    I've arrived 🎉🎉
    OK, I've skipped a few days, so sum up!
    First, I thought I would stay the entire day in Stenskäret, but a cancelled meeting, a rather slow day at work, a strong wind and a calm forecast for the next day made me change my mind. So I left Stenskäret in a strong breath, with one reef, at some point I had to take a second one. But after a while I was able to round a piece of land and from there it was just broad reach all the way until the archipelago. And after that I was able to go to one of the islands I particularly like in this archipelago. I spent the entire Friday there, but alas (or not, depending on your point of view) there is no connection or very little on this island. I was a problem to try to get the forecast for today but… well it was wrong anyway 😂🤣
    So today I set up to go “home” around 2pm, it was going all fine until the last stretch of the channel to reach Luleå, it was narrow and with a really odd heading wind that was disappearing at times. I had told myself that if I didn't manage to clear that part by 6pm, I'd start the engine to do it, but turns out I managed to squeeze just enough to be out of it at 6:01. I was at the harbour around 7pm, then time to clean up and unpack some of my stuff. I walked back to the flat that I'd left mid-May, I think 🤔.
    I'll need a bit of time to reflect and take in the trip, but I'm looking forward to roaming from island to island for the next 2 months. Then I'll have to think and plan the fall-migration South, but that's not for now 🤣

    Je suis arrivé ! 🎉🎉

    Ok, j'ai sauté quelques jours donc petit résumé !
    Finalement, je ne suis pas resté sur Stenskäret tout le jeudi comme j'avais pensé : une réunion annulée, un jour de travail un peu au ralenti, des bonnes conditions météo ce jeudi, pas de vent annoncé le vendredi… Et hop, changement de plan, me voilà parti. Je suis parti de Stenskäret avec un vent assez fort, j'avais un ris et j'ai dû en prendre un deuxième assez vite. Mais, après un moment à remonter au près, j'ai pu contourner une pointe rocheuse et commencer un long bord de large vers l'archipel de Luleå! Après ça j'ai pu rejoindre une île que j'aime beaucoup dans cet archipel. J'y ai passé tout le vendredi, mais hélas (ou tant mieux selon le point de vue) il n'y avait pas où très peu de réseau. C'était un peu problématique pour obtenir les prévisions pour aujourd'hui, mais de toute façon, elles se sont révélés fausses 🤣
    Donc aujourd'hui, je suis parti de l'île vers 14 h, et tout s'est bien passé jusqu'au dernier bout du chenal pour atteindre Luleå. Il est étroit et avec un vent irrégulier comme pas permis, mais bien de face et qui disparaissait par moment… Je m'étais dit que si je n'arrivais pas à sortir du chenal vers 18 h, j'allais mettre le moteur en marche, mais finalement, j'ai réussi à le passer à 18 h 01. J'étais à ma place au port une heure plus tard. Ensuite : rangement, ménage, mise en sac de quelques affaires (je ferai le reste demain) et marche jusqu'à l'appartement. Je n'y avais pas mis les pieds depuis mi-mai, je crois 🤔.
    Je vais avoir besoin d'un peu de temps pour digérer le voyage, mais j'ai déjà hâte d'explorer les îles autour de Luleå pour les deux prochains mois. Ensuite, il faudra commencer à penser à la migration vers le sud à l'automne, mais ça, ce n'est pas de suite 🤣    Okumaya devam et

    I'm in Norrbotten now! And if all goes well (knock on wood), I've a plan to reach Luleå on Sunday!
    I left Furuögrund this morning after 8am (after a proper goodbye to my goosy neighbours). I spent a bit of time on the engine to get in a place where I could put on the sails safely, and decided from the get go to put on one reef on the main sail. And I was jolly glad about it an hour later! The wind and the sea were stronger than forecasted (at least a bit) and the gust of wind could last some minutes with a brief 10-20 second break in between. Add heavy rain on top of it and you'll get a pretty good picture. But all went well, Elvira behaved remarkably well and even though it was a bit intimidating being completely alone on that sea, I didn't feel in danger of anything at any point. Well, maybe because I was just feeling wet from all the rain that had found its way under my coat through my head and neck… (The hood didn't stay in place properly cause of the wind and the rain was making such a racket on it that it felt more like a Chinese torture than a protection at that point).
    I reached the harbour I was aiming for quite briskly overall, and I was back at work around 1pm.
    After work, I went to inspect the sauna on the island and started to cut some wood, so it would fit the small sauna chamber. Now I'm just waiting for the right temperature before going for a quick dip in the sea and sauna!

    J'ai atteint le Norrbotten ! Et si tout va comme il faut (je touche du bois), j'ai un plan pour atteindre Luleå dimanche !
    Je suis parti de Furuögrund peu après 8 h. J'ai dit au revoir à mes voisins palmipèdes. J'ai passé un peu de temps au moteur pour atteindre une zone où je pourrais envoyer les voiles sans risques et j'ai décidé d'emblée de mettre un ris à ma grand voile. Grand bien m'en a pris ! Le vent et la mer étaient plus forts et formés que ce qu'avait dit la météo (surprise !). En prime, les rafales de vent étaient longues de parfois plusieurs minutes avec des pauses d'une vingtaine de secondes entre chaque… Ajouter à ça des grosses averses en série et vous aurez une bonne idée de ce à quoi ça ressemblait. Tout s'est bien passé cela dit, Elvria était très sûr dans ce temps et même si c'était un peu intimidant d'être seul dans ce déluge, je ne me suis jamais senti en danger de quoi que ce soit. Peut-être en partie parce que j'étais trop occupé à être trempé pour ça... La pluie et l'écume projetée par la coque sont rentrées par le col de ma veste. La capuche ne tenait pas bien en place et le bruit de la pluie qui la frappait l'avait transformé en qqc de plus proche de la tortue chinoise que d'une protection…
    J'ai réussi à naviguer jusqu'au port que je visais assez rapidement et j'ai pu reprendre une journée de travail normal à 1 h de l'aprèm 😂.
    Après ça, je suis parti inspecter le sauna sur l'île et j'ai coupé du bois pour qu'il rentre dans le poêle du sauna. Maintenant, j'attends juste qu'il soit à la bonne température pour aller me baigner et sauna!!    Okumaya devam et

    I managed to get off sailing at 8 this morning and to sail in 4h30 to Furuögrund. The sailing itself was all good once I figured out how to take the waves that were out there properly. And I've managed to make my hours for work without problems.

    I forgot to mention it yesterday, but since I've shot past Umeå, I have entered the Botnia Bay.
    When I woke up this morning, I spotted another neighbour on the docks, the nice wooden boat from 2 days ago. I think they arrived late: at least they weren't at the dock when I went inside my boat for the night and I don't know when I fell asleep, but I didn't hear any engine noise before. While it would have been fun to talk to them, when I had everything ready for the day and there were still no signs of movement aboard, so I left. The forecast said the wind was going to make a 180 and blow softly from the south. So I wanted to be on the sea for that, ready to use as much as I could before it calm down for the night again.
    After a few manoeuvres to get going, I hoped to not make as much cap towards my destination as I could. Instead, I opted for a slanted approach which meant longer distance but hopefully at a higher pace making up for it. It's hard to tell if that was the right choice seeing as there are really few sailboats on the sea. The only one I can see now looks like one of the modern cruisers (that was also at the dock yesterday) which has much more sail area. It is gaining slowly on me, but not more than could be expected, I guess.
    I've used the autopilot for a good portion of the day so far. Partially because the conditions suits it and don't require my full attention to the trimming and the helm, but also because I am still tired from yesterday. While I don't dare to go in for a little nap, it's more relaxing to just sit there and look around.
    I am not sure where I will stop for the night, but I would like to make a good distance today as this is my last day of holiday. From tomorrow, I'll have to work before going sailing, which will considerably shorten the next steps.
    I'm still roughly 80 nm away as the crow flies but more realistically about a 100 nm of coastal sailing from Luleå. While I'm disappointed that I wasn't able to complete the trip to Luleå within these 17 days, I've still covered a good distance and had a really fun time. I'm curious to see how much I can sail in the evening and I guess instead of packing lunches as I was doing so far I'll start packing dinners 😅

    J'ai oublié de le préciser hier, mais depuis que j'ai passé Umeå, je suis entré dans la baie de Botnie.
    Quand je me suis réveillé ce matin, j'ai vu que j'avais un nouveau voisin : le joli voilier en bois avec qui j'ai partagé la baie il y a deux jours. Je pense qu'ils sont arrivés tard hier : ils n'étaient pas là quand je suis allé me coucher et je n'ai pas entendu de moteur avant de m'endormir. Ç'aurait été sympa de leur parler, mais il n'y avait aucun mouvement à bord quand j'avais fini tous mes préparatifs. Du coup, je suis parti sans avoir pu leur parler. La météo annonçait que le vent allait faire demi-tour et souffler tranquillement du sud avant de se calmer pour la nuit, et je voulais être sur l'eau pour cette bascule et utiliser au maximum ce vent.
    Après quelques manœuvres pour sortir du chenal, j'ai décidé de pas faire autant de cap que possible et de faire un long zigzag en espérant que la distance ajoutée sera compensée par le gain de vitesse. Ce n'est pas facile de dire pour l'instant si j'ai pris la bonne décision, car il n'y a pas beaucoup de monde sur l'eau. Le seul voilier que je vois est sûrement un des gros croiseurs modernes qu'il y avait au port hier. Même s'il semble gagner sur moi, ça n'a pas l'air d'être plus que ce qui me paraît normal (en plus d'être récent, il a vachement plus de toile que moi et Elvria).
    J'ai beaucoup utilisé l'autopilote aujourd'hui. D'une part parce que les conditions y sont propices et ne demandent pas une attention constante aux réglages des voiles ou au cap suivit, mais aussi, car je suis encore fatigué d'hier. Même si je n'ose pas aller faire la sieste, c'est plus relaxant de simplement regarder autour.
    Je ne suis pas encore sûr d'où je vais m'arrêter aujourd'hui, j'aimerais bien faire une bonne distance aujourd'hui. C'est mon dernier jour de vacances et après, il va falloir que je travaille la journée avant de naviguer en soirée, ce qui va considérablement raccourcir mes prochaines étapes.
    J'ai encore 80 miles à vol d'oiseau (mais plutôt 100 miles de navigation côtière) pour atteindre Luleå. Je suis un peu déçu de pas avoir atteint Luleå après 17 jours de voyage, mais j'ai quand même couvert une bonne distance et je me suis bien amusé. J'ai hâte de voir comment je vais pouvoir naviguer en travaillant et j'imagine que je vais devoir commencer à préparer des diners en boîte plutôt que des repas de midi 🤣    Okumaya devam et

    I stopped rather early today because the wind and the sea were stronger than advertised.
    At 8am, I pulled up the anchor and got under way without even starting the engine. The wind was strong but not so much, it grew up however and from 9 to 11:00 I could sail at a good pace and make good progress. After that, the sea and the wind picked up to the point where I chose to take a reef. The pace was unimpaired by the reduction of the sail surface (well after the back and forth between the mast and the cockpit to take in the reef). At 12:30, the wind gusts were even stronger, and I took in a second reef, again, with the increased wind I barely lost any speed. All the while, there was the occasional rain to keep me company, but the spray projected by the waves on Elvira's hull had already socked my sail clothes.
    Around 3pm I thought I should get closer to the coast and start working my way to one of the guest harbours. But as I switched from the larboard tack to the starboard one, my angle to the sea changed. I was almost entirely sideways to the waves and since they were reaching 1.5-2m at times, Elvira was heeling a lot whenever she was climbing to the top of the waves, as the wind stroke the full surface of the sails. A few of the stronger gusts of wind were devilishly timed with the top of the roll, and I thought it more prudent to reduce sail again. There however I made a mistake, I thought the geona would be easier to take in and to roll out again if the wind reduced a bit. Once I had laboriously done so, I realised that my double reefed mainsail didn't allow me to get enough speed to have stirring in that sea… Since I had already been sailing for 6h 30 min, I thought it was best to take in the rest of the mainsail, put the engine and use the motor to reach my destination: Ratan.
    Now, I've cleaned up my sails and lines, and I'll play a bit of music before a deserved shower, early dinner and early night!

    J'ai fini la journée assez tôt aujourd'hui, car la mer et le vent étaient plus costauds qu'annoncés par la météo.
    À 8 h, j'ai remonté l'ancre et je me suis mis en route sans utiliser le moteur. Le vent était assez fort, mais pas trop, mais il a augmenté au fur et à mesure de la journée. De 9 h à 11 h, j'avançais bien, rarement en dessous de 6 nœuds ! Après ça, la mer s'est formée et le vent a forcé au point où j'ai décidé de prendre un ris, et malgré la réduction de surface, j'ai à peine baissé en vitesse. Vers 12 h 30, les rafales qui passaient se sont faites plus fortes et j'ai pris un deuxième ris, et encore une fois la réduction de surface était presque entièrement compensée par la force du vent. Pendant tout ce temps-là, les pluies successives se sont chargées de me tenir compagnie, mais mes affaires étaient déjà trempées par l'écume projetée par les vagues qui se brisaient sur la coque d'Elvira.
    Vers 15 h, je me suis dit qu'il était temps de me rapprocher de la côte pour rejoindre un des ports de plaisance que j'avais identifiés. Le changement du près bâbord au près tribord a aussi créé un changement avec l'angle des vagues. Au lieu d'être plus ou moins face aux vagues, j'étais maintenant complètement de côté. Comme ces vagues atteignaient parfois les 1,50 m - 2 m, et que ma GV était assez basse, dès qu'Elvira montait au sommet des vagues, le vent la faisait gîter sérieusement. Après quelques rafales arrivées pile en même temps que le haut des vagues, j'ai pensé plus prudent de réduire encore la voilure, mais là, j'ai fait une erreur. J'ai décidé de rouler le génois, mais après avoir laborieusement réussi, je me suis aperçu que la GV seule avec ces deux ris ne me permettait pas de manœuvrer dans les vagues… Comme j'avais déjà fait 6 h 30 de voile, j'ai décidé de mettre le moteur en marche, d'affaler le reste de la GV et de faire les trois derniers miles au moteur. J'ai à présent rejoint Ratan.
    J'ai enfin fini de ranger les voiles et les bouts proprement. Maintenant un peu de musique, puis douche, ensuite diner de bonne heure et dodo !    Okumaya devam et

    Good news, the anchor held up all right. Other good news, the joints I remade also held up quite OK… And they've been thoroughly tested overnight… No leaks!
    When I stopped for the night, there was little wind, but it was blowing cross-sea. So Elvira was rolling, not sure if she should face the wind or the waves.
    Around midnight, both wind and wave came to an agreement and the rain joined in. And this merry trio has been happily going on since then.
    I'll try to get going as soon as I can, the forecast predicts wind for the morning (and for as long as the rain lasts).

    Bonne nouvelle, l'ancre a tenu ! Autre bonne nouvelle, les joints de fenêtre que j'ai refaits ont aussi tenu… Et ils ont été proprement testés toute la nuit… Pas de fuite !
    Quand je me suis arrêté pour la nuit, il y avait un tout léger vent dans une direction et une mer légère aussi, mais à 90° du vent. Elvira ne savait pas trop si elle devait faire face au vent ou aux vagues et le résultat et un roulis assez inconfortable.
    Vers minuit, les deux se sont mis d'accord et la pluie a rejoint la partie, et ce joyeux trio a continué toute la nuit et est encore de la partie.
    Je vais essayer de partir dès que possible, la météo prévoit que le vent ne va pas durer (stop vers midi, en même temps que la pluie devrait s'arrêter).    Okumaya devam et

    It was indeed too good for the sun and the light air to keep up all day…
    After a nice start this morning, the wind decreased for the first time around noon, and gradually until it completely vanished around about 6pm. After trying to wait for it a while, I was looking for an alternative stop… I kinda gave up, took the sails down and started the engine… The closest inlet where I hope to throw the anchor is still 8 nm away, so I've to run on the engine for a while …

    Other than that, the sun was shining for a while, but it got pretty covered and started raining around 5pm…

    Après un début plutôt sympa ce matin, le vent a réduit une première fois vers midi, et a graduellement ralenti jusqu'à disparaître complètement vers 18 h. Après avoir attendu pendant que je cherchais sur la carte un endroit pour passer la nuit, j'ai plus ou moins abandonné et j'ai affalé les voiles, lancé le moteur et en avant…
    La zone où je projette de m'ancrer pour la nuit est encore à huit miles nautiques, je vais être au moteur un moment…

    Sinon, le soleil était de la partie pour un bon moment, mais le temps s'est couvert et la pluie est arrivée vers 17 h…    Okumaya devam et

    I went across most of the High Coast today.
    The wind was quite moderate and in my face to start with, then around 1pm it lowered, but thankfully it veered to the south-east at the same time, and so I could progress slowly but easily with the wind 3/4 back. Now that I'm out of crochet to do, it's sometimes a bit long to stay without touching a sail for 3–4 hours in a row 😅. Mind you, I've the harmonicas, but I can't play for hours on end, and it also takes up more of my attention. So I listen to music and sometimes also to the adventures of Aubrey and Maturin (because there is never enough boats in one's life 🤣).
    Again, I'm a bit disappointed at the pictures… The islands, cliffs, and rock are so very much more impressive when seen directly from the boat.
    At the end of the day as I was about to go to a marina in Husum, I thought I had been to many of these lately, and I was a bit lame. As I was slowly approaching the channel to the harbour, I spotted a really promising bay with a long shallow but not too shallow area and thought that would be a good spot to use the bow anchor. Funnily enough, a nice sailboat with red sails I've been following and catching up with for the last 2 hours or so did the same thing, which reassured me as to the well-foundedness of this idea 😅.
    I also thought that I could do without using the engine this time, I rolled the headsail, prepared the anchor line, arrived slowly, let the mainsail fly and threw the anchor and 🎉.
    And here I am! Trollön, the island of the troll.

    J'ai longé une bonne partie de la Haute Côte aujourd'hui. Le vent était assez modéré et de face pour démarrer. Vers 13 h, il a molli, mais heureusement, dans le même temps, il a pivoté au sud-est et j'ai pu glisser doucement, mais sûrement avec le vent au 3/4 derrière. Maintenant que j'ai fini mon crochet, le temps est parfois un peu long quand le bateau avance tout seul sans qu'il faille toucher une voile pendant 3-4 h… J'ai les harmonicas, mais je ne peux pas en jouer des heures non plus et ça demande plus de concentration. Du coup, j'écoute un peu de musique et de temps en temps aussi les livres audio de la série Aubrey et Maturin (parce qu'il n'y a jamais assez de bateaux dans la vie 🤣).
    Une fois encore, je suis déçu des photos. Elles ne rendent pas justice à l'impression que les îles, falaises et rochers donnent vus depuis le bateau.
    En fin de journée, quand je m'approchais d'Husum où je pensais m'arrêter, je me suis dit que j'avais passé bcp de nuits dans les marinas ces jours-ci. J'ai vu une jolie crique sur la carte avec une grande zone peu profonde, mais pas trop, idéal pour utiliser l'ancre. Un joli voilier avec des voiles rouges que je suivais et rattrapais doucement depuis 2 h et quelques avait visiblement la même idée (ce qui m'a aussi rassuré sur le bien fondé de cette idée 🤣).
    Au vu des conditions, je me suis dit que je pouvais me passer du moteur. J'ai roulé le génois, préparé la ligne de mon ancre, choqué ma grand voile, jeté l'ancre et 🎉 !
