    Sorrento, Italy

    April 27, 2016 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

    Day 21,22 and 23 Sorrento

    I visited the Amalfi coast.
The roads are very winding and i got a bit car sick so i didnt go as far down the coast as i expected to.
But Alas it was still very nice.
I sat on the beach and ate a panini.

I could see the coast on the way back on the bus.

I have left sorrento and am on my way back to Naples to catch a plane to Sicily.
    I am very excited.

  • Day 26

    Palermo, Italy

    April 30, 2016 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

    Day 24,25 and 26 Palermo

I have spent the last 3 days in Sicily. In its capital Palermo.
Palermo is busier then i thought, much like the main land.
Here i have done lots of markets.

I visited 1 of the best beaches in Sicily just north of Palermo called Mondello.
It had beautiful water and unreal sand. Felt like the Bahamas.

I visited the The Capuchin Catacombs of Palermo.
Now i was told there was skeletons here.
But basically its a massive graveyard with an underground cellar FULL OF DEAD BODIES.
Im talking like hundreds of skeletons.
Basically if u died in the area and could afford it you were mummified in this cellar of death.
There was rows and rows of bodies, some STILL HAD THEIR SKIN ON THEIR FACE.
They were all still in the clothes they were "buried" in.
    It was super weird.
I wasnt allowed to take photos but ill google it and add some so you can understand.

On my last night in Palermo i had the most beautiful Swordfish for dinner.

I have not seen any obvious Sicilian Mafia...... but im sure theyve seen me. dun dun DUUNNN!

    Im heading to Cefalu tomorrow.

  • Day 28

    Cefalù, Italy

    May 2, 2016 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

    Day 27,28 and 29 Cefalu

My next stop in Sicily was a small town Cefalu.
Unfortunately for me, the whole time i was there, it was cold and constantly raining.

The rain was a real issue as many places shut as no one was out and about.

Even tho Cefalu is a semi touristy town, it is still dominated by the local customs eg
Stores open from 9am-1pmish then shut untill 4.30pm and stay open until 9pmish.
Quite unusual to shut in what id consider the peak hours that people wander the city after lunch.

Also no restaurants opened before 7pm. Most of them not until 8pm.

You are supposed to go to a bar at about 6pm to drink then go to dinner at 9pm.

But you can get pizza any time of the day.

I had about 2 hours of sunshine that i walked through the tiny streets. I found this place to be one of the more authentic towns.

    My next stop is Taormina.

  • Day 30

    Taormina, Italy

    May 4, 2016 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

    Day 30 Taormina Sicily

Wow at the 30 day mark. Where has the last month gone.

    I am in beautiful Taormina.
Only here for 1 day but i spent most of it at Isola Bella and down the main shopping street.

Isola bella is basically a beach with this little island that has a a house type thing in it.
But the whole scene is very beautiful.
Here i sat in a lounge chair and drank (3) pinacoldas.
BUT, it took me 30 mins of STAIRS to get to and from it.
It wasn't raining for once, but was pretty overcast for most of the day. I was hoping to get a tan after 4 weeks of wearing jeans, but alas, my legs remain pale.
I did get a massage tho.

The city is on a hill like Cefalu so wandering around met any time i went downhill, id eventually have to go back up.
Needless to say, my calves are now rock solid.

Here ive had my first encounter of the Mt Etna stuff. They sell lots of stuff supposedly made of lava stone.

I head to Catania tomorrow, my final stop in Sicily and of my trip all together. (Besides getting back to Rome to fly home.)

Also i found some of those flowers we have in the front garden. But these were a purple version.

  • Day 33

    Catania, Italy

    May 7, 2016 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

    Day 31,32,33 Catania

So for my last city in Sicily and my last for the trip was Catania.
i'm not gonna lie, i was very tired for the 3 days i was there.
So i didnt do that much. But thats okay.

I tried to do a tour of Mount Etna but was a bit last minute and couldnt find one that wasnt a full day of hiking.

The local delicacy of Catania is Horse meat.
I nearly tried it, but chickened out and had a pork chop instead.
