    Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

    September 24, 2017 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 66 °F

Today we visited Prince Edward Island (PEI) which is the smallest Canadian province. We docked in Charlottetown, which is the birthplace of modern Canada. It is PEI’s oldest and largest city.
We spoke to the local representative on board, got a map and were on our way. We walked through historic Charlottetown following the “Fathers of Confederation” route (a painted line on the sidewalk). We viewed wonderful examples of Victorian architecture, quaint boutiques and Province House (the provincial legislature since 1847).Read more

    PEI's traffic lights

    September 7, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Something interesting I noticed here... is that their traffic lights are shaped differently.

Green is round, like we're used to. Yellow is a triangle and Red is square. I googled it and if seems to be that way to help people who are color blind.
Not a bad idea I suppose.

2 stops: The Chip Shack & Cows

    September 7, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

For dinner we stopped on a floating dock at the Wharf to eat at the famous Chip Shack. I had the lobster poutine and Matt had the pulled pork poutine. Wow. What a huge mound of poutine on those plates!
We somehow managed to save some room for ice cream at Cows, which was practically next door. I had an ice cream called "Wowie Cowie" which was described as : Vanilla ice cream, English toffee marble, chocolate flakes, and Moo Crunch. Or was really good. I'd have it again in a heartbeat. Matt had an ice cream called Apple Crisp... which is pretty self explanatory. We ate our ice creams while browsing the souvenir shops on the Wharf.Read more

    Eden Hall Bed and Breakfast

    September 7, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Our room was essentially in the attic.. lol. But it was cute and air conditioned and we had a private bathroom we didn't have to share. I found it quirky and unique and fun to stay in a place like this and would totally do it again.

    Charlottetown, Kanada

    June 16, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Read more

    Island Hopping

    November 13, 2017 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 3 °C

Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day! Rugged up we headed down to the Freight Shed, where we had the great meal last night, to have a great breakfast this morning. Not open. Back up to the Main Street. None of the small handful of cafes that were supposedly open were! We had a lovely walk along the lake in the crisp morning air so not all was lost.
Plan B - breakfast at Tim Horton’s, the only option, then hit the road. Today’s journey took us along the Sunrise Trail to Pictou where we had a very late lunch/early dinner before getting the ferry across to PEI (Prince Edward Island).
The Sunrise Trail travels more coastline. This coastline is lined with farmlands - beautiful farmhouses right on the coast with stunning views in all directions.
The 75 minute ferry crossing had us arrive in Wood Islands after 6pm with a further 45 minute drive to Charlottetown.

    A Sleety Day in Charlottetown

    November 14, 2017 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 3 °C

3º was the maximum today with a feels like of -2. Needless to say we were rugged right up in jumpers, big jackets scarf for me, buff for Neil and gloves for our walk around Charlottetown. We followed the historical walk, the unbroken red line that took us around the town down to the harbour and through the old neighbourhoods. Before the end of the walk it was snowing, or sleeting or sprinkling ice or all of the above.
We dined at Terre Rouge - lentil and beetroot burgers for both of us. We had our choice of tables as we were the only punters. We were there late in the afternoon but I doubt that they are ever rushed off their feet during the down season. Or perhaps today everyone was hiding inside out of the wind and sleet. Only the tourists were out walking in it.
We have extended our stay another two nights after tonight as Charlottetown is basically in the middle of the island and we can strike out from here for the next two days.
