Patty arrived after a drive into a zero visibility snowstorm outside Spokane. Stayed with Patty's friend Judy and her cute dog Yoda. Judy made loaded baked potatoes and stewed rhubarb. Snow and icy roads on the way out of town.

Pacifica

Arrived 7pm. Inn at Rockaway. Nice walk along the beach. Liz, Glenn and we had a nice visit. Walked to the 4H farm. Very impressed with Liz's knowledge and involvement with the farm. Lunch at High Tide Cafe = shawarma tacos. Reuben showed us some of his pottery work. Really cool.
Went to High Tide again for breakfast on St. Patrick's day. Patty had corned beef hash.
Odometer from Pacifica; 41,507
Stopped in Gilroy, local hot sauces (bonus 8 avocados for $1). Also tried the garlic ice cream. Thumbs down.Read more

Arrived John's house 5:30pm. Went to fish fry at St. Cyprian's. Hung out the next day at John's. Evelyn was away visiting Emily in D.C. Bacon grease for Clifford, corned beef dinner at St. C and watched A Man Called Otto.

On the road to Odessa TX and Brinkley AR

Left AZ for New York. Odometer 42,850. Lunch in El Paso, good tacos and elite at Cabo Jim's (aka Bikini Jim's). Stopped in Odessa, the Permian Basin--oil country. Fairly desolate landscape. Drove to Brinkley for the night. Waffle House breakfast, then continued on through Memphis. Lunch and Jiffy Lube in Nashville. Major traffic backup in Knoxville. 9:15pm arrive Roanoke, VA.Read more

Blue Ridge Pwy/Shenandoah National Park

We had been making good time on our route, so we took an entire day to meander the Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenandoah National Park. Fantastic scenery. We stopped in Buena Vista for groceries and a swim for Jessie at Chessie Trail. We stopped for a picnic lunch ...brrr. Jessie discovered a whole new world of smells. Took scenic route to Chambersburg PA. Stayed at Tru hotel by Hilton. New, very nice.Read more

Nice drive into Brooklyn, then very difficult in town getting to Tim and EJ's place right in the heart of Brooklyn. They're almost under the Brooklyn Bridge. Tim helped Patty find a parking spot for the weekend, and she Uber'd back and forth to hotel. Emily arrived late that night from DC.
It rained on Saturday 4/1. Lost umbrella on walk. Met Katy at an amazingly big and busy playground and then on to Hibachi dinner to celebrate Tim's birthday. Sunday rainy and cold, went to dog park and pizza dinner at home. Monday walked with Katy, Trevor, Tas and Thea to a bagel shop in DUMBO (down under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass). Jessie upset by the noise and commotion. Ate near the carousel.Read more

Katy and Trevor's home

Tuesday 4/4 explored the creek with with Jessie and kids. Very tired all day.
Wednesday continued to be tired, unable to do much. Made spinach gnocchi.
Thursday still weak. 80 degrees. Worked on dad's book and made Benne Wafers. Katy made taco dinner.
Friday, cooler outside, feeling better. Played outside with Jessie, cribbage with Patty and watched movie trailers with kids. Pasta dinner on porch.
Saturday nice and sunny but cool. Pancakes with Oat sausage for breakfast. Spent time working with Emily on piano chords. Camp fire in backyard. Cooked chicken sausage. Orzo salad and shrimp for dinner.Read more
