    June 11, 2019 in the Netherlands ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

  • Heading to Australia

    June 12, 2019 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

China Southern Airlines, thank you for the delicious food!

And thank you aunt and uncle for the kind support!

  • A day in the suburban area

    June 13, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

I went to 'oma' with my auntie to clean the house for a bit and go out for lunch. We went to a Foodcourt to have a nice bite.

In the evening we all sat together to enjoy one of the meals one of my aunties prepared (for which I had made marvelous garnishes). After, I got an impetuous presentation from an uncle about the Aussie Bush; we were all in awe. Good day.Read more

  • Ka-an Hawkers!

    June 14, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Today I went to grab some lunch with 'oma' and auntie Mieke. Before they arrived at the Glen I tried to set up my freshly brought simcard. For some reason I could only get a prepaid one that's valid for 28 days; can't do a contract, no sir! Was strange to hear but okay.

I was hoping to see 'opa' but it couldn't be combined with the footy game. I hope to see him soon.

After I was dropped off home again, I tried to get some cash from the ATM. Did not work (turned out in hindsight I had to inform Rabobank about my Pacific endeavours, oh well).

I went to my uncle's store for a magnificent tour and after which we quickly departed for some Nando's and the footy game.

It was a night filled with profound cunning. A true boy's night.

  • Groceries and homework

    June 15, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Had to do some homework today, luckily I had some TimTams to ease the progress. Afterwards I went out to Coles for some groceries. I love getting Bundaberg ginger beer in the Netherlands, but it's crazy expensive there! Here, it's so much cheaper :) The supermarket made no sense and seemed crazy big. Strolled around for an hour or so.

Walking home I felt a shower of sunlight for just a tick. Lovely.

  • Sunday church day

    June 16, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Had a talk with wonderful people too, simply beautiful.

  • Sporty day

    June 17, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Went for a run down there. Beautiful little forest out of nowhere. When I came back I helped out Mieke with some gardening. Had a great dinner today too (roasted lamb). Afterwards I went to play some tennis with Axel and his mates. Badminton is up next time ;))))Read more

  • First day around Flinders

    June 18, 2019 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 8 °C

Great day! Today I went to the inner city and it was gorgeous! It took a long time to get from east to the centre but it was all good eventually. While checking in using my Myki I saw this bloke hanging around. At the same time I noticed these girls not checking in (outrageous I know) I asked this fellow how often the officials would have check ups. He told me they rarely set foot on that tramline. I kept that in mind while I endeavoured to Flinders Street.

A MERE FEW CENTURIES LATER, I finally arrived, and the city centre was at my own two feet.

I walked about for just a tick to get a good general impression of the city. It looked stunningly beautiful. I walked past the bridge (which was equally stunning) to get a view of the Yarra, the river that floats upside down (because it's dirty). Having crossed the bridge, I quickly came across a museum; the national gallery of Victoria.

I spent some time there, free of charge! They had great exhibitions, including a vast collection of European art. It was an impressive sight to behold.

Afterwards I quickly paced through the city to obtain a glimpse of its vastness.

Tomorrow I'll go for another round.

  • Library day

    June 19, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Today I went to the state library of Victoria. It was huge and luxurious. There were people with beautiful clothes at every corner to observe and greet, quite a sight to behold. I had to work on my research paper so it was a fatiguing day. On the way home I picked the correct bus, but the wrong direction. Luckily auntie came to pick me up at the bus stop :')

Had a great dinner too, there was appelmoes too!

    I'm so being spoiled.

  • Rainy day

    June 20, 2019 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 7 °C

Today consisted of rain,.Yes, mostly rain. I still had to do some homework so I did that. Did some quick shopping at Cole's and then started to have a grasp at some Japanese syntax.

One of those lazy rainy days I suppose.

    Bought too many cookies.

  • Great run, great endeavours

    June 21, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Very rainy day too, but felt great. Went for a quick run (full on sprinting time, UPHILL!) and I was positively devastated when I arrived back home. Afterwards I worked on my research paper again (because it was deadline time) and finished that at 3 AM ha ha haaa. Also practised my Japanese with one of my Japanese housemates, watashi wa totemo shiawase desu! (Romanjinis already hard enough haha) I helped her out with English pronunciation (so those advanced phonetics courses finally payed off).

    Not a bad day.

  • Sunday church day

    June 23, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Today I went for a nice coffee and cake with the family. When we were finished we went to the local grocery (with all local products!) It was a lovely store. During the church's intermezzo I met some of my cousin's mates. I also spoke some Italian with a lady who is learning the language. Fun times.

We briefly stopped along the coastline to have a look at it and to take a picture in the progress.

    Be au ti ful!

  • Beach time #winter

    June 25, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Today I went to the beach. Took me about one and a half hour to reach. The weather wasn't bad either. I passed this old amusement park with the silly entrance and quickly reached the beach. After having read something near the sea I headed for a restaurant that my auntie recommend, practised a bit of Japanese syntax there.

Afterwards I headed home quickly because I had to meet up with my cousin for some badminton. He was better than I thought ;)

    Not a bad day

  • Salvos

    June 26, 2019 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 11 °C

Today I had a meeting at Salvos, an information night so to say. There they explained their policies and recruitment details. Salvos mentioned - among other things - street patrol, retail, data, and Kitchen. I'd love to do street patrol, which consists of patrolling the streets Friday and Sunday nights. I don't mind doing an entirely different job either.

At first I couldn't find the entrance, but the homeless people that were somewhat leering at me ensured me I was at the right place indeed. I asked one bloke where the entrance was, and he kindly pointed it out to me. Once inside, a man behind the counter helped me to get to the right place.

    How adventurous.

  • The Dandenong Ranges

    June 29, 2019 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

Today has been a trip to the Dandenong Ranges. The weather was macabre and even dangerous (due to the wind and rain so branches might fall on ya). We went to see some cockies (the bird) but there was this eagle up and about so the cockies flew off. That's why we had met up with Axel's mates for some lunch. I had a meat pie, it wasn't bad. Afterwards we went antiquing and saw some shops. Afterwards we went to check on the cockies and luckily they were there! One of them nicked my entire nutribar out if a hand, we were stupefied.

We went to someone's house for a warm drink and a laugh. Then, we went to the youngies French dinner night where we had 3 immaculate meals! Brandon and his team: well done. It was fun to help out serving those hors d'oeuvres ;)

Towards the end my cousin Jordan arrived all the way from Queensland to join us real quick. Tomorrow he'll venture to the mountain side to skii with his mates.

It was a fun and busy day :)

  • Urban walkabout

    July 3, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Had a meeting a salvos, got two extra shifts to volunteer :) went for some shopping after a quick stay at a local coffee shop (the Australian one ;) ).

Great food! Pork ramen :))) a lady who spoke no English kindly asked me if I wanted to have a fork to eat my noodles. I asked her wether she thought I'm that bad at eating with chop sticks, but she did not understand. That's why I thanked her and then started to demonstratively demolish the noodles that were left (with my chopsticks of course).

Later, I met a Spanish guy who was reading a book near queen vic market. He lives in Madrid, but has only been living there for a month. So I told him what to do in Madrid and how the PT works; el transporto público de Madrid!!!

    Had a blast.

Made dinner for the fam tonight too.

  • Japanese

    July 14, 2019 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

    Still a lot to learn!

  • Vanderstadt meetup

    July 18, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Today my uncle Lucas came over with oma and auntie Mieke to meet up with me and Amanda. Lucas told us all about his euro trip. We spent a good afternoon there. One lovely family it is :)

  • Foreign mates

    July 20, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Today I went to a Meetup group to socialise. I taught them how to play Dutch card games. After that some of us went to a food stand for a bite. When we returned with the food some others wanted the same, so I showed them the way. The girl behind the counter was jolly and talkative so we got along well. I joked about how I expected a one dollar commission for every costumer that I'd bring along. We laughed and then she enthusiastically started to give me all types of special fried meats for free. It was the best.

After the mall experience some of us bounced to the strip next to the Yarra for some drinks. Good fun.

  • Hookup mates

    July 21, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

I spent my day with some Saudis, an American, a Korean and a bunch of Japanese. We played some games of basketball and I brought some food for everyone. Afterwards I sat down with some Japanese and helped them with their English (and they helped me with my Japanese). Some of us then went into the city for a bit. Kob and I did some shopping, went to a Shanghai street food restaurant (dumplings all the way) and went to the strip for some live music and some drinks.

    Made good friends today.

  • Immigration museum, chicken and chats

    July 27, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

I went to the immigration museum with しゅん (shun) for a laugh and some insights (but mostly for laughs). When we were done we went to a Korean chicken place for some food. He said he wasn't hungry, but wanted to eat a WHOLE LOT more when we finished our small platter. It was no surprise really.

We went to a around 30 year old only Meetup to socialise, which was great for a chat or two.

    :)
