    April 12, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Today everything felt so real. In less than a week i will board the train and head to cambridge. It felt so far away but now i have realized that the time will come soon. I feel my heart aching because i have to leave my hometown, the city i was born in. Even though it's only for 3 weeks i try to live the best last days here. I watch the falling water at the rheinfall in tears, as I say goodbye to the loved swiss nature around me.Read more

    En france

    April 18, 2022 in France ⋅ 🌬 50 °C

Currently I am in France. Luckily we are travelling with approximately 300kmh (186 mph for the american fellows). That means we're soon away again. We try to speak as little french as possible, due to the fact that all this is an english language stay.Read more

Does Eurostar make you feel like a star?

    April 18, 2022 in France ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

The train is very comfy. There is much room for your legs and there is a fancy red carpet on the floor. It was the first time I ever had security instructions on board of a train. The only downside of this train is that they charge a lot for drinks and snacks. In the gare du nord train station were many people but after waiting for 1.5 hours we finally managed it to get on board. The train departed with a slight delay of about 50min. First I thought its a DB train but since they don't speak german so I assume, I'm heading in the right direction.Read more

    The first school day

    April 19, 2022 in England ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Since my last post, a lot happened.
Yesterday, after arriving in Cambridge Station and being picked up by Guy (a funny and nice Guy from the language school, and yes Guy is actually his name) we got distributed to five different cabs, which took us to our host families.
My host family is very nice. The mother is very charming and cool. The dad is a liverpool fan and cool, too. I don't know anything about the son yet, because he stayed in his room all the evening gaming. But since at home I do that too, I can pretty much relate to him.
So that evening we talked a lot and then I went to a comfy even a bit too soft bed.
I slept more or less good, but my room got very cold.
In the morning I got up at 7. My host mom had prepared a variety of different cereals and some sweet croissants she had bought at the local Spar. After I had finished my breakfast I was ready to leave the orange brick house.
The first bus has never arrived at my bus stop but luckily, the second one did. It is very frustrating to drive in a bus at the morning, due to the many traffic jams. At least I had a great view on the yellow number plates since I sat at the 1st floor.
In the school we all had to do an exam. And this exam was 100 boring multiple choice questions long. Afterwards we received some informations and got split up into classes. I made it into the advanced one. In our class 9 from 11 students can speak german and 8 of them are swiss, so everything felt pretty normal. The teachers were nice and we talked a lot about random things with them. This school has not a tight schedule as the Kanti has.
We passed the noon break near the train station searching something eatable which was also payable. Eventually we found a supermarket with a nice student deal.
The afternoon lesson were rather boring, so we had to entertain ourselves and involve the teacher in more interesting conversations.
After classes were done, we got a guided tour through the many colleges and old houses of cambridge. Generally speaking, it is a wonderful city with very charming narrow streets and an interesting architecture style.
The only downside of the city is its public transportation. Since I arrived none of the two busses were on time and I had to wait 60 minutes on just one day. It was a gamble wether the bus will take you to the right place because even the bus drivers didn't knew were they're heading. And they were very stressed.
Now I am eating a strange ham-salami-minced meat pizza and later I'll be watching football in a pub or here at home.

I did it! I found them!

    April 19, 2022 in England ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

I don't want to ruin this moment with too many words. Its wonderful.
On our way back to the city center, after buying some thing in a local supermarket, we spotted it.

We found it. We did it. I am proud of it. I wanne greet my grandma and ace (the lovely dog of my host family (he watched liverpool vs manchester with me too))Read more

    The heights if cambridge

    April 20, 2022 in England ⋅ 🌙 11 °C

Today I was confronted with my biggest fear. Heights (Not really but emotions give more views). We climbed on the highest mountain (you have to be very dutch to call it a mountain) in this region. It was a big effort and it took us about 30 seconds to climb those exhausting 6 meters (20 feet) to the top. The view though was worth it. We saw a beautiful sunset and the ancient skyline of Cambridge.
I still like it here in Cambridge. But the excited (and hyperactive) dog starts to get a bit annoying. If a dog can have ADHS he has the strongest mutation of it.

    Happy Birthday to her Majesty

    April 21, 2022 in England ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

I know I'm one day late. But no one realised because there was really not much going on. There was no party or something like that. Therefore we walked around the city on ourselves and enjoyed the evening. We ate fudge, some kind of caramelish chocolate thing, and a really good pizza. And finally we started waiting for our busses. Mine was ON TIME!!!Read more

    London

    April 23, 2022 in England ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

At 6 in the morning we got up to travel to London. The Bus was on time so was the train. At London King's Cross we found ourselves on a very long escalator. Our guide guided us towards the queens residence. Sadly she wasn't at home, so we were not able to meet her. We walked through St. James Park and saw some ducks. Later we met them again in a Chinese restaurant. We saw Big Ben, the westminster and the house of parlament. The guide learned us some vocab to describe a notorious lier, one of which is Boris Johnson. We walked to Covet Garden were we were allowed to spend 4 hours on ourselves. Finn forced us to go to the Supreme store with him. After that we walked through the china town. We mistook the London Opera for a shopping mall, and just walked in. Later we gathered at covet garden again and met Len from Oxford. After chatting a bit with him we walked to the british museum. Unfortunately, we saw the queue before we saw the museum and therefore decided not to waste our time waiting to go in. Alternatively, we went to see the enormous St.Pauls cathedral and the millennium bridge. Eventually all good times have to end and so we had to go back to Kings Cross to board the train back to Cambridge. At the station we were reminded that we are still in the UK as all the trains were either delayed an cancelled.Read more

    Ely and the second week

    April 30, 2022 in England ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

This week was very fun apart from 22.5 hours of school. I mean Yes, I learn a lot and yes, my class which still consists of 80% German speakers is very cool and fun but its still school. We have some nice teachers which are quite chilled about talking, phones and not doing boring grammar but on the opposite side we’ve got some that think it’s a university auditorium and we are not allowed to have fun. And the thing that is most annoying is that Kanti Schaffhausen booked us extra lessons on Friday afternoon. WE ARE THE ONLY STUDENTS WHO ARE IN SCHOOL AT THAT TIME. The school’s student composition is also quite odd. There are only older and younger people but no peers (that’s one of my vocab).
After the eager time in school, we always do something in the city. Yesterday we tried to get into the towns most elegant pub. They had a very strict security guards which didn’t gloss over the fact that we are underaged. We ended up playing billiard in a bowling centre.
Today we visited Ely. Ely is an idle minute town next to Cambridge, which only earned the city name because of the impressive cathedral in its centre. That cathedral is wonderful. It’s a mix between gothic and roman architecture. Our guide told us a lot about the history and the myths of the cathedral and its bishops. No one dared to tell him that it was not as interesting as he might thought it would be. Next to the main cathedral is a smaller but still lovely church called the lady chapel. It was built to admire Maria. The guide told us that he thinks that the maria statue is ugly and has a push up bra. Personally, I think only the statue’s pose is weird, since it looks like she’s about to jump into a pool. Let me know in the comments what you think about it.
After the long tour we walked through the small but pretty core of Ely. We were at a market and ended up eating the Sainsbury meal deal at the river ‘Great Ouse’. Finally we got back to the train station and took the train back to Cambridge where we sat down in front of kings college and enjoyed the great weather.
