the top of the Fort took our breathe away mostly coz it was so windy but also pretty impressive. The church was a lot less sparkling than the average Greek church but so was the day, from about noon it has been raining but we are snug in a cafe with our first English paper since Dad bought one over in February. Had lovely lunch at Bellisimo restaurant in Corfu town. We stopped off at Lidl’s on the way back and bought a case so can start packing a few presents for when we come home. Who wants Ouzo?Read more

    Corfu, Greece

    July 31 in Greece ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Easy day with nothing booked but a return bus from shop to city. Headed out at 9.30am. In hindsight, the €15 each return bus wasn't necessary. We only used it one way and at the port there was a local bus for €1.50 each one way - oh well, live and learn lol.

Lovely day starting with a visit to the Old Fort from the 15th century. Then a wander through tow with its beautiful old buildings, then around the waterfront to the free shuttle back to the shop. Of course there was a quick beer at the marina to cool down and admire all the gorgeous boats.

Back on board by 2.30pm and chilling on our deck for a few hours. Dinner in the dining lounge and then hit the sack.

    May 18, 2017 in Greece ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Read more

    Corfu: The City

    November 13, 2013 in Greece ⋅ ⛅ 64 °F

The island of Corfu (Kerkyra) is a wonderland. It has been domanated by Venetian, Austro-Hungarian and English rulers. The result is a wonderfully cosmopolitan island that bears the stamp of the whole of Europe. Technically Greek now, we saw the house in which Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, was born. The buildings look Venetian. Every language, including English and French, are widely spoken here. The food is wonderful. The ambience is intoxicating. Corfu has become one of our favorite places in the world to visit.Read more

    November 6, 2016 in Greece ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

We didn't know if anything would be open on a Sunday, but, thanks to Saint Spyridon, Corfu was full of life today. On the first Sunday in November, the people of Corfu commemorate that one time when everyone was getting cholera and Saint Spyridon chased it away. There are processions throughout the middle of the day, and the shops that would have been closed had all opened for the occasion.

We did a little shopping, watched some of the processions, and Google maps helped us find an excellent cafe for lunch. Eating souvlaki at an outdoor cafe in Greece, then heading across the street to buy baklava from a little bakery recommended by a local a couple tables away--there's another item to cross off my bucket list.

    May 8, 2018 in Greece ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Read more
