Certified diver 💪🐟🐠🐬

This is the day! I'm waking up at 6 here all the time, bed early, wake up early, yay. Also grandpa next door always runs the water pump at 6 for the salt farm next door, so... we just go up on balcony and watch the sunrise 🌞
After breakfast (Balinese - see picture 😋) while waiting for my ride to the dive center I've just started to do the exam. 50 questions, passed it like boss - 100%! Time to start exploring the other 70% of the planet 🌏
Then it was dive time, this time we went on a shipwreck, US Liberty that was sunk here during ww2. Whoa! This is big! And all the animals and corals, nice! I also saw a huge turtle feeding herself, this is insanely beautiful! 🐠🐟 So many fish and everything, I love diving! And sorry, no pictures, I don't have any camera yet. Soon!
Lili in meanwhile went to doctor - ear infection. But she got pills and is getting better and better, yay! ❤️💪
But this week is a work week for me so after 2 dives and some lunch I started working 💪 It's easy working with the sound of sea behind, taking a pause at the beach,...
We had a nice dinner in a mediterranean restaurant 😊 Food here is just so good! Overall: Amed is nice! Good vibes, nice people, majestic vulcano, black beaches, fisherman, salt farms and tons of beautiful underwater world. We love it here.

Day 94
Discovering the northern coast of Bali

At first mo and me were a little bit disappointed when we arrived on the northern coast of Bali. Haven’t they told us it would be a sleepy fisherman’s village which should be so much less touristic? There were still so many homestays, hotels and resorts next to each other and nearly everyone on the road tried to convince us to buy or book something from him - bracelets, snorkeling tour, hotel room, and so on.
- even some of the Balinese kids had already their own selling strategy (“how are you? Where are you from? What’s your name? Do you want a bracelet?”), which was so sad to see.

But after we got used to the touristy part of Amed we also started to enjoy the restaurants directly at the beach and had a nice evening in Warung Bobo. Mo ate some fresh Barracuda fish and the Warung had even some live music :)

We stayed in Sama Sama Amed, such a nice place! Our beautiful room had a nice terrace with a garden view, where we could do some yoga asana in the morning. On our first day in Amed we rented a scooter to discover the surroundings and the smaller villages around the area. The road was right next to the coast and everything looked so beautiful. The smaller villages nearby which also belong to the region of Amed were less touristic and we found a small romantic Warung directly next to the sea where the prices were about the same as on Java. I tried the typical Balinese liquor Arak and the taste reminded me of the partying times during uni🤭😅Read more

Schnorchelparadies Amed

Nachdem es uns in Amed so gut gefällt, verlängern wir spontan und genießen vor allem das ausgiebige Schnorcheln am direkt anliegenden Riff, wo sich Schildkröten nur so tummeln und wir zeitgleich sogar mehrere aus nächster Nähe zu sehen bekommen. Mit dem Roller fahren wir zudem noch einmal die Küste entlang, erholen uns nachmittags am Pool, gönnen uns eine Massage und freuen uns jedes Mal wieder auf das günstige und unfassbar leckere Abendessen in unserem Lieblings-Warung. Zum Nachtisch gibt es wie immer Bubur injin, eine Art Milchreis mit schwarzem Reis, Kokosnussmilch und Palmzucker - schmeckt umwerfend.Read more

Après un bon petit déjeuner, on file vers la plage de Lovina pour tenter de voir des dauphins avec un pêcheur... et on en a vu 😍 même principe qu'avec les baleines à Tadoussac 😅 on tourne, on cherche, on attend et hop ils arrivent ❤️
On part de Lovina sur une mer calme presque comme une tâche d'huile et d'un coup, le vent se lève... on est trempés mais ça en vallait la peine 🍀🥰
Après 2 heures de navigation, nous retournons vers notre chauffeur et essayons de nous dessaler un peu tant bien que mal ... et hop il reste encore 2 heures de route pour rejoindre Amed, tout à l'est de Bali, près du volcan Mont Agung.Read more

Amed

Da wir eh auf dem Weg nach Lombok sind, gab es einen Zwischenhalt in Amed, das bekannt für seine Tauchspots sei und wir mal zusammen tauchen wollten.🙂
Nach einer Portion Spaghetti Pesto und anschliessendem Blockbuster Abend (In Time), gings an Tag 2 auf einen Fun-Dive im USAT Liberty Wreck, ein versunkenes Schiff der USA aus dem 2. Weltkrieg (Japan hat es versenkt). Es war mein erstes Mal mit Shore Entrance d.h. Einstieg ins Wasser über den Strand: Man läuft mit der Scubaausrüstung über den Strand ins Meer und startet den Tauchgang.😁
Leider hatte Nathan Probleme mit dem Druckausgleich im Ohr, weshalb der erste Tauchgang nicht wirklich ein Tauchgang war. Beim zweiten musste er dann ganz passen🥺 und ich ging alleine mit dem Divemaster das Wreck bestaunen. Es war meega nice😍 Leider gibts keine Fotos🤷🏼‍♂️ Ich musste z.T. auch schon sehr präzise tauchen um unter einigen Wrackteilen durchzukommen. Hat Spass gemacht und war wunderschön🥰 Anschliessend gings mit sehr viel Hunger in ein Burgerresti. Danach gings noch zum Barber (5. Barber im 6. Land) (siehe Fotos) und in die Massage, wo es eine Balinesische Massage gab.

Day 6–8
The (almost) real Bali

We've been to the major tourist spots. Now a chance to slow down and see quieter areas with less tourists and more locals.
Amed is a small fishing village on the East coast which is attracting more tourists but still retains it's heritage. Many people still fish using their traditional trimarans which they keep on the beach. But it's changing with more cafes and guest houses opening up.
The guest house we stayed in was directly on the beach on a spot which would have been a fisherman's house. And I don't think the 2 Reggae cafes are traditional Balinese culture.Read more

Some touristy things are worth doing

We were recommended getting a car to take us to 3 snorkeling sites for the morning. Then we were told we could do them by traditional fishing boat even though it was more expensive.
What a great idea!
So we had a great morning on the boat and snorkeling. Seeing the coast from a boat gives you a different perspective of the place. The snorkeling was not as good as the Great Barrier Reef but it was still worthwhile.
Luckily no-one had a camera to take photos of us trying to get back on the boat looking like deformed seals.Read more

Day 7
In the shadow of the volcano

Amed is at the base of Mt Agung, an active volcano. It last erupted in 2019. So the soil is very rich and the sand is very black and locals are alert to any danger signs.
You can climb it overnight to watch the sunrise. It takes 7-8 hours and climbs 1200 metres to the summit of 3112 metres.
I was going to climb it but I couldn't find my hiking shoes that day. 😁

Amed (Bali Osten) und etwas Kultur

Der Gastgeber vom letzten Homestay hat mir netterweise einen Public Bus organisiert, der mich direkt von meiner Unterkunft einsammelt und mich nach Amed bringt. Um 7.00 Uhr war er pünktlich da. Perfekt für mich, da ich so nicht den schweren Rucksack zur nächsten Shuttle Busstation tragen musste (ca. 2km).
Es gibt hier zwar auch viele Taxis, die sind aber, da ich ja momentan noch alleine Reise, teurer als wenn ich logischerweise mit einen Bus fahre.

Nachdem wir alle eingesammelt haben ging es los. Über die Station Padangbai, beliebt zur Überfahrt nach den Gili Islands ☝️😊 direkt nach Amed.

Auf der Fahrt habe ich viel vom einheimischen Leben der Balinesen gesehen.. Zur Hochzeit geschmückte Tempel mit schon vorbereiteten Spanferkel auf einer riesen Tafel mit Blumen geschmückt..sowie auch einen Trauerzug. Ganz vorne ein Mädchen mit wahrscheinlich dem Bild ihrer Oma in der Hand..😥

An einem anderen Friedhof rauchte es stark und viele standen am Eingang an..vllt wollten sie auch zu einer Zeremonie oder die Gebeine ihrer Angehörigen verbrennen lassen?

Unser Guide erklärte uns gestern: Das höchste ist es für balinesen nach dem Tod verbrannt zu werden und die Asche ins Meer zu streuen. Wenn die Familie nicht genug Geld hat, kann man den Verstorbenen auch 'erstmal' auf einem Friedhof beerdigen. Im Laufe bis zu 5 Jahren, wenn die Familie dann genug Geld hat, wird der Verstorbene wieder ausgegraben und dann verbrannt und verstreut. ☝️🙄
Die Friedhöfe sind also eher leer....

So die ganze Fahrt dauerte dann gute 3,5 h 🤦‍♀️ lang aber kurzweilig 😊. Im schönen Hostel eingecheckt, Umgebung etwas erkundet. Erste Schnorchelrunde. Also ab ins Meer.. kurz am Strand eingeschlafen...Abendessen..
