    • Day 63

      Belgrade, Serbia

      August 1, 2022 in Serbia ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

We made it to the capital of Serbia (not Siberia - I have to keep reminding myself that). The kids had a rough car ride this go around, which means our grown up energy was lower than usual. The normal kid things, "she looked at me" or " she's touching me" kind of things. Everyone was ready to get out of the car. We decided to take them to a park, feed them and the venture to the zoo before checking into our hotel.

The girls decided they would nickname this zoo either "The Zoo of White Animals" or "The Wolf Zoo." This zoo had white lions, white tigers, white wolves, fancy white birds and white swans. Dozens of large artic wolves were spread throughout the zoo. One of them even had a baby and it was so cute! The girls were surprised to find a momma kangaroo with a little baby joey just chilling in her pouch. It was so adorable. Something a bit less cute, but still memorable was watching a hippo splatter poop all over the wall. My favorite animal, the peacock, just roamed as they pleased throughout the zoo grounds. And once we were caught off guard by a beautiful rooster hanging out behind a bush. We also saw a full grown bermise python, which reminded me how glad I am that Seth did not keep his snakes I bought him years ago. Too big for me!

The zoo was built within old fortress walls, so you could see this cool fortress while touring the zoo. Along one of the fortress walls there was a stone ramp with ponies. One of the ponies just trotted right up to the girls and nuzzled Addy through the cage. Pretty fun! It made for a unique layout for sure. It also offered a cafe (with actual good coffee) and ice cream around every turn. They were strategic about some of these and placed one near the petting zoo and playground, so parents could relax. We definitely took advantage of this. Lastly, we hit the park. We had to pull them away for check-in, but it was fun while it lasted.

This zoo made them miss their NC cousins, because it had some of Ada and Mae's favorite animals! We love and miss those girls!

We ended our day with a second ice cream (made from unicorn rainbow milk) and a real burger with a bun! We have not seen a burger with a bun in quite sometime, because here a burger is just the meat usually.

Everyone went to bed surprisingly early, despite their second ice cream. Tomorrow we are off yet again to see another piece of Serbia.

      From here we charge slow

      August 31, 2022 in Serbia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

You remember the last charging stop at Shell in Croatia? That was pretty much the last HPC (High Performance Charger) from there on I was happy to get CCS 50 kWh if at all.
Well, the route is the journey, right. Have simple lunch while charging and getting some unfiltered sun drive the car with a spectacular range of almost 400 km. Insane, at home, I can only reach 250 km max on the highway. With the empty streets and average speed of about 115 km/h more range is possible.
Really frustrating was though the situation in Serbia with the free HPC charger on the mount routes. Literally non of them was working for me and even the paid ones did not work, that resulted in unplanned hotel stays which offer AC (11 kWh) chargers which is fast enough to charge full over night. Though, very very stressful when you run out of range and no chargers are in reach. Tesla Chargers are not available for non Tesla cars in Serbia, so I took remaining necessary range from a AC charger at Ikea. That charging time using for calling all hotels in Belgrade which listed with EV Chargers at Booking.com. Luckily I did call them, as some of them did not offer even though listed.

      Die „Schäl Sick“

      October 30, 2023 in Serbia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

      Belgrade

      August 21, 2023 in Serbia ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

After our night bus, we walked with our bags through the city in the heat and we arrived to hostel around 10am. We were thankfully able to drop bags and have something to eat at the hostel.

We are staying in ‘New Belgrade’ about a 30min walk into the centre, right along to Danube River. We decided to walk along the water into the city centre to explore the city before our room was ready.

We visited the Nikola Tesla museum which was really interesting and we learnt about how the Serbian scientist revolutionised the uses of electricity in a very practical and in-depth manner. The tour guide showed a few experiments where we saw Tesla's alternating currents in use (such as an experiment where lightning was formed and 'light saber' type objects were held in the area and were lit up by the electricity!) The museum is also a memorial to Tesla and contains his original patents, personal items and even his ashes.

After the museum, we walked through the main square of Belgrade, Republic Square, on the way back to our hostel.

We chilled in our room for a bit, freshened up and then went out for dinner along the water in at a traditional family restaurant. We had cevapi in kaymak cheese and a traditional Serbian pork/vegetable stew which was absolutely delicious and very filing! We also had some lovely home made bread! We definitely appreciated the walk back to the hostel after dinner before a much needed sleep.

🇷🇸 Belgrade: it's time to say goodbye!

      April 10 in Serbia ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Unfortunately we have to leave this city. For now, among the cities visited, it is certainly the largest, most modern, most expanding and a real European and global Capital city. It really seems being in Eastern EU more than in the Balkans.

We saw a lot, almost everything, but to really enjoy the city without rushing and also experience its nighlife (clubs, bars, parties, etc.) probably you need a full weekend. A good excuse to return!

      Belgrad

      August 7, 2023 in Serbia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

      Belgrad, mein erstes Mal

      October 3, 2023 in Serbia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Echt Urlaub!

      Willkommen im Hotel Jugoslavija

      August 20, 2023 in Serbia ⋅ 🌙 29 °C
