Oooh... I might have a little Crush...

Firstly, I am back at the hotel again... obviously... the second day done. I actually had a better day than I expected, bodywise... I didn't ache as much as I did yesterday, but I think this has to do with the fact that when I stopped for lunch I topped up the panadol osteo...

I'm between Con and VIP do and am getting ready for a night out on the town. Sydney is in a bit of a uproar streetwork wise, owing to the light rail they are trying to build. Every taxi driver I speak too is apparently sticking pins in their TPTB voodoo dolls.

This afternoon the panel with Julianna Harkavy and Matt Ryan was on.... oooohhhh... I think I might have developed a bit of a crush... Matt is a sight to behold... he gives of a very Michael Hurst vibe I find incredibly attractive...

Can't write for long... must head out...

    Olympic Park Sydney

    June 16, 2018 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

I've been waiting about 10 years to drop this beauty... and today presented the perfect opportunity!

If you remember a show called "Whose Line is it Anyway?" They used to play a game called "Superheroes". The first superhero name was always called for from the audience; improbable man and Jelly Boy spring to mind. I had one name that I always thought would be perfect but I obviously never had the chance.

    Until now... Sort of

At Carlos' panel today he was asked a question by a girl. "Given that Cisco comes up with all these great nick names for Metahumans... what do you think he would call *you* or what would you call yourself?"

(for context... Carlos Valdes plays the character of Cisco Ramon on "The Flash". The character has a habit of naming the new 'super heroes/villian's in town ie 'Captain Cold' 'Reverse Flash' etc... )

Carlos explained that the fan who had asked this question had first asked it of him the day before when she had come to his table at the autograph area. He couldn't think of one then and there, so she said she would be at the panel and that she would give him time to think of one (which of course he didn't...)

So... now Carlos was left floundering trying to come up with something...

It was at this point that my brain kicked in an I said...

    CAPTAIN CONUNDRUM!

Carlos's eyes lit up and and looked at me... "YES! Yes! Captain Conundrum... I Love it!!!"

He explained that he often has a hard time deciding things so this was the absolute right name :D

So, I was very happy... I think however he may be in for a bit of a surprise when he comes to Perth next weekend. He trying to discourage people from cheering when it was discovered that he had a BA in Musical Theatre... he couldn't understand why everyone was so excited... (NIDA's here I interjected)... God knows what will happen when the WAAPA kids get wind of him being a MT geek!

Oh Man... This is probably going to be quite short as I am well and truly done in... but... DAMN what a night!

By about 5pm this evening I was fading fast... my energy was sapped and my body was killing me. but I managed to score a seat and sat chatting to a lovely girl from the Browncoats group about life, the universe and everything. She made a suggestion to a dilemma I sort of had, that I won't go into until after tomorrow... and I felt a little more rested when I got up to go to the party.

And what a party! I'm not a wine drinker... never have been... I used to react really really badly to wines, but now I believe that it is a type of preservative in them that makes me basically break out in hives. Apparently Nocking Point don't have those preservatives in their wines... because WHOABOY!!!! They have some very nice tipples... including a Red called Amell-Bec that I *loved* which is even stranger as I am CERTAINLY not a RED wine drinker.

Stephen announced that after launching the wines in Canada, Australia is the next target market... and I'm very interested....

They had these great chicken kickers doing the rounds and cheese and crackers galore... so we were well fed and wined...

After Stephen and Bec spoke about Nocking Point a band (I later learned to be 6th Avenue) came on to play... and Maaaaannn were they brilliant! Every tune right up my alley...

So by the end of the event I was ever so slightly relaxed (I must have been... I couldn't feel as much pain when I moved) and I was entertained so I headed back into town via Taxi

I am now just relaxing before bed.... but I'm not silly... I've taken a couple of panadol (to stave off a fuzzy head as much as aches and pains) and I'm slathering myself up with Physio Rub in those areas that are starting to remind me they are there... That along with a makeshift water bottle and I'm good to go...

    Night all!

    Olympic Park Sydney

Holy crap on a cracker! I never knew this place was so damn HUGE! I decided to risk it for a biscuit and catch the train from the city out to the venue. First mistake! The walk from the station around to the entrance nearly killed me! Fortunately I wasn't the only one with sore feet and I met some new people which is always fun.

Finally got in at 1pm and went straight to the ticket booth to get all my tokens for the next two days... GOD BLESS VIP!!!!!

Then came the wandering... and the wandering... and the wandering...

Apparently this year they have opened a second pavilion for the con so it is split between two... more space... but more walking!

Finally after having a "Chip of a Stick" (we call them Hurricane Potatoes in Perth) I headed into the DC Legends Panel. I opted not to ask questions in this one as the ones I want to ask are for individuals so it's better to try for their single panels. But the banter was good and the four guests Carlos (Cisco; The Flash) Stephen (Oliver: Arrow) Julianna (Dinah: Arrow) Matt (Constantine: Legends of Tomorrow) were brilliant - even when the inevitable cringe worthy "I've written a script..." question was thrown their way...

I'm now off to wait for the Nocking Point wine tasting... If I am still upright I will update!

    Hilton Hotel Sydney

    June 14, 2018 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

    Final post for today.

Got back the hotel in time for nibbles at the Executive lounge. One thing I have learned about staying in hotels... if you are there for a convention or a weekend where you aren't going to be doing much, then if the hotel has an executive option with a lounge etc sometimes it's cheaper to get that than pay for you room, breakfasts and dinners. For the extra I have access to a continental breakfast in the morning, the lounge all day free to nibble on the tidbits on offer and help myself to tea/coffee and soft drinks and then in the afternoon, a quasi high tea and canapes and alcoholic drinks from 6-8... by the time you have amuzebouched your way around the tasting plates... you really don't want anything else heavy.

So... suitably noshed and washed I am ready for bed!

Tomorrow is the first day of the con and it should be quite interesting!

    Vivid Nails Salon Sydney

    June 14, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Got to the hotel around 12 but my room wasn't ready. That's fine, I expected that... so I decided to look at getting something done about my woefully chewed nails (yes, yes, I know... bad habit!). A quick scout around google and I found a wonderful little place called Vivid Nails just a couple of streets away.

Finding said nail salon was a little more challenging as it's located inside an office building... I got off on the 8th floor and saw employment and immigration offices and thought I was at the wrong place... then that unmistakable smell of nail polish remover wafted in my direction... around the corner and.... BINGO!

Frankie and Rei could not have been more wonderful... I've never had acrylics before so I didn't know what to expect... but it wasn't rough or nasty... just a great experience... very pleased with the end result... kinda matches my hair now!

    Qantas Domestic terminal sydney

    June 14, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

The flight over was uneventful, and I even managed to get a little bit of sleep.

It's been 20 years since I have been in Sydney... literally. November 1998 was the last time (and that was for a science fiction convention too!) and prior to that... try 1982!!!!

I'm just waiting for my bags and then I am into a taxi and hoping off into the centre of Sydney to the Hilton where I will set up shop for the next four days!

    Perth Domestic Airport

    June 14, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

After much pfaffing around with the lost keys I made it on time as I had planned. I *TOTALLY* Scored when it came to park at the airport. Because I booked and paid so far in advance I managed to get the FASTRACK parking undercover and monitored for less than the cost of Long Term... Sweet!

I must say... the scrambled eggs at the Qantas Business Lounge are actually very good! Must off time to board... will post again from Sydney!

Well this was an auspicious start to the journey! I could not for the life of me find my damn house and car keys... something I needed to enable me to get to the airport to catch my damn plane!

Fortunately... Mum's spares came to the rescue... I know my keys are in the house... I'm just not going to stress about them until I get home Monday!
