      Floating Village

      We took a sampan ride through the Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter, a part of Hong Kong famous for floating seafood restaurants in a harbor protected from heavy storms.

      A cluster of fishing boats moor together here, as well, creating a floating village. These days only 200 or so people live there, but the number used to be much higher.Meer informatie

      It's electrifying!

      Rolling out of bed at the leisurely hour of 7am we woke to a very soggy Disney Resort after last night's continual heavy rain. In fact it was so heavy last night that the nightly fireworks were cancelled, which was disappointing, but expected. Luckily we had a great view of the fireworks on our first park day. One of the best parts of that show was listening to the appreciative 'ooohs' and 'aaahhhs' from the Chinese. If I ever do a live stand up show I want these guys as my ring-in audience!
      Anyway, we had packed our stuff and trundled through the grand foyer for the last time. We wont see you real soon Shanghai Disneyland, but we loved our time here and we'd definitely love to come back at some point. Our cab ride took us about 25 minutes and again I was astounded at the endless parade of massive apartment blocks and those under rapid construction. If Jacinda really wants KiwiBuild to work she needs to get these lads on the job, as I'm sure they could knock up 100,000 houses in about 18 months, and at a third the price!
      We arrived at Shanghai Pudong airport just after 8am, were through security and immigration in about five minutes (take note America!!!) and checked in for our Hong Kong flight. The next two hours were spent in the blissful environs of the Cathay Pacific lounge, complete with a noodle bar and impressive selection of food and drink, including highly addictive custard dumplings.
      Our Shanghai-Hong Kong flight started boarding just before 11am and we were in the air about 11.30 for our 2 and a half hour flight. This gave us enough time to scoff another delicious two course Cathay lunch and me time to watch the movie Yesterday, which is charmingly funny and well worth a couple of hours.
      Our Cathay Dragon A321 touched down at Chep Lap Kok airport just after 2pm and a mere 15 minutes later we were through immigration, had collected our luggage and were waiting for our pre-booked special transport. I could have taken the Airport Express train into Kowloon, but when I was online checking airport to city connections last night I noticed one option was a chauffeur driven Tesla. By law, nerds must take a Tesla if it is available, and I'm nothing but law-abiding, so I booked this option. After a little aimless wandering at the terminal trying to find our chauffeur we finally tracked him down and sat back into the leather clad luxury of the world's best electric car. The next half hour will stay with me for a long time. I WANT one of these cars. The centre console is a massive touch screen and the acceleration blows your hair back more than a V8 powered hair dryer! Reluctantly getting out of the Tesla we checked into the Intercontinental and are currently enjoying our room's glorious view of Hong Kong harbour. Tomorrow the sightseeing whirlwind warms up.       Im L Hotel Island South gibts nicht nur Gutes Frühstück und abendessen nein der Kaffe hier ist auch sehr gut dieses hotel habe ich schon 6 mal gebucht wegen dem Service denn super freundlichen personal grosse Zimmer mit Pool einfach traumhaft schön auch dir MTR ist 250 M vom hotel buse sind gleich vor der Türe also ein super hotel und dazu kommt es noch zum Ocean Park ist nur eine station mit der MTR erreichbarMeer informatie

      Stanley und Aberdeen

      Ich finde ja ein wenig hätten wir es schon noch ausgehalten, in Macao. Aber leider ist wie immer die Zeit knapp, und so geht es nach einem großzügigen Frühstück auch schon wieder zurück nach Hongkong. Nachdem wir unser neues Quartier in der Causway Bay, das relativ unspektakuläre Metropark Hotel, bezogen haben, machen wir uns heute daran, den Süden von Hongkong Island zu erkunden.

      Zunächst geht es mit dem Minibus nach Stanley. Der Reiseführer meint, ein Besuch dieses Stadtteils, mitsamt seines berühmten Marktes und seiner Expats-Häuser, sei einfach ein Muss. Warum, das will sich uns aber irgendwie nicht wirklich erschließen. Daher nehmen wir bald den modernen Doppeldecker-Bus in Richtung Aberdeen und genießen die malerische Fahrt entlang der Küste. In Aberdeen angekommen, schlendern wir zunächst entlang des Hafens und nehmen dann an dessen Ende schließlich die Fähre zum berühmten schwimmenden Restaurant "Jumbo".

      Dieses ist ein Erlebnis für sich. Mit ihren insgesamt angeblich mehr als 30 Millionen Besuchern kann man die Wirtshausschiffe natürlich getrost als Touristenfalle bezeichnen, aber was soll's - die Queen, James Bond und Tom Cruise können nicht irren. Überrascht bin ich schlussendlich aber nicht nur vom hohen Anteil asiatischer Gästen im Restaurant, sondern auch vom relativ guten Essen. Weniger überraschend dann die Rechnung, die ist wie erwartet, na sagen wir mal der Bekanntheit des Etablissements angemessen.

      Mit den weltberühmten Hongkonger Straßenbahnen geht's dann zurück zum Hotel, welches glücklicher Weise genau an der Straßenbahnstrecke liegt. BimBim.      Meer informatie

      Putztag

      Nur noch eine Woche! Die Hälfte ist geschafft. Das wird ausgiebig gefeiert und deshalb wird das Zimmer nun geputzt. Als ich angekommen bin habe ich mich über das Putzzeugs noch lustig gemacht - als würde ich putzten. Nun ja sieben Tage später bin ich schlauer und ehrlich gesagt froh um die Abwechslung. Ja es hat echt Spass gemacht die "Bude" zu putzen.

      Quarantänetag Nummer 3

      Das erste Mal Menschen gesehen seit meiner Ankunft🤩 Zwar in Vollmontur, Maske und Visier aber ich finde das zählt😁
      Die Snacks sind angekommen, erstes Sportworkout ist gemacht und die Sonne ist am Start. 😎
      Ach und da war noch mein erstes Chinesisches Frühstücks, nun ja ich denke das Wort gewöhnungsbedürftig trifft es am besten.

      Hotelzimmer chillen

      Angekommen im Quarantäne Hotel (mit einem ersten Touripic🤩) . Was soll ich sagen, das Hotel scheint einen edlen Eindruck zu machen, dabei gilt zu beachten, ich habe nur die Lobby und den Lift gesehen.
      Mein Zimmer ist gross und hat eine schöne Aussicht aufs Meer und die Stadt.
      Ich freue mich jetzt schon die Stadt zu erkunden und bis dahin markiere ich in meinem Reiseführer alle Orte die ich besuchen möchte.

      Aberdeen

      Ein schöner Weg führt uns durch den Dschungelwald runter zur Aberdeen Promenade. Eine Stunde haben wir gebraucht und stehen zunächst einmal auf einem terrassenförmig angelegten riesigen Friedhof. Alles ist aus Stein, keine Blumen, kein Grün. Sieht aus wie die Wohntürme nebenan. Wie im Leben so im Tod, scheint es. Wahrscheinlich hat das Sinn und ist zweckmäßig, nur wissen wir es nicht. Die Wohntürme sind auch hier allgegenwärtig und bilden eine kontrastreiche Kulisse zum Hafen. Der entpuppt sich tatsächlich als das Kleinod, als das es im Reiseführer beschrieben ist. Wir lassen uns auch gleich bequatschen, handeln einen Preis aus und unternehmen mit einem Sampan (kleine Dschunke) eine halbstündige Hafenrundfahrt. Und die ist einfach nur super 👍. Wir sehen die Dschunken der Fischer, die gemeinsam vertäut im taifunsicheren Hafen liegen, die modernen Jachten gleich neben den Trawlern und Schrimpsbooten. Mitten drin ein gewaltiges schwimmendes Restaurant. Es wimmelt nur so von Sampans und Dschunken jeder Größe und unsere alte Dame (Bootsführerin) fährt uns souverän durch das Gewirr. Vom Wasser aus ist der Kontrast zwischen den Booten und den Wohnburgen noch größer, wir lieben es 😍✌️. Wir glauben der Hafen ist voll, aber nein, derzeit sind vielleicht 300 - 400 Schiffe hier. In der Hochsaison (Taifunzeit) sind es über Tausend. Das muss ein Wahnsinns Anblick sein. Leider ist der Bootstrip auch mal zu Ende und wir schlendern noch ein bisschen die Promenade entlang und erfahren, dass die Boote Familienbetriebe sind und hier geboren werden, leben, arbeiten und sterben. Früher haben sie sich zu Dörfern vertäut und die Bewohner haben nur selten den Fuß an Land gesetzt. Alles was sie brauchten, wurde auf dem Wasser gehandelt. Teilweise ist das noch immer so, aber immer seltener zu finden.
      Mit dem Bus fahren wir dann bis direkt vor die Haustür unseres Appartements.      Meer informatie

      Happy Valley Horse Race & Victoria Peak

      Nichts verloren, nichts gewonnen und doch ein riesen Erlebnis - die Pferderennbahn im Happy Valley! Wir genossen unsere letzten Tage in Hong Kong mit der Aussicht vom Victoria Peak über die ganze Stadt und letzte feine Dim Sum. Ebenfalls sehr empfehlenswert war das Korean BBQ - all you can eat...
      Vor dem mehrstündigen Flug ins nächste Abenteuer nach Neuseeland haben wir uns heute noch eine Hot Stone Massage gegönnt. :-)      Meer informatie

      A day in Baku

      It might surprise you if I say Azerbaijan is an oil-rich country, yes it is. However, the government saw the potential for tourism and put some efforts to popularize it. Baku was not in the travel until 3-4 years ago, now it is getting the spotlight as a cheap and affordable travel destination.

      I never knew much about Baku until I came to know about a holiday package provided by https://www.satatravels.com - one of the top travel agencies in the UAE. I contacted them and they made all the arrangments for the travel including Visa.

      I boarded my flight from Dubai and reached Baku at 3.00 am. Really loved the airport especially when it is less crowded, the airport was simple and elegant. Went to the hotel and took a short nap and woke up at 8.00 am. Had the breakfast and then set out for the first-day journey.

      The bus took a quick round in and around Baku, the highways and some countryside locations. It was a mesmerizing experience. The view was not that green, but a moderate climate along with a light breeze made the experience ecstatic. The roads were of top quality and the streets were clean. When I went to some village areas, the scenario was different. Most of the villagers engage in agricultural activities to earn them a living, they are least bothered about the tourists it seems.

      You can find a stark contrast between the main city and centre and its outskirts. Since Azerbaijan is an upcoming tourist destination, they are improving the infrastructure. One peculiar thing about Baku is that you can find tall modern buildings as well as old building reminiscing us of its history.

      You can find a mixed culture in Baku of central Asian, Arabic/Middle eastern and European. The society seems to be more moderate in comparison with other neighbouring countries, it was evident from the dress code, food in the local culture. Since Baku is a coastal city, I decided to go to a beach. To my surprise, the beaches were not that tidy, also the water looks not that good. But one can find very cheap accommodation and food along the coastline.

      One thing you shouldn't miss in Baku is the Greater Caucasus mountains region. It looks very beautiful with lots of hiking and mountain climbing potential. You can also find mud volcanoes nearby which is a rare sight. If you love F1?NASCAR and/or car racing, then you must the tracks of one of the world’s most prestigious events. A visit to Baku isn’t complete until you’ve tried the various cuisine of local, Turkish, Iranian, European origin, it is a mini food paradize indeed — burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, kebabs, salads, flat bread, hummus, fresh fruits & vegetables, etc. Drinking tea with strawberry jam was a unique feeling.

      You can find the World’s Only Miniature Literature Museum in Baku, Opened to the public since 2002, the museum exhibits private collection of more than 6,500 books from 65 different countries.      Meer informatie
