A historic city on the Algarve, Faro was the last Moorish stronghold in Portugal. Walking the sun bleached cobbled streets you see the hustle and bustle of a thousand tourists, with locals tending to their every need. The architecture is reminiscent of a lot of Spanish cities that had once been occupied by the Moors. A mix of Moorish, Spanish and Roman features; the statues of local saints hidden in high places to bless the area. Portugals capital sits at the mouth of the longest river on the Iberian peninsula. It’s a very colourful and vibrant place with lovely coffee booths dotted around. A nice place to explore on foot, although it’s quite hilly. It feels very safe and it has some incredible architecture. MY GOD DOES THE RAIN STOP. A very rainy, very historic city. A labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets that all seem to loop you back to the same place. I think it would be worth visiting in the summer and when all the metro works have been completed!Read more
Absolutely the most magnificent city I have ever visited. Beautiful ancient corridors between colossal pink sandstone edifices. A collision of baroque, Romanesque, gothic & renaissance architecture that all merges together triumphantly. I can see why it’s called the cultural capital of Europe as it is truly the most European city I have visited. Shame about the weather!Read more

The remainder of the town was built around it and basically housed many of the dukes and royals of Spain from the 14th century until the 1800s. The cathedral was built in the 1600s but wasn’t furnished until hundreds of years later!Read more
A history of conquest, inquisition and war. Madrid is a maze of historic buildings, shopping centres and cafes. I can’t say it’s been my favourite city but it’s definitely interesting! Arguably too busy and rainy but, we move.Read more
