    The Nut, Stanley

    January 1 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

This is the plug of an extinct volcano and we are 143m from the ground!! A plug is formed when the magma hardens in the volcanic vent and over time the outside of the volcano erodes and the plug is left.

Now I have walked around on two plugs, the first being Edinburgh Castle as the Castle was also built on one!!

    Stanley and Smithton

    January 1 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Walking back to the van this morning heard a russle in the underbrush.  Thought it would just be a lizard.  Was a... pademelon...I think...might have been a wallaby.  Managed to get Suzie to get some photos as I didn't have my phone on me. Super cute, and not bothered by our presents at all

Long drive to The Nut at Stanley.  Caught the chair lift up.  Beautiful scenery.  Very windy. Learnt about the moonbirds and a little about the Aboriginal people of the area.  (And the terrible things the settlers did to them.) Fuck the Europeans were horrible.

Then the drive to Smithton where we're camped tonight.  Lovely spot on the river.  A family of ducks came to visit us at the van.  Begging for food I think. Bought homemade blackberry jam from the caravan reception. One for us...one for Mum and Dad.

    Stanley - The Nut

    February 24 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

The Nut - a kind of table mountain surrounded by the sea with lots of wildlife on it. Could it be any better? Probably not! That was a fun hike!

The Nut (Die Nuss) ein Berg mit einem großen Plateau und vielen Tieren umgebeben vom Meer. Es könnte kaum besser sein. Eine sehr schöne Wanderung!Read more

    An der Nordküste

    January 12 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

    Stanley

    March 12 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Yesterday we took a drive around Stanley from our camp at Tall Timbers. Stanley is a beautiful old fishing/shipping town where the houses have been restored to their original beauty. The guys conquered the climb up,around and back down The Nut while us "sensible" chick's took the chair lift up and back....we did do the 2klms walk around the top though!Read more

    Smithton

    March 12 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Todays adventures took us along the west coast to view more rugged coastline! 1st stop was Woolnorth .....heaps of dairies and lush green pastures. Chinese owned Woolnorth dairy is the biggest dairy in Australia but not accessible to the public unless you take a tour ...no thanks! On then to Marrawah for morning tea and then to Arthur River (where lots of logs were washed ashore.) Edge of the World was a beautiful spot! Next on to Couta Rocks ...a small fisherman's village overlooking the ocean! We then travelled east towards the Tarkine Forest where we enjoyed our picnic lunch before heading back north towards Smithton passing through more dairies around Edith Creek.Read more

Everyday here is different with so much to see and do! The Tarkine Drive took us to Trowutta Arch, Tayatea Bridge, past Milkshake Hills ,Sink-hole,Lake Chisholm,Rapid River,Julius River on to Sumac Lookout and home through Edith Creek and Irishtown...a very busy day but just wonderful. Tomorrow we move on to Waratah!Read more

    The Nut

    December 9, 2016 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C
