      Petite étape à Buenos Aires avant l’arrivée d’Ivan et Muriel. On avait réservé un super Airbnb pour l’anniversaire de Lisa histoire de passer quelques jours dans un endroit bien sympa au cœur de Buenos Aires. On en a profité pour se balader un peu, se cuisiner des bons petits plats et on a été chanceux car on est tombé le week-end du carnaval.Read more

      Buenos Aires - Recoleta

      Arrived back in Buenos Aires, public bus to the hostel and wander around the city for a couple hours in the evening. Lots of people around and things happening. Walked past Teatro Colon, the big famous opera house, and a tango show next to it. Big obelisk that every city seems to have for some reason. Amazing empanadas here that cost 160 pesos (about 30 cents USD)! So good and cheap.

      Next morning walking tour of Recoleta and the surrounding neighbourhood.
      Facts:
      - Argentina was one of the richest countries in the world in the end of the 19th century because of beef exports (Pampas region excellent for agriculture)
      - 100% inflation right now
      - Buenos Aires nice areas mostly French style city planning and architecture, was popular when the city grew
      - Argentina independence/reorganisation after chaos in Spanish empire 1810,
      - General San Martin national hero, conquered Lima from Argentina, liberated Chile from Spanish. Also hero in Chile and Peru! Similar to Simon Bolivar in Colombia/Ecuador/Bolivia
      - after independence civil war in Argentina for 70 years
      - Avenida 9 Julio is the widest street in the world (120 metres)
      - falklands war is an weird bit of history and interesting to think about how to decide who should control different territories based on all the factors

      Then a little wander alone through some parks, and a weird mist/dog/smoke/smog all around. Decided to tour Recoleta Cemetery in the afternoon, a big and beautiful cemetery full of mausoleums of rich/famous people.
      Cemetery facts:
      - a grave of politician Carril and his wife, who hated each other. Then he died first and she designed the grave so that when she died they would have statues facing away from each other 😂
      - first president after the dictatorship ended in 1983
      - Evita (Eva Perón) grave was pretty plain. She was very popular wife of president (think Princess Diana), and died young. Then her body was stolen and hidden in someone’s office for years and then brought to Italy and buried without telling anyone. Some people kidnapped another politician to make him tell them where her body was. 24 years after her death, she was finally buried in Recoleta cemetery.
      - bizarre number of abandoned graves falling apart/coffins kind of half open. Really creepy and strange. They are privately owned so the managers can’t really do anything about it.      Read more

      Floreria Atlantico

      Nach Buenos Aires sind es knapp 2 1/2 Stunden mit dem Speedboat. Das Hotel (dazu mehr auf 14280.de die nächsten Tage) hat seine besten Jahrzehnte gesehen. An der Rezeption erhielten wir den Tipp für eine Bar.
      Sensationell! Wir klopfen an der Tür eines Blumengeschäfts. Von Bar keine Spur, aber es gibt ja die Tūr zur Kühlung…. Wie in alten Spielfilmen über die Zeit der Prohibition, geht es nicht in die Kühlkammer sondern über eine Stahltreppe in den Keller, in die Bar. Die Floreria Atlantico muss den internationalen Vergleich nicht scheuen. Cocktails und Drinks vom Feinsten sowie gutes Essen.
      Die extreme Inflation Argentiniens begünstigt uns, so dass 7 Drinks, 3 Vorspeisen und ein Hauptgericht mit nur 72,00 € zu buche schlagen. Wir kommen wieder 😇😋      Read more

      Stadtrundfahrt Buenos Aires

      Nachdem für den Vormittag Regen gemeldet wurde, haben wir uns ein Hop-in Hop-Off Bus-Ticket gleich noch am Abend über GetYourGuide besorgt, man will ja die Schweizer Kollegen hier auch mitkommen lassen.
      Nach dem Frühstück mussten wir noch zu dem Ticket-Laden, ging aber alles unkompliziert. Dann ging es auch schon los, gelber Doppeldecker Bus, oben nur mit Dach, ohne Fenster. Der Regen stellte sich dann auch pünktlich 10 Minuten nach Abfahrt ein.
      Buenos Aires liegt ja am Rio de la Plata, einem Fluss, der erst in einigen hundert Kilometer ins Meer fliest. Durch die ganzen Sedimente sieht das Wasser auch nicht so nett aus. 13 Millionen Leute wohnen in der Metropolregion. Das kommt einen nicht so vor.
      Mit dem Bus sind wir an diversen historischen Gebäuden vorbeigefahren, wobei die Stadt, 1530 gegründet, für unsere Verhältnisse jung ist. Der Aufbau der Stadt ist an sich schon sehr schön. Viele breite Straßen, die meisten mit Bäumen. Parks gibt es an jeder Ecke.
      An den beiden Fußballstadien der bekannten Clubs Boca Juniors und Riverplate sind wir auch vorbeigekommen.
      Bis 13:00 hatten wir die 3 Runden erledigt und sind mit dem Taxi zu unserem Restaurant gefahren.

      Die Luft ist ganz gut in der Stadt. Es gibt doch immer viel Wind von dem nahe gelegene. Fluss, der ja auch über 200km breit ist!

      Little Paris

      Our last breakfast in BA took us into the French district of this Latin American city - Recoleta. We don't need much convincing to have bakery, but when it's french bakery done this good, how could we deny ourselves.

      Do's Escudos.

      Cafe Cortado, which is a 50/50 split of coffee and milk. Medialunas which is Argentinian version of a coissant. And it's a rule of Alex's that if waffles are on the menu, then they must be purchased, especially when they are covered in dulce de leche.      Read more

      Back in Buenos Aires

      March 11 in Argentina ⋅ 🌩️ 25 °C

      Staying overnight at the Emperador in Buenos Aires this time. The warning on the coach from the airport was “if you want to go out for a walk turn left out of the hotel. Don’t turn right it is too dangerous.” We had no problems checking in, but a couple and another woman who we had met on the cruise did, as they were unable to offer credit cards. The lady had somehow managed to get her card blocked whilst away and the couple only had a debit card, we did offer to assist but fortunately Hurtigruiten were able to negotiate with the hotel to get them their rooms. Restaurant was closed so we had a bar meal and then went out for a brief way in the evening, turning left as advised. Found a fairly exclusive shopping arcade which we walked around, seeing a few people spending money, a contrast to the couple of people we saw scavenging in the bins on the way back to the hotel.
      Coach back to the airport for the flight home at 09:15 tomorrow.      Read more

      Day 2. In Buenos Aires

      Well, waking up early seems to be a habit. I woke up at 4:30 BA time and just stayed up. Flight was comfortable, ontime and uneventful. However, did get to see the sun rise over the Andes.

      Took about an hour to get through customs but my driver was waiting, so it was on to the Alvear Art hotel. Very nice place.

      Room wasn’t ready so I hit the showers at the spa and voila, the room was ready by the time I finished. Got settled in and went to Florida street. Several people on the plane told me it was the best place to exchange money. Got about twice the listed rate. Walked around for a bit and had a nice lunch on Florida. It was really good except it couldn’t figure out the math they were using to compute my bill. Seemed to really favor the house. Thank God I’m paying in pesos.

      BA is a really attractive city. Looks more European than most Latin American Cities I've seen. (Small list)

      Guns and Goodbyes☀️

      Heute wollten wir das Waffenmuseum Besuchen. Ich musste das Hostel heute leider wechseln, da es keinen Platz mehr hatte. Dani begleitete mich und wir trafen Julian und Lars vor dem Museum. Da Raluca leider zu spät ankam, konnte Julian nicht mitkommen. Julian fliegt heute nach Columbien🔥. Wir verabschiedeten uns von ihm🥹. Lars, Dani, Raluca und ich gingen ins Museum. Es war wirklich faszinierend, da Waffen auch aus Europa vom 19. JH. da waren. Italien, Frankreich, Deutschland, England, Ungarn etc. Die Schweiz ist ja neutral, deswegen gabs keine da😂. Danach schlenderten wir weiter durch die Gegend und fanden ein kleines Restaurant. Es sah von Aussen ein wenig schäbig aus, doch das Essen war der Wahnsinn.!!😍 Wir gingen noch in eine Shoppingmall und danach fing es an zu regnen. Heute nahm ich das erste Mal die Metro zurück zum Hostel. Puuh.. es war soooo überfüllt und man hatte fast keinen Platz. Meine Bauchtasche und mein Handy fest in den Händen stand ich nun da und wartete auf meine Haltestelle. Danach noch alleine 10min gehen und zaack war ich im Hostel. Ich ass zu Abend und begab mich dann in mein Zimmer.Read more

      Ein erster Spaziergang durch die Stadt

      Im weitläufigen Regente Palace Hotel waren wir für den Check in noch etwas zu früh dran. Kaum angekommen warfen wir uns also in luftigere Kleidung und machten uns auf den Weg ins nahegelehene Zentrum von Buenos Aires, um erstmal an der Aufgabe an Bargeld zu kommen nahezu zu scheitern.. Kaum zu glauben, aber ATMs waren schwer zu finden und gegen eine Gebühr von 10€ konnte man sage und schreibe 35€ abheben 🙈. Wer sucht der findet und somit wurden es immerhin noch 100€ pro Abbuchung 🎉😅.
      Urlaubsfeeling kam dann endlich mit ein paar Empanadas im Sonnenschein des St. Martin Parks bei einer kleinen Siesta auf. Der Wechsel vom deutschen Winter in den Hochsommer Argentiniens, das dürfte es öfters geben ;).
      Anschließend wollten wir noch ins historische Zentrum laufen, da passierte es mitten am Weg: allsamt wurden wir von Taubendurchfall erwischt 🙈.. Das Drama des Tages aka der argentinische Willkommensgruß? Zusammen mit der Hilfe einer Einheimischen versuchen wir los zu werden was ging, nichtsdestotrotz war die daraufhin schnell im Hotel folgende Dusche die Nötigste seit Langem 😅.. Freu ich mich auf den Tag, an dem ich über diese Geschichte lachen kann 🙆‍♀️      Read more

      Wenn zu Hause Winter ist, Hierzulande eigentlich Herbst, nur mit sommerlichen Temperaturen ☀️ Ich lobe mir meine Spanischkenntnisse, denn die englischen Walking-Touren platzten aus allen Nähten. So lief ich den ganzen Tag durch diese tolle Stadt, die sich aber so gar nicht nach Lateinamerika anfühlt. Madrid, Barcelona, Paris schon eher, nur mit Dulce de leche, Tango und Evita.Read more
