      Eine wirkliche Oase

      July 7 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

      Wir haben wieder einen sehr entspannten und schönen Tag verbracht. In der Anlage gibt es wirklich viel zu entdecken. Viele kleine Wege, ruhige Plätzchen zum Entspannen mit Granatäpfelbäumen und diversen Blumen und Pflanzen. Zwischendrin mal ein Igel, ein Pfau, kleine Kätzchen und diverse andere Tiere. Wenn wir nicht wüssten, dass wir in der Türkei wären, fühlt es sich einwenig nach Dschungel an.
      Es blieb viel Zeit zum Spazieren, Schwimmen, Entspannen, Lesen und für sportliche Aktivitäten. Wir freuen uns auf mehr davon 😀      Read more

      08.07.- 10.07.

      July 10 in Turkey ⋅ 🌬 32 °C

      Wir genießen weiterhin die erholsamen Tage und sind etwas faul was fotografieren und schreiben angeht 😅. Die Erholung ist da ☺️. Außerdem wird soviel geboten, daß einfach nicht viel Zeit bleibt. Ein kurzer Shopping Ausflug nach Sarigerme stand auf dem Programm. Ansonsten ist für jeden etwas geboten. Tagsüber, sowie die wirklich schönen Abendangebote. Ob Shows, Open Air Kino, Public Viewing oder einfach nur am Strand tanzen. Die Beachpartys sind einfach fantastisch. Eins der Spezialitäten Restaurants auf der Dachterrasse konnten wir schon genießen. Das andere testen wir dann am Samstag. Gestern wurde es etwas später, aber heute bleibt natürlich auch wieder viel Zeit zum Erholen. Einmal Bananaboot fahren und man ist wieder fit 🤣. Marco ist gerade Kajak fahren und ich nutze mal die Zeit für ein kurzes Update bei einem Eiskaffee am Strand. Wir hoffen noch auf kleine schlüpfende Minischildkröten. Die Eier liegen gut geschützt und gekennzeichnet überall verteilt am Strand. Mal schauen....Read more

      Fethiye und Nationalpark Saklikent

      July 18 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

      Mit unserem Mietwagen ging es vorbei an unzähligen mit Störchen besetzten Storchennestern und einer sehr grünen Landschaft zuerst nach Fethiye. Dort schlenderten wir durch die Altstadt mit zahlreichen hübschen Geschäften. Geshoppt wurde natürlich auch. Weiter ging es am Hafen vorbei zum Dienstagsbazar. Neben den Schmuck, Taschen und umfangreichen Bekleidungsangeboten, gab es eine Vielfalt an Obst, Gemüse, Käseständen und zahlreichen anderen Leckereien. Im Hafen auf einen Snack eingekehrt, konnten wir um die 10 großen Schildkröten beobachten, die sich an der Kaimauer tummelten und aßen.
      Danach ging es weiter in den Saklikent Nationalpark. Auf dem Weg dahin wieder durch eine sehr beeindruckende, grüne Landschaft mit vielen hübschen, kleinen Restaurants an der Straße.
      Auf in die Felsmauern befestigten Stegen erreichten wir zu Fuß die Klamm und mussten danach an einem eiskalten Wasserfall den Fluss überqueren. Das war definitiv eine Abkühlung. Danach ging es weiter durch eine beeindruckende Schlucht und Felsformationen.
      Der Schlamm in der Schlucht soll eine heilende Wirkung haben, daher haben wir es den anderen nachgemacht und uns damit eingerieben. Bis jetzt merken wir noch keinen Unterschied, aber kommt bestimmt noch 🤣....gegen Abend ging es dann zurück in unser kleines Paradies und obwohl wir echt, u.a.von der Hitze, platt waren, wurde der Abend mit unseren Urlaubsbekannten doch wieder ausgiebiger als gedacht.       Day 15

      Einfach gut gehen lassen....

      July 20 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

      Wenn wir nicht gerade die Landschaft per Mietwagen oder per Boot mit Emil erkunden, oder uns anderen Aktivitäten widmen, ist unsere nächste Lieblingsbeschäftigung das Essen genießen 😆und es uns einfach gut gehen zu lassen, auch gerne bei einem leckeren Getränk. Es muss ja nicht immer Alkohol sein. Es gibt auch türkischen Tee, Ayran, diverse Lassis und Fruchtsäfte an der Tropical Bar.
      Abends mal schnell nach Sarigerme rein. Ein kleiner überschaubarer Ort mit netten Shoppingmöglichkeiten (überhaupt nicht aufdringlich, wie man meinen mag, man kann in Ruhe schauen, alle super lustig, wir haben eher unseren Spaß 😄), Bars und Restaurants.
      Marie trifft man hier regelmäßig mit ihren Urlaubsbekanntschaften 🤣 an.

      Day 15

      Weil es so schön war....

      July 20 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

      Wir haben Emil wirklich ins Herz geschlossen. Gerade das "Einfache" ohne viel schnickschnack und trotzdem mit Liebe zum Detail hat uns gereizt. Daher standen nochmal andere Buchten auf dem Programm.
      Sein Boot bietet alles was man benötigt, gemütliche Liegen im Schatten oder auf Deck in der Sonne, kühle Getränke, Schnorchelausrüstung etc.
      Unser Lieblingsplatz ist am Bug mit baumelnden Füßen (Rabea kleiner Insider 🤣) in die Wellen. Emil kennt sich aus. Erklärt uns die Küstenabschnitte, die Meeresbewohner, denen wir begegnen, schnorchelt mit uns durch Höhlen und reicht uns saftige Wassermelone die wir beim Baden im Meer verspeisen.
      Zwischendurch Sprünge vom Boot ins mehr oder wenige kühle Nass und die ganz Mutigen konnten von der Klippe springen (Marco Respekt 😅).
      Auf der Hinfahrt verlor Emil kurzzeitig durch einen Windstoß seine Kapitänsmütze. Diese war ein Geschenk eines deutschen Urlaubers. Deshalb drehte er um und beim zweiten Anlauf und mehreren Wendemanövern fischte sein Helfer die Mütze aus dem Meer. Wir alle auf dem Boot klatschten und jubelten, so als wäre der Touriflieger gerade gelandet 🤣.
      Ein Felsen wird Schildkrötenfelsen genannt....na welcher könnte es sein 😁?

      day 4- Blue mosque, Sophia Hagia, Grand

      What a beautiful full day we have had!!! walking, walking, walking - glorious weather and day one with our tour. So far we are really impressed. our tour guide is knowledgeable and communicates so much about türkiye easily. A really nice collection of people in the group too.
      we began our day being dropped off in the old town - traffic is horrific - not surprising given population in instanbul is over 20 million in a space slightly bigger than new york. We went to the beautiful hippodrome- a sporting and entertainment ground built in 203 AD - with a rich roman, greek and turkish history and many monuments including the monolithic obelisk which has bronze made from roman soldiers shields during battles!!! We visited the BEAUTIFUL Blue Mosque and learned so much about architecture, islam and Türkiye followed by a tour of the Sophia Hagia of 532 which has been the grand mosque, a church and museum and still a mosque now. The mosaics were amazing, the painting and rendering incredible especially the history of what lay beneath some paint - images of christ and angels faces and the history of architecture so interesting - ie dome design etc
      then we went to the basilica. unbelievable! a water filtration and storage system built underground by about 7000 slaves in 532 and held 80,000 cubic metres of water! it’s massive. it’s beautiful and obviously now empty except for the water under the walk way - the columns and arches are beautiful and now home to sculptures and art work. Amazingly over time the underground basilica was forgotten until an old lady kept complaining of hearing water dripping under her floor. they dug it up and found this basilica cistern. it has 336 columns - each one different - is referred to as the sunken palace. photos don’t do justice.
      then we walked forever and ever through the busy streets and bizarre to the golden horns bridges and caught a ferry. The ferry was amazing - rocky, windy, and choppy water owing to the fact that it connects the Black Sea with the Marmara Sea and Dardanelles Strait. on one side of ferry was europe and the other side asia. Lots of boats out including two tankers on the way to the Ukraine:(
      after our 1 1/2 hour ferry ride we walked to the grand spice bizarre - wow wow wow! words escape me- incredibly beautiful!
      Then we walked to a roof top restaurant for dinner and to watch the sunset over a grand mosque and the old city. We have had the fullest day and enjoyed it so much.      Read more

      Getting there

      After Shutterfly shut down their web hosting service that served as our platform for travels, I was planning to lay low this trip. Well, that doesn’t seem to be happening. So, hold on, we have some catchin’ up to do!

      Leaving at the reasonable hour of 11:30am suited us well after many a trip that saw us arriving at the airport before most people were still in heavenly slumber.

      Leaving our trusty Subaru in the Economy lot (21 days is a lot of parking!) we grabbed the shuttle to the terminal. Through security in a flash, gotta love Spokane, and on to our gate to begin our 3-plane, 23+ hour travel day.

      I only found about an hour of sleep on the trip across the pond and an additional 30 minutes from Amsterdam to Istanbul. Kim and Myah found better success in grabbing some Zzzs while Brendan fared about the same as me.

      The only things of note during our air travel was Myah's seeking of a commitment that we visit the Netherlands in the future for more than a view of the inside of their international airport and the shudder that went through the plane when a flight attendant announced that due to a luggage handling breakdown, none of the checked luggage had made it aboard the plane! Now we know why we were late taking offs this is exactly why we always travel carry-on only!      Read more

      J140-143-Istanbul - partie 1

      Hello les amis, on vous a pas trop manqué ? 😁

      Petit récapitulatif de la première partie des 7 jours passés à Istanbul. Comme vous pouvez vous en douter, les bicyclettes et les jambes sont restées au repos 😴

      Après s’être installés à notre premier hostel, le Bahaus, situé en plein cœur de Sultanamet (centre ville historique), on se balade dans les rues du quartier bordées de restaurants et d’alpagueurs.

      Durant les 4 premiers jours, on fait plusieurs rencontres à l’auberge, dont celles de Francesco, Josh et Fleur, deux anglais et une néerlandaise avec qui on regardera les demies-finales de l’Euro, en passant ensemble du rire aux larmes 🥲
      Quel que soit le résultat, on a su faire la fête pour se consoler 😌

      Le matin c’était petit-déjeuner gratuit jusqu’à 10h. Avec Jambe le réveil sonnait pour des petits tête à tête avant d’aller se recoucher 😏

      La journée, on visite ensuite les quartiers de Sultanamet, de Galata, mais aussi le grand bazar (vraiment très grand), le bazar aux épices et de multiples mosquées.

      Suivant les conseils de deux italiens, on s’est retrouvé embarqués dans les bains turcs typiques. On a profité du sauna, du bassin froid authentique et des masseurs. Ceux-ci étaient des vieux turcs bedonnants, qui nous ont épluché la peau et ont passé Rémi et Dimitri au rouleau compresseur 🏥

      Ces journées ont été riches en rencontres et en découvertes 🙃

      Day in Istanbul, Turkey

      What a crazy place Istanbul is! There are SO many people here, and everyone is going somewhere very fast. Cars honk constantly, just as a form of communication. Not a sign of anger, or danger - it’s very different. Chaotic is the only word I’d use to describe the city.

      This is a VERY old city with so much history - Istanbul is what was ancient Constantinople, and is the largest city in Europe. Had no idea.

      We went to the Blue Mosque, which sadly was under construction inside so didn’t see much. Pretty from the outside tho. The skyline is littered with mosques and towers.

      We also went to a few squares and saw an Egyptian obelisk that was brought here by the Roman’s in like 350ad. Seem to find Egyptian relics in lots of cities. Kind of sad so many were taken from there.

      We went to the Topaki palace, and discovered we just don’t seem to like palaces very much. 😂 they’re interesting, but just not our thing, I guess. Very pretty gardens tho.

      I have found I LOVE boat rides … any and all boat rides in any city. Jordan, not so much, but she kindly humors me and comes along. So we took one down the Bosphorus River. Beautiful. And a fact I didn’t know - Istanbul sits on two continents. Half is in Europe, and half is in Asia - separated by the river. Who knew?? Once we got off got some street food and jordan befriended a street cat that was really loving.

      Our highlight of the day was going to the Basilica Cistern. It was an old aqueduct way back when underground that they’ve now made into a tourist attraction by lighting it up and such. It was really unique, pretty and a great way to get out of the heat!

      The poverty here is intense in places. There are trams that run on the streets and we saw barefoot young kids hanging on the back to get a free ride. And the absolute worst I’ve seen here is mothers and their children sitting on the sidewalks with the trash dumped out between them sorting thru it looking for edible discarded food. Terrible.       J144-148-Istanbul - partie 2

      July 12 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

      Pour la deuxième partie de la semaine, on bouge au Lola backpacker hostel, une auberge beaucoup plus calme dans le quartier de Galata.

      On y fait moins de rencontres mais on profite de nos derniers jours à 5 puisque Jambe nous quittera à partir de Sofia 🥲

      Le jour, on a pu visiter le quartier de Balat, avec ses couleurs flash et son style bobo. On a fait un tour de bateau sur le détroit du Bosphore, qui nous a permis de voir l’étendue d’Istanbul et de ses quartiers. On est aussi allé voir le coucher de soleil du côté asiatique avec Francesco.

      Le cadre de vie était reposant, avec des restaurants abordables tout autour de l’hostel et des petits chatons pour s’amuser dans la pièce de vie commune ☺️

      On clôture la semaine par une soirée à la Volkswagen Arena (stade de l’équipe de basket du Galatasaray), avec une scénographie mémorable 🤩

      On est maintenant dans le bus en direction de la Bulgarie et de sa capitale Sofia 🚌 par miracle, les vélos sont rentrés dans la soute, mais non sans mal.

      On quitte la Turquie, pays dans lequel on a passé le plus de temps. On dit au revoir à sa population, à ses spécialités et à toutes ces choses qui la rendent unique !
