Sea daze and rock and roll

    September 14, 2023 ⋅ 🌬 9 °C

Lots to do on the Silver Muse on a sea day on this itinerary. There are classes for crafty people, dancing people, drinking people and thinking people and we are at least 3 of the four. Royce and I make bracelets today, we did line dancing last sea day, Mike and Kay Chee enjoy the cocktail making class and we listen to the port talks and history of the places we are traveling too. The entertainment is pretty good too thanks to our wonderful piano man Mark Ferris. We did experience a really awful comedian after a very nice dinner at Indochine. They change the menu every four days and I think I preferred the first menu but the lobster pad Thai was very yummy although not a pad Thai by any stretch of the imagination. And how can you be disappointed by lobster! Royce has succumbed to the really big seas and made it to the dinner table but left to go to bed. We did Bingo and Trivia and he started to look a bit woozy 🥴. I hope he’ll be ok today. He changed over his patch and maybe that was the problem. There is a lot of motion and you can really feel the difference in a smaller ship. It will be interesting when we hit the Bering Sea!Read more

    Leaving Alaska

    September 15, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 8 °C

So Royce has recovered wonderfully after leaving the dinner table abruptly last night amid a lot of motion on the ocean, calling the doctor and given something stronger than his patch. He has had a great nights sleep and we were up early snd on the first shuttle to Dutch Harbour. Wow what a remote and beautiful place. We see foxes and sea otters and the Aleutian Museum which is amazing. A bit of walking and back to ship for pizza and rose wine. Very relieved he is well. It was very rough and rocky even for me.
The sail away party is joined by a huge pod of whales who farewell us with some great tail views as they dive into the Alaskan waters with dramatic scenery SS a backdrop- breathtaking! Royce is recovered enough to join in jewelry making class and we make butterfly earrings that look pretty good - it’s fun and lovely that Kay Chee is with us as well. To trivia and we come 4th again. We are so close but yet so far!
Caviar and Prosecco in the room served by Francesco out butler - what a treat. Pre dinner drinks with Mike and Kay chee in Dolce Vita and they are training everyone bar person on the ship in the making of Pisco Sour and Hot buttered rum, they are hilarious. Dinner in the Silver Note is a bit rushed as we need to get to the theatre for the big show of our favorite piano man Mark Ferris. It’s a great audio visual extravaganza highlighting - the love boat , lots of dads songs and a few concert party memories as well. I shed a few tears and it’s a great experience. We are the cheer squad in the front row and we continue up to the panorama lounge for more dancing and. Drinks. Mike and Kay Chee light up the dance floor and holiday Royce is back in action (minus alcohol). We leave the young ones ( Mike and Kay Chee) to continue partying and we hit the hay at midnightish. It’s a great day.

    September 17, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

The first of 5 sea days as we cross the Bering Sea and the the Oacific Ocean to Japan. We gain sleep time which is nice and up for the 9am port talk and Japanese culture information before a late breakfast at La Terazza at the back of the ship. It’s sunny and the water is a beautiful blue and relatively calm. Royce is taking things easy food and alcohol wise. We head for our art collage class and make another masterpiece. There is plenty to do onboard. Lunch is a special Alaskan delights buffet in Dolce Vita with seafood chowder, soft shell crab burgers, crab cakes and lots of salads. The band is entertaining us with a sing a long and it’s a great event. Afternoon art class - pointillism - dot drawing is fun followed by a bit of a rest and then trivia. It’s formal night and we dress up to meet the captain followed by dinner in Atlantide which is very nice and great service. Dungeness crab and scallop and enoki soup - a great menu. It’s off to see our favorite piano man and we toddle to bed at midnight.
Kay Chee and Mike are enjoying the Silversea experience and particularly enjoy the rhythm of sea days.

Dinner at Kaiseki with Kay Chee and Mike and he enjoys the food which is great. Early night and hope for a better day tomorrow. I attend lots of activities- printmaking, photo editing and art class. There is plenty to keep you busy and content ( if you are not seasick). The staff have been fantastic very helpful and concerned. Sea daaaaze

    September 20, 2023, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

So the days are rolling into one long sea day with Royce definitely improved after an injection from the doctor. He is eating again and we enjoyed a lovely meal in Atlantide last night with our new friends Mitch and Caryn from Seattle. I have been feeling not fantastic - very tired. So some rest is on order to get ready for the final leg of the cruise in Japan. Mike and Kay Chee braved the outdoors last night with pizza on the deck and we caught up with Mike at the piano bar. It’s a much calmer day today and clearer than the foggy day yesterday. We visited the bridge yesterday and the Captain was very generous with his time and talked with us for over an hour.
We are attending a special lunch today in Indochine for honoured Venetian guests so we are looking forward to that!
The Venetian lounge is packed for the port lecture with everyone keen to get off the ship!!
The lunch was spectacular so much seafood, caviar all spectacularly presented. The cocktail battle was fun so I had to try the winning cocktail after lunch!

    Muroran

    September 22, 2023 in Japan ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

It’s a beautiful sunny warm day and we sail under the bright sunshine and a bridge to dock in Muroran Hokkaido. Our excursion is fabulous with a Ninja show which is drought with tension and ninjas jumping from the rafters and out of boxes. The geisha and shogun show is all the more fun because Eldert our new Dutch friend is chosen to be the Shogun King and he does a mighty job and is consequently famous as we are walking through the park. I play out my childhood samurai fantasies with ninja star throwing and we taste takoyaki and some sticky sweets. The hell valley visit is spectacular and we enjoy a stroll through town after icecream from the vending machines which are amazing. Back to the ship!Read more

    Kushiro

    September 23, 2023 in Japan ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Everyone is feeling good and had a fabulous day in Kushiro. Walk to marshlands, looking at the giant cranes and lunch in the fish market where we buy a bowl of rice and add the fresh fish toppings. We enjoy our lunch with Mike and Kay Chee who are on another bus. We stop at the museum and the fisherman’s wharf where we see the worlds cruelest claw machine where you can win a live crab. There is one in the tank and it’s so cruel!! Pizza and beer on board and the captains cocktail party with Mike and Kay Chee after the most moving sail away complete with drummers and townspeople waving us off. Not many ships visit this port so we were a novelty. A lovely dinner in Silver Note followed by piano man fun in Dolce Vita lounge and again I am a tambourine and dancing champion. All my cruise dreams are coming true!Read more

    To Kyoto

    September 25, 2023 in Japan ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

We farewell the Silver Muse with an easy disembarkation and a smooth pick up from Blacklane to Yokohama Shinkansen Station. We exchange our vouchers for a 7 day rail pass in Green car class which has a bit more leg room. It’s a lengthy process as there is a queue and it takes our attendant a long time to process the passes and book our first train ticket. Straight to the platform for a short wait for the Shinkansen 🚅 and we manage our luggage and onto the train. We are on the Mt Fuji side and get great views of the top of Fiji and the shrouding mists. We have bought bento boxes and beer at the station and enjoy a snack on the train. The green car has plenty of room and comfy seats. We can’t get the big bag up above but manage to have it near us. All good.Read more
