  • Yamba to Byron Bay

    18 octobre 2020, Australie ā‹… šŸŒ™ 18 °C

We woke in Yamba after the worst nights sleep! There was not many places to Park in the town so we drove to a sports area and parked in the car park where there was some parking. There were some people pulled up there already so we thought it would be grand.
Then the pulled out an amp, mic, and a guitar and sang song after song. It was the most out of time singing we ever heard and he didn't take a breath between the songs. It was hell.
Jake watched a match during it I kept trying to go asleep. At 2.30 am Jake said that's it and he got in the drivers seat and we drove to like an industrial estate and parked there for the rest of the night. Luckily it was really quite but our sleep had been so broken we were wrecked after it!
We drove to a little park to cook breakfast and use the toilet. We then drove on as we were going to find a market but they had been on Saturday.
We went to Coles to get bits for lunch and dinner. And went to some discount shops after just for a look around.
We drove to Ballina and we cooked lunch and went for a walk. It was so windy as bad weather is expected this evening. So we sorted out bits in the van for tonight in case it does lash.
We had a little look around Ballina and then decided to drive to Byron.
We drove around Byron for a little while to see it and see all the restaurants etc which were quite busy. We then went to look for somewhere to park for the night and we found a place by the sea. We watched some Ratched on Netflix too.

  • Byron Bay to Tweed Head

    19 octobre 2020, Australie ā‹… ā›… 21 °C

We woke in Byron Bay. There was crazy thunder and lightning during the night. We had to close the windows as the seats were getting soaked and we opened the door on my side instead as the rain was blowing in the other side. We wrapped the end of my mattress is shopping bags too to stop it getting soaked.
At 6.30 am there was a loud bang and men saying wakey wakey. It was rangers who told us to move on.
We drove to the beach and had our banana. Then we read our books and had a yoghurt and watched an episode of ratched.
We drove to Tweed head and we were just at the Queensland border and could see the covid tents that were checking people to see that they had the correct pass to get through the border. We were so tired that we took out our towels and lay on grass near to some water.
After we went to the shops and got burgers and we bought chips and made them. After dinner we drove around trying to get a shower somewhere but we had no luck. We pulled up to watch some Netflix and there was showers across (showers to rinse off after the sea) so just before it got dark we rinsed our body's off. Then we got in the van and watched ratched.

  • Cabariti

    20 octobre 2020, Australie ā‹… ā›… 20 °C

We woke around 5.15 and Jake moved the van so that no rangers would fine us as we had parked in a park.
We slept till after 8.00am and felt we needed it. We had a lazy enough morning and were on a go slow which was nice.
We drove to the shops and done our washing and drying it cost $10 as we done it ourselves this time. Which actually wasn't a big job so we might do it again the next time. While we waited for them to wash and dry we had a look around the shops and got bits for lunch/dinner.
Then we sorted all the clothes out and made the bed.
We drove to Cabariti beach and cooked lunch. We then went down to lay on the beach for a while. There was so much sand blowing we were covered in it, all over our face, in our hair everything was covered. So we went up to the outside showers and washed off.
Then we watched surfers for the evening and some Netflix.
At 6.00pm Jake called David Power from Ballymore Group to see what they would offer him if he returned. He was happy enough with how the call went. He also contacted some other recruiters too just before he makes a decision on anything.
We watched a bit more Netflix and then drove to a rugby pitch to sleep.

  • Cabriti to Brunswick

    21 octobre 2020, Australie ā‹… ā›… 22 °C

We woke at the rugby pitch and drove back to Cabriti beach to wake up and brush our teeth etc. We nearly didn't get any parking with the amount of surfers that were there! Aoife called me as I was hoping to sort Rachel's b day present.
After we drove back to the rugby pitch to do our run. We were quite late so it was so warm!!
We were just leaving when Jake wanted to get drone fottage of the beach we had been at. I looked out to sea while he had it up in the air and I seen a huge group of dolphins and Jake managed to find them on the drone. It was very cool.
After that we went to Hastings Point Foreshore and it was like a shallow little creek that came in from the sea. The water was so clear and only up to our knees. So we sunbatheded there for a little while and swam.
We then drove to Murwillumbah and we bought a cooked chicken and had that for lunch as we were too hungry to wait for something to cook. We had a look around some of the shops and got some presents to bring home. The shop was so nice.
After we drove to Brunswick to stay for the night. It was I think nearly more hippier than Byron. It was mad! There was picnic tables under a open shed for people to use if they are eating at the park area and people have just moved in under the open shed and they are living there. And there was also loads of vans everywhere. There was showers in the bathrooms there so we had them there, I think they were one of our coldest yet but it was also nearly dark and the weather wasn't great so that didn't help.
After we drove and we got a pad Thai to share for dinner in a thai restaurant as Jake wasn't too hungry because he done the dog on it at lunch with the chicken šŸ˜…
We stayed at Brunswick and I went to the bathroom where we had our showers before bed and a mouse or rat jumped out when I went in which was nice šŸ™ƒ

  • Brunswick to Nimbin/Minyon Falls &back

    22 octobre 2020, Australie ā‹… ā˜ļø 16 °C

We woke up and done a workout with the pack of cards. It was hotter than expected as the sun was coming through the clouds.
We had our showers as we were roasting.
Then we had breakfast and set off to Uki. It started to lash rain and we found a new leak in the van. All the town's were so small and not much to do so we went on to Nimbin which is such a hippy area. I think even more than Byron Bay. We shared a pizza in a cafe and had a look around the shops and left. Everywhere was really green and it was all mountain areas.
We drove to Minyon falls which are ment to be fab but I think because it's coming into Summer it had started to dry up and there wasn't that much water. It took ages to get to aswell but we got some good pics on the drone. Then we drove to Coles on the way back and got bits for dinner and we stopped at Brunswick and cooked dinner. We decided to stay here again for the night as it's quite a handy area cos it's close to a few places and there is no hassle parking anywhere.

    23 octobre 2020, Australie ā‹… šŸŒ™ 18 °C

We woke up and went to an oval and done our run. It was really tough and both our legs were killing us. After we drove back to where we slept and had out showers as we were sweatinggg!
We drove to the beach at Pottspoint. First we got down the suitcases and I repierced my ears and we got down the fan because we possibly will stay in a campsite at some stage over the next few days because the weather is to get bad.
We layout on the beach for a while there was clouds out the whole time we were there but it was a really nice temperature and breeze.
After we went to a pool in Brunswick to wash and swim. Two people came in when we were there and m they were the splashiest swimmers we have ever seen šŸ˜…. In the pool was just old ladies kind of exercising and a woman with 2 kids so no one was moving around to much. Then the couple came in and we all got pinned to the sides as they started doing lengths and announced it before they got in basically saying out of the way. They were a hazard šŸ˜† the man was splashing so much I don't think he could see where we was going and he took out a little boy šŸ˜†
It was good to get showers. We were so hungry then and we were going to go get bits for dinner but Jake was dreaming about the Thai we shared the other night as it was so nice and it's hard to find one as nice. So we got it and it was delish.
We went to the shops then to get bananas etc for the morning as we parked up for the night at Brunswick.

  • Brunswick to Byron Bay

    24 octobre 2020, Australie ā‹… ā˜ļø 21 °C

We woke at Brusnwick at the oval. Two vans parked so close beside us which was annoying and ment very little wind was going through the van even though we had 2 doors open.
We left there and drove back to the bathrooms and where we slept the other nights. The weather was spitting the odd bit or rain and it was given. So we done our workout and just got it done before it started to lash. Then we had our fruit and just people watched and watched things on our phone. The rain stopped so we decided to walk around the town of Brunswick and we had a look around the shops and got a coffee.
We just got back to the car when it started to rain again. We drove to Byron and up to the lighthouse to have a look. There is some really nice views but the weather was wrecking views some so we will have to go back up when it's nice again.
The weather was non stop so we decided to go into a campsite for the night as it ment we could have the fan on, as we prob wouldn't be able to leave doors open with the rain. We eventually signed in and drove to our patch. Its a really nice campsite. We drove back into the town as the rain was so heavy and we food. We had a laugh getting up the awning again as it was bucketing down and it seemed like each time Jake took out the hammer to put the things in the ground it got heavier šŸ˜†. We eventually had it all sorted and it was so handy. Jake went to get his shower first and then I had mine. The showers were so warm and lovely it was the cleanest I have felt in a while. Then we put on a wash and dried and we watched SAS Australia. We woke during the night needing a wee but other than that we had a great sleep and it was so nice to know we didn't have to move on because a ranger was coming or we shouldn't have been there.

  • Byron Bay

    28 octobre 2020, Australie ā‹… ā˜ļø 22 °C

We woke at the campsite. It is so nice knowing waking up that there is a toilet near you if you are bursting to go. When I woke Jake was spreading reading, he wants to read as much as he can before the year is over. Jake went for a shower and I finished the video of photos/videos for Dylan's 18th b day in November.
Then I went for my shower. We were planning on making breakfast/lunch in the campsite but then realised we were out of Ketchup. We set off for Woolworths to get more but then when we were out there we decided to just eat out and cook what we had in tomorrow instead. It was delicious and I saw Tasha from home and away. She is as stunning in real life. They are also filming a movie with Nicole Kidman in Byron at the moment and they must have been filming in the town today as there was big trucks everywhere. It was cool too see and some vintage cars. Then Jake went to get his hair cut and we had a look around the shops. Then we went to Woolworths and got bits for a curry for dinner.
When we got back to the camp we chatted with our neighbours a bit and read our books. He is from Cananda and she is from New Zealand and he was telling us how we made a rainforest on his property and trained the fish in the river at his house with dog nuts. There was crazy thunder and lightening and as soon as there was a break in the rain we ran to the communal area to cook.
We were talking to a guy called Michael McDonald from Louth and his girlfriend Britney. He moved here when he was 13 with his family to Perth and now he is living in Coogee and plays for Waratahs (rugby) they were both really nice.
We went back to our van after and shared a bottle of wine and read. We put candles to stop the mosquitos too our neighbours thought it was us trying to be romantic šŸ˜†

We woke at Byron and done our exercises and had our lovely warm showers.
We took it easy for the day and it rained for most of it so we were stuck in the van.
Then that evening it stopped so we decided to go for a run. I ran 4.74k which was my furthest to date but I think I have done in my hip which is not ideal šŸ™ƒ
We went back to the campsite and stopped at Woolworths on the way and cooked dinner.

We woke and had a banana. I am like an old woman moving around, the issue with my hip is back šŸ™ƒ. Maybe I didn't stretch enough but also it was the closest to 5k I had ever got yesterday so maybe it was just all a bit much. I was raging. So I rang around and all the physios in Byron were booked up and then I managed to get a appointment with an oestopath at 11.50 am as they do dry needling. The only bad thing is it was almost an hours way away so we had to take down the awning to drive. We got there and Jake waited outside and I went in. The girl was called Eliza. She checked everything and was really good. She done dry needling down my thigh and massaged it and then in my hip and massaged there. She also gave me a few exercises to do.
After we drove back to Byron and we went to the campsite. We left the van there rather than driving into the town as parking is dear. Jake got a burrito and I got a toasted cheese sandwich for lunch it was so nice.
We had a walk around the town and sat on the grass near the sea for a while. We walked back to the campsite and read our books. After we got showers and decided to go out for food. We got a take away burger and it was so nice. We walked about around the town after and then went back to the campsite. We sat outside for a bit and then went into bed. We were quite tired but new people moved in all around us and the lads next door were so loud. Jake had to wack on the van to get them to shut up as they were playing music and were so loud. They stopped thank God.

We woke at the campsite. We were a bit tired as we had woke a few times. I went and had a shower. We done our stretches and Jake went for a run but I couldn't go. I put all our clothes on for a wash. We haven't been over wearing the same clothes much as we have a washer and dryer on site. It costs a fiver extra but it's not too much and we have been enjoying wearing fresh clothes especially with our warm showers.
When he came back we tidied up the van a bit and sorted things out. Then we sat and read our books. There is big rain due. I done more of my exercises and Jake done more of his. He went to have a shower and then we made chicken sandwiches for lunch which were lovely. Then the rain started and we got all the bits from lunch cleaned and put away.
The rain, thunder, lightening and hailstones was mad! We were stuck in the van for a good while. It eventually stopped and we went to go look for the night markets which were cancelled last week because of the rain. And of course they werent on again! We were going to go back and cook food but there was so many people out and about we decided to get some wine and pizza and eat at the park beside the beach as there was so many people out and about because of Halloween. We went back to the campsite and drank a bit more. I decided to get my shower and then Jake went out and got some more wine. And we didn't even finish it all before we went to bed. Can't handle the session anymore after being off it for so long we think.

We woke up and we were quite hungover. I think our main issue was that we didn't have water. I don't know we ran out but it was quite a mistake. We had showers. Jake went to the disability shower so he could sit down in it šŸ˜… he was being quite the drama queen all day.
We got ourselves together and set off for the market in the main beach. We stopped in Aldi on the way and got some water.
The market was so big and so warm! We got some gifts at it which was good but we weren't in the best state for it šŸ˜† we ended up spending most of the day there though.
We were going to go home and cook but we decided we were moving to slow so we got a burger for dinner and it was so nice. We went back to the site and took it easy, we had our showers and went to bed early.

  • Byron Bay to Ballina to Brunswick

    2 novembre 2020, Australie ā‹… ā›… 23 °C

We woke at the campsite and it was time to leave our life of luxury and fans and got showers behind.
We packed up the roof, then cooked breakfast, then had our showers and then put on a wash.
We left and drove to another campsite near by as we were thinking that we might need to stay at one so we could prove that we were not in a hotspot area. We rang the Queensland border and they basically advised that they didn't know what we needed to provide to show we had not been in a hot spot area and then it was up to the police on the border check on the day. So that wasn't a great help so we are kind of second guessing it all now.
We drove to Lennox head and walked around and had a coffee and then we drove to Ballina. We stopped in Coles and bought chicken and had lunch there.
We left Ballina and as were driving out the van broke down just at a roundabout. We managed to start it again and then we just got a bit down the road and it stopped again. We ended up leaving it off for over an hour for it to fully cool off. While we were there I folded the clothes we had washed to be put away and Jake phoned mechanics but none were available until next week. After the hour we restarted it and it worked!! We drove down the road and didn't turn it off until bed time almost in case it went again. I was bursting to go to the bathroom so we drove to one and then we went to Brusnwick head. We went for a little walk around the town. We didn't bother have dinner we just shared a banana as we were still quite full from lunch . We drove to the rugby pitch and we stayed there for the night.

  • Brunswick to Coffs Harbour

    3 novembre 2020, Australie ā‹… ā›… 20 °C

We woke at Brunswick at the rugby pitch. I woke bursting for a wee and the toilets beside us were locked. I drove back into town and just as I was about to pull into a spot the van last power again! At least we were in off the road this time though. We waited an hour again for it to cool off and had our yoghurts etc while we were waiting. Then luckily after an hour it started again. We had been ringing mechanics in the area but they were all booked up until 18 Novemeber and dates after so we knew we would have to move. We decided now that it had started to go straight to Coffs Harbour. On our way we passed Byron Bay so we went through it to get a drone shot of the lighthouse but i stayed in the van so we didn't have to turn it off. We were afraid to use the radio as the first time it broke down that was the only thing we had done different to other journeys by using it so we listened to our own headphones for most of the way. We got there and drove straight to a garage called Job Wights as he said he could look at it after 2 pm. He was really sound and said the issue was crank sensor. He said he would do the best price for us that he could as we were backpackers and Jake spoke to him about the timing belt and the water pump when we is in that area he is going to look and see if they need to be done or if we will get away with it. Before we went to the garage we stopped off at a tab and placed a bet for the Melbourne Cup. We bet on Twilight Payment as he was an Irish horse and he won!!!! And we got $520!!!!! We were so happy as it's great timing to fix the van.
After the garage Jake got a burrito so I had my first burrito bowl over here. It was nice. We went to a buddha garden center place which was so cool and had so many nice things. We got some gifts and could have got more as everything was so nice.
Then we went to an Olympic pool as we needed a wash. We swam there for a good while and then got our showers. We went to Coles and got our bits to make prawn pasta and made it just at a playground. A little boy chatted with us for about an hour as he was waiting for his Dad to pick him up.
We got it all cleaned up just before dark and then read in the van for a bit. We were deciding where to park for the night and then decided to go up to Sawtell beach as we knew it would be nice and windy and quiet because even if we get a fine we don't have an address.

We woke up at Sawtell beach. I woke at 5.30 needing to go toilet and there was a fab sunrise. Jake got out the camera and got some photos. We then lay down till 7.30. We woke then and read a bit and caught up in our phones too. The American presidential election is on today. Hopefully Biden will get in and trump will go.
We got into our swim stuff and decided to get into the rock pool. It was so nice and refreshing. There was a man in there swimming so we chatted with him for a while. He was telling us about how the aboriginal people years ago use to burn away the grass of fallen leave around them before they moved on and then that ment fires wouldn't take off as much when there was dry weather and how the government etc are realising that they are smarter than they had given them credit for and should be doing what they done. Also he was saying about how the Midlands of Aus get temps of up to 50 degrees in Summer and one time he stopped in a garage when we was there and there was a 7 year old girl that had never seen rain!!!! Most of the employment is farming too so getting droughts like that dosent do them any favours.
We then had our yoghurts and we read our books just at the van.
We decided to spend the day there then as it was so nice and we could get into the rock pool when we were too warm.
We drove to Coles in Coffs Harbour to get bits for dinner and we cooked it in a park beside it. A little boy was waiting for his Dad to collect him so we stayed with us while we cooked and ate as he was afraid of another boy beating him up. He didn't stop talking šŸ˜… but was very nice.
Then we packed up the van after he was collected and we drove to beside the beach and parked where we stayed when we were here a a few weeks ago. I woke a few times during the night with the heat so I slept the other end of the bed.

We woke up and I was bursting to wee so we drove down to the bathroom and used it. When I came back we just relaxed and we turned on out phones etc. The van was still running and then randomly stopped so we had to rev it loads and do circles around the car park.
We then drove and got a coffee and drove to Coffs Harbour and had a small look around the shops. After that we drove to Sawtell beach and pulled everyrhing out to take nice photos of the van for selling it. I forgot to take a pic of all the stuff but it is mad how much stuff we have fitted into the van.
We just got the last few bits in when it started to lash rain, we were very lucky. It was due to rain for the evening so we said we would book into a campsite so we booked into the big 4 campsite in Sawtell. There was a deal if you stay 3 nights you get the fourth free so we decided to do that.
We got a burrito for lunch as we were so beyond hungry we were nearly seeing stars. Then we went to the shops to get bits for dinner and we drove to the campsite and set up. We got our showers and made dinner.
We read our books for a while after, we were going to watch something on the iPad but we were too tired so we went to sleep instead.

We made lunch and after Jake had a little nap and I tried to train the birds to come close to me but it didn't work great as the turkeys kept trying to be involved.
Then we drove and went to the shopping centre to get dinner. Before we bought the food we got reflexology done and then an idetox where you put your feet in water and the toxins come out. It was definitely a scam and we don think either of our people were trained šŸ˜… but it was something different and we relaxed.

We left the van then walked into Coffs Harbour to pass the time. We went to the shopping centre and got a coffee and read our books for most of the time. We then got a bit peckish so we went and had lunch at one of the cafes outside. Before we left I went to the bathroom and there was kind of a crazy man chanting about Jesus. On my way back from the toilets he came at me and was pushing me down the street and saying things under his breath. At first i thought he was messing but then he wouldn't get off me so I was trying to push him off and kept telling him to get off. It was the weirdest thing and gave me such a fright. I could see Jake aswell but he was on the phone to the mechanic with his back to me. Eventually he stopped and I ran over to Jake to tell him. He was probably off his head and a bit crazy but it have me such a fright. Then Jake went to meet the man to collect the van off him and I waited at the shopping centre because we couldn't all fit in the van. When he came back we went down to the sea and Jake got in and I put my legs in. We went back up and got our showers, had our banana and packed up the van.
The bites that I got yesterday have got bigger so we rang around some doctors to see could we get an appointment. Everywhere was booked up but we managed to get one just outside Port Macquarie and we were planning on going there anyway so it worked out ok. I was a bit delayed at my appointment.
The doctor said it was an allergic reaction to the bites so she gave me steroids and a cream. After I was done there I went to a pathology clinic and got my bloods checked too.
We then made dinner and then we drove by a river where we saw dolphins so we stopped an watched them for a while. We drove into Port Macquarie to stay there for the night.

So when we woke we were pretty tired. I moved the van down to a bathroom and a little park.
    We done our stretches.
Then we drove to Shelleys beach and we got in the water. It was so nice and refreshing. We got a coffee after and we were going to lie on the beach there but we decided to move as the reception was so bad.

Then we got prawns and bread and had that for dinner as we were not starving. It ended up being really filling. We cleaned up and stayed there for a while to watch the sunset. We then treated ourselves to a mc flurry and then drove to where we parked last night sleep.

  • Nelsons Bay to Newcastle

    12 novembre 2020, Australie ā‹… ā›… 27 °C

We woke at Nelsons Bay. We done our stretching then Aoife and Rachel called me to fill me in on how Rachel got on with the medium.
After we got in the sea for a quick swim. We dried off then decided to get eggs in a restaurant as our van life is coming to an end. Then we drove to Newcastle and drove to the Bogey hole as suggested by Pat. We got some drone fottage and then we were going to drive to the shops as it was quite overcast but we decided to get the van washed first so we drove to a place that could do it.
We then drove to Westfield in Newcastle and had a look around for the evening and we both bought new books.
We then drove to the area near the wharf where we parked when we were here the last time and slept there for the night. There was boy racers going around which was not ideal but they eventually stopped.
