    Arrived in Singapore

    21. november 2016, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

    The reality of international travel....
When you arrive in a new country at 2am (after mini choc ices as a meal on the plane from Kuala Lumpur).

  • First glimpse of Singapore

    21. november 2016, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Wow it's hot and humid. Went for a walk but didn't bank on the wildlife we saw... Have enjoyed our first Hawker meal of roasted duck and noodles with some yummy mini pancake balls filled with syrup.

  • City Centre

    22. november 2016, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

A wander down Orchard Street, the main shopping street, which could well of been in Europe except for the high humidity. Apparently Christmas is on the way! Did a city walk that took in colonial to modern day Singapore.Læs mere

  • Botantic Gardens

    23. november 2016, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

  • Wetland Reserve and War Memorial

    24. november 2016, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

    Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve
We walked through the 202 hectares of mangroves, mudflats, ponds and secondary rainforest today. With views of Malaysia in the background it was the monitor lizards, mudskippers, white belly eagles, a pit viper snake and estuarine crocodiles that got our attention.
    Kranji War Memorial
It is Singapore's Commonwealth War Graves with over 4500 gravestones, many of which are unknown. There are also walls inscribed with 25000 names of people who lost their lives in Southeast Asia.

  • Labrador Nature Reserve and swimming

    25. november 2016, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Long walk around Singapore (south west) to the coast and Labrador Nature Reserve where old armourments and relics of the British occupation are now overgrown with forest. Looks out to the sea and the original port entrance, now flanked by container ports and looks out to sea at hundreds of container ships. Also attempted swimming at the Jurong East complex complete with wave pool and water slides, thwarted after an hour when the lighting started....... Finished up with a quick wander through China Town, buying some metal chopsticks for on the go snacking!Læs mere

  • Little India, Chinatown and the Quays

    26. november 2016, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Wandered around these areas taking in all the sights and sampling some local food. Had a guided tour around The Fullerton Hotel which used to be the post office for Singapore until 1996 and is mile zero. Monsoon well underway this afternoon but managed to avoid the worst. It's not only snowing at home but here outside a shopping mall in the city centre!Læs mere

  • Kent Ridge walking

    27. november 2016, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Walked along the Kent Ridge - scene of the last and most savage fighting in Singapore in WW2. Lots of bridges, walkways, art installations and gardens. Many paths in the tree tops giving a great view across the city.Læs mere

  • Gardens by the Bay

    28. november 2016, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Lovely day at the amazing 101 hectares of the Gardens by the Bay. Can see why it has won so many awards. Took most of the day to walk through the two bio-domes. The Flower Dome is a dry, Mediterranean climate that had a Christmas theme and the Cloud Forest is a tropical montane dome complete with waterfall! The rest of the themed gardens were quite impressive too.

  • Cloud Dome

    28. november 2016, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Walkways inside and outside the 'mountain' as you decend down from the top. Even some lego flowers alongside the carnivore plants.

  • Sentosa Island

    29. november 2016, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Went south to Sentosa Island and spent a leisurely day on Siloso Beach, with picnic... wandered around Clark Quay in the evening but decided against a happy hour beer at £14 a pint!

  • Palau Ubin

    30. november 2016, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

A train journey to the east then a short 10 minute bumboat ride to this island. A perfect day-trip get away on shonky mountain bikes to see unkempt expanses of jungle and tin-roofed shacks that echo a long lost era. Lovely evening having a picnic by the waterside at Bayfront followed by a 'tree' light and music show at Gardens by the Bay. Was more impressed by the surprise light and music show outside the shopping centre at Bayfront that we caught the end of and the water feature.Læs mere

  • Out and about

    1. december 2016, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Put the brollies to good use today as it's been wet all day today. Wandered up the lovely Emerald Hill today to see some of the original homes that were built here. They are right in the heart of the city now but still contain much of their original character including the saloon style doors to give privacy but allow air flow. Afterwards we went back to the Botanic Gardens to see the parts we had missed before. The bricks on the path had been made by PoW's from Australia with many of them showing an arrow that they had inscribed thenselves. We finished off at the light show again and to enjoy the view of the night skyline before we move on tomorrow.Læs mere
